CAS PROJECT

On November 28th 2018 a team comprised of my classmates and me prepared and held a "festival" of sorts at our school gymnasium. The festival, Autumn Fest, aimed to raise funds for the refugees locked at the Poland-Ukraine border. The Festival offered live performances from the students and out-of-school artists, a bakesale and a sale of books and vintage clothing. It took many days to organise that, and the day-of was still spent (from 9am to 17pm) on decorating and conducting rehearsals. Apart from taking part in organising and decorating, I also performed on stage. The day was fruitful, many people showed up (although not as much as was expected) and we were able to raise over 2000zl. It was not only a success in the contexts of organisation and results, but also made for a great memory. I would say that this was the most pleasant school-related team activity I have ever taken part in.

FINAL CAS REFLECTION

The CAS programme encouraged me to consciously and actively engage into “out-of-school” activities and, perhaps most importantly, required me to keep track of my progress and personal growth. When starting my CAS blog, my creative activities comprised mainly of drawing, sports activities of dancing, and service focused around Habitat for Humanity. While the latter remained my main form of service, the creative activities now additionally encompass singing and piano lessons, while sports-wise I have committed to exercising my diaphragm, yoga, taking long walks on a regular basis, sometimes swimming. The regularity with which I approached these activities, as well as the consequent progress I made, can be largely accredited to the fact that I had a responsibility in the form of keeping the CAS blog.

One of the most valuable outcomes of the CAS programme to me was the CAS project. Our CAS project, “Autumn Fest” was a one-day fund-raising “festival”. We organized performances by students both from and out of our school, and sold books, vintage clothing and baked goods for a charitable cause, which required much teamwork and planning, and turned out great. It was a great evening, we were able to raise a significant sum, and could see a festival organized by ourselves actually succeed. It was the best moment of my entire CAS experience.

Another greatly significant part of the experience was participating in Habitat for Humanity. Being a member allowed me to contribute to causes beneficial for a greater community, as well as to learn about communities and crises around the world, widening my understanding of the surrounding world. My team-working abilities and engagement in social incentives greatly developed through the participation in the HFHI.

One of the most important outcomes to me was also being consistently reminded that during times of tension, it is important not to completely sacrifice health and out-of-school activities for the sake of studying. I think that, although sometimes it seemed unnecessary, the process of actively searching for new extracurricular activities and documenting my progress within those areas proved to encourage a steady, conscious personal development, both within the academic and non-academic fields. Therefore, I greatly appreciate the CAS experience.

A Habitat for Humanity meeting, during which my friends gave away the “coordinator” role to the students from IB1, since our graduation is nearing. It was a short meeting other than that.

I have permanently integrated yoga into my exercises set – given the positive results of the previous experiment.

We had a workshop-like meeting, conducted by two ladies from the “upper” HfH environment. I could not stay for the entirety of it, but during the time for which I did stay, it was fun.

Studniówka – danced from evening till dawn. If that doesn’t count as exercise, I don’t know what does.

CREATIVITY

Another singing lesson! This time, we’re learning a more funky song, Bez Przerwy Śmieję Się, to work on my on-stage acting (something I find rather hard). My teachers want me to unwind while performing, therefore are encouraging me to work on goofy songs and singing in an exaggerated manner. This is the song (and a selfie):

Still doing diaphragm exercises + yoga. I try to repeat them a few times every day. It is definitely helpful!
