(206) Thingvellir, 🇮🇸 Just a few more days before my trip to NYC. To tide my excitement over, been browsing through my Iceland (and Nordic) travels in 2016 and saw how each trip for the past few years ended up with us in winter somewhere. The reason for this is that we usually fly out during the Holy Week here in the Philippines, which falls usually anywhere from late March to late April, and for most of the countries out West, this is wintertime for them. (205) Thingvellir, 🇮🇸 August is my birthday month! Happy birthday to me! Every year during this month, I contain myself in a happiness bubble that nothing can penetrate (not even the sharp rocks off the surface of this landscape, just to make this photo relevant 😂). I walk every day of August draped in a curtain of rainbows and glitter— hexproof, curseproof, negativity-proof. • It’s not yet my birthday, but each year during this month, I take a pause to think of the good things that have come my way, as well as the not-so-good ones and how I’ve learned from them. All in all, I feel grateful— there have been many blessings, traveling just one of them. (204) Thingvellir, 🇮🇸 Iceland is one of the most expensive countries to visit in the world— even more expensive than NYC according to a few of the websites I’ve read. But you know what? It was worth every centavo/peso of hard-earned money I placed into the trip. I’m not a budget traveler by any means, so I tend to spend for comfort and convenience, and that contributed to the cost, but hey, who knows when I’ll be able to visit Iceland again, right? (201) Vik, 🇮🇸 We’ve been having a lot of rain here in the tropics. It really is monsoon season! If I’m not mistaken, we’ve had three typhoons or tropical depressions visiting us the past few weeks, and it seems there’s bound to be a few more for the next days! 😞🙂 • If those emojis confuse you, the rain is something I both hate and love at the same time. At its best, the rain is soothing, comforting, the raindrops a calming tap-tap-tap on the ground and the glass windows. There is a certain contentment at the thought of being saddled in blankets and a cup of hot chocolate in hand, or at the thought of cuddling with someone while in bed. • All that is well and good... if you’re comfortably inside your home or in a staycation somewhere. If you’re required to go to work or in the middle of a trip, then rains are just an awful setback to dreams of sunshine and good photography lighting (lol). (200) Vik, 🇮🇸 In 2016, @christetto, @thelostboylloyd and I decided to embark on a Nordic adventure spanning 5 countries: The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland. Of all the countries we went to, Iceland has got to be the most unique of all of them. It does live up to its monicker of Land of Fire and Ice, with jaw-dropping landscapes caused by volcanic activity juxtaposed against the mesmerizing views of glaciers and ice. • In other exciting news: 200th post! It was just over a year ago that I started to embark on this brand new adventure, and I’m glad I did. I have been exposed to a lot of talent here in IG, met a lot of warm and wonderful people both here and abroad, and witnessed a lot of the beauty the world has to offer. (199) Reykjavik, 🇮🇸 The past few weeks have been crazy and things are starting to be put into motion— I’m so excited about a lot of things and busy about a lot of things that I just haven’t had time to just keep still. It’s an amazing feeling though so no complaints from me here. • So it’s still a month from now but as I initially put in my Stories, I’ll be heading to US and Canada next month! It’s going to be a three-week leave (perhaps my longest off work ever) so we might be going to a few places. Right now, plans are to visit New York, Boston, Seattle, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and then Montreal and Toronto after. First time in North America so I’m psyched! • I’ll also be doing my last set of requirements for Fellowship under the Society of Actuaries next month in Bellevue, so that’s another milestone reached. Finally, after 14 years of studying both local and international exams, time to break free! #actuary #actuarylife • There are a few other things in store for this North America trip. The dance provided her a space for solemn meditation, a channel within which she can learn to let go. The dance granted her peace. • This instance was different from the others: it was a different kind of heartbreak, a different kind of parting, a different kind of loss. It was irreparable, irreversible. But she would deal with it the same way, though with more rigor and intent. As the sun bled behind her, she pointed her toes to the ground, raised her arms, and twirled. (195) Batanes, 🇵🇭 Had a bit of an argument today with @thelostboylloyd regarding some future travel plans for July, and it just sort of proved the point that I’m really hard to please when it comes to traveling. Weird, given that I do it often. • One, I didn’t want to go on a trip that was too close to our quarterend submissions at work. Bulk of the work should have been done by that time already, but you know... just in case I was needed. • Two, I didn’t want to go on a trip that was too close to another trip, especially one that involved me being off-work for 3 weeks. The trip was mostly going to fall on a weekend, but you know... just in case I was needed. • Three, I didn’t want to go on a trip that involved too many flights, especially if it was just a short trip. 4 flights in 4 days didn’t seem too appealing given my flight anxiety and all. Granted it was just a couple of 2-hr flights, but you know... • After hearing “I’m trying to make the schedule work, you know”... yeah, it hit me pretty hard. I AM a picky traveler. (194) Batanes, 🇵🇭 Been busy the past few days, working weekends and leaving past midnight during workdays, busting my ass to earn my keep. I have to finance my escapes, you know, and the only way to do that is to not-escape first. 😝 Good thing I love my job and my profession that this just feels like an extension of my passions! • My life is a balance between two worlds: one world is the world I “not-escape” in, my life as an actuary. Believe it or not, I do work within the confines of a cubicle, a 9-to-5 (or more accurately, 12-to-10++) job that I positively enjoy. There is fulfillment in having a career that uplifts me and affirms my worth, with the bonus that I get to live a little in luxury with money to finance my vices (i.e. travel). • The other world is the world I escape to: the rest of the world as we know it. The subject of this Instagram, the immersion in cultures, the fascination for landscapes and cityscapes and the people that reside therein.
