i saw a post bringing up kevin only caring abt exy after seth’s death (not in a bad light just in a mentioning it as a thing that happened/a thing abt kevin), but im a bit irked (maybe not the right word choice but whatever), bc i think that’s a trauma response to him being exposed to death so he has to compartmentalize w it and focus on what’s always mattered more than death in the nest which is exy, and i think more ppl need to take into acc kevin’s past & trauma when thinking abt his actions

cuz like 1. he literally saw someone be brutally murdered & dismemebered(iirc? i may be wrong on the dismemberment) by neil’s father DURING THE MIDDLE OF EXY PRACTICE, like he, riko, & neil all get taken out from exy practice for neil’s father to kill skmeone in front of them, also when they are like 9-10, obviously that’s fucking traumatizing (sidenote: and i rlly hope it’s brought up more in kevin’s books bc i feel like we only rlly get the fact that it happened from neil’s pov which is imo is prob bc he dissociated during it and therefore like knows it happened but may have a detatched emotional reaction to the memory bc of it) and then kevin just had to continue playing exy since then with that awful memory seeded inside him, know potentially fearing being killed if he underperforms or defies the moriyamas or smth to that effect, so he has to bury those feelings and focus on exy in order to survive AND 2. in jean & jeremy’s book there’s one part where jean thinks abt one of the freshmen ravens who started alongside him, who ended up dying due to their coaches beating him, after this the ravens most likely weren’t allowed to grieve, they just had to keep pushing to be better with that traumatic reminder that if they didn’t improve or were good enough they may be beat to death (now we don’t know for sure if the other ravens knew abt this, but we do know that jean knows the truth of his death—and presumably so would kevin & riko bc if jean knows they would have to know—and we know that the raven’s partner prob knew bc he had to cover his death up so it’s wouldn’t be a shock that the rest of them knew) and this begs the question, has this ever happened before? if so, that’s a cycle of even more death that kevin has witnessed in relation to exy, but bc exy is Everything at evermore he still has to perform to his best abilities, meaning that he prob turned to exy to deal w his grief or to push it down. which makes sense why he’s not impacted by seth’s death and focuses on exy/the team afterwards, bc that is how he copes and is raised to view death

oh also 3. after his mom’s death he is shoved into evermore & exy & riko & tetsuji & stardom & kayleigh’s legacy, so he prob used exy to cope w his mom’s death and the environment at evermore and then it snowballed from there w all the other death he encountered

just watched a tiktok of a guy explaining how he found dua lipa through her book club podcast and that’s all he knew of her for years until a friend mentioned her name and he got excited and was like you watch her book club interviews?! and the friend was like wtf, she has a book club ? and he was like what else does dua lipa do??? and to me that is something kevin would do

i need the ravens 16 hr days to be brought up more bc that sleep deprivations builds up (esp w their crazy schedule & abuse) and like we get a bit of it in jean’a books as mentions of the schedule & how strange the trojan’s ways are for him and how at one point jean is so well rested that he can’t force himself to sleep on the way to a game the trojans are playing (unlike w the ravens where he would try and catch up w sleep on the bus) but i wish we got to see more of the mental and physical aspects of the sleep deprivation and how that schedule fucked up his perception of time (we get snippets of time being warped from him w jean mentioning that 5 years in the nest felt like 7, but other than that we don’t get much)

and i’d also love to see more from kevin as well and how he deals w it bc he was in the nest from 9 (and sometimes spent summers there meaning he was going from normal 24 hr days to 16 hr days (i’d assume) then back to 24, until he was taken in) and we know that he’s hard to wake and we saw him sleep on busses a lot, but i wonder how else it effects him !!!! and how hard it was to break that cycle. also we know he left the nest around 19-20 and i’m p sure he got there around 9 so that would be around 10-11 years spent in 24 hr time, but in 16 hr time it’d be around 15-16.5 years if i did my math right ☹️☹️

hey so what if Dan is pissed off after becoming captain because no on is respecting her and she’s on the court in the middle of the night just pelting exy balls against the court as hard as she can

and Wymack is leaning on the doors of the outer court just waiting for her to notice him. And he picks up a racquet and silently has her score on him until she’s too tired to move.

and they just sit in the middle of the court and she’s got angry tears on her face and she’s so embarrassed about crying in front of her coach and feels like everyone is right about her captaincy

and Wymack tells her “you know, you play like Kayleigh Day did.”

I really like the parallel structure between The Foxhole Court and The Sunshine Court. I think it works really well to go from Character Arrives At New Team -> Character (and reader) Is Introduced To A Small, Close-Knit Group -> The Rest Of The Team Arrives And Is Gradually Introduced

However what I find hilarious is how Jean gets the sweetheart squad that is Jeremy, Laila and Cat, while Neil is just immediately tossed to The Monsters. have a fun first day, idiot
