I don’t know how many times I have to say this but if you smooth away at every rough edge that makes a well written character interesting you’re always going to end up with the same smooth sphere. And if you’re only comfortable playing around with that sphere then either you never liked the original all that much or you should probably have a long think about how you consume with media and why this is the only way you seem able to do so

Ok I wanna talk about DID Neil:

Neil: Host alter, fronts more and more following his time in the Nest.

Nathaniel: Earliest alter & most common host before Neil started fronting more. Tends to come up when dealing with his father. Quickest to lash out to protect the self. Struggles to trust others including Andrew at times.

Abram: Gatekeeper, keeps things in order. Tends to co-front but rarely fronts himself.

Raven: Developed during his time in the Nest and trying to process that trauma when his tools he used to survive his father failed. Deeply bonded with Jean + who went to California. Why Neil has no memory of his time in the Nest.

Little: Age roughly 7 years old, deeply bonded to his mom and Kevin / Riko. Struggles the most with lacking an identity based off of their treatment as a child / being deeply dehumanized from a young age. Rarely if ever fronts.

???: Fragments: A LOT from life on the road. His memories on the run are very scattered through out them. Dates, triggers, etc can make a new surprise guest pop up.

what are some of your favorite kandrew aus?

A lot of them are locked in an rp server that will never see the light of day BUT childhood friends kandrew & road trip / on the run kandrew. I also love omegaverse kandrew (top/dom omega andrew x bottom/sub alpha kevin) and anything during their pro days / navigating that noise post canon.

Also fond of any AU that has them fucked up and even worse and codependent. I have been rolling around a NGE / Pacific Rim au for Kandrew lately and it has been horrifying. I want Kevin Day to shatter in ways that are biblical.

question! how do you come up with/write your metas? what's the process?

Usually I'll have a vague thread I want to pull on (ie rn is: "Why does the diner knife scene feel weird vs the others?") & I'll work backwards from that. I do a lot of rereading of the books and picking scenes that I feel tie into my analysis. I always like to have actual text to support my analysis since I feel like telephone is a big issue in the fandom.

I screenshot and slap them into photoshop so they're the same size / look pretty (1250 x 250) and fight tumblr's layout with chunks of text for hours.

Once I have my thoughts down I usually take a couple of days to write it out & chew over what I want to say until it gets to a place I'm happy with. I love character analysis so my metas are my personal favorite thing to write and post even if they tend to be a lot more work than my sillier posts, haha

When I'm done w this meta I should do one about yes/no too because I feel like that also gets taken to weird extremes in fandom and gets applied to like andrew so much as touching neil which is crazy because really outside of sex andrew is touchy as hell (w neil)
