is it too early for christmas music
heard things have been tough lately, just saying hey and hoping you're okay!
thanks friend, nice to see that someone is still on this platform :P
“after the ashes // when will the pieces come together?”
i kept telling myself that this isn’t a repeat of four years ago
but it’s feeling more and more like it
…was i wrong?
8.4.21
it's
official!!
ahh :)
someone important to me came out to me today.
i had to tell you that i don’t personally agree with it, but more importantly i hope you understand how much i love you regardless. and i hope that one day you can understand that jesus loves you even more that i do
why do i still so often feel like i’m toiling after nothing, like i’m striving after the wind?
you say that i’m transformed, but so often i still feel like i’m still the same kid i was before i knew you
tell me that all my work will pay off in the end
i think for me, the biggest danger of quarantine is not social isolation or boredom, but that i get an excuse to do all the things i shouldn’t, like hermit in my apartment and watch too much tv and youtube and play too many video games and not talk to people or interact with the outside world.
gotta stay focused on what’s important
The apostle John writes that if we confess our sins, God is “faithful and just and will forgive us our sins” (1 John 1:9). It doesn’t say that if we confess our sins, God will forgive us because he is merciful (though that is, of course, also true). It says he forgives when we confess because he is just. In other words, it would be unjust of God to deny us forgiveness because Jesus earned our acceptance, as John goes on to immediately point out.
Tim Keller, “Prayer”
the book is about prayer and not about the forgiveness of sins but this is one of the most interesting insights i’ve received from it so far
quick compositions
vocals are meh but i was too lazy to do more than one decent take
tell me
tell me who I am
and tell me who I'm not
tell me how the way things are
are not the way I thought
tell me who I was
and tell me who I will become
tell me how the chains I wore
have been released and overcome
tell me about the one who bled
tell me about the one who died
tell me about the one who rose
to sit down by the Father's side
tell me about love
and tell me about peace
tell me about the one above
with whom my warring has now ceased
tell me about faith
and tell me about hope
tell me about the awaited days
of which our fathers spoke
tell me what it means to live
tell me what it means to die
tell me what it means to give
all I have and am to Christ
small group mini-retreat
i’ll be honest, this past weekend wasn’t nearly as rejuvenating as I expected or hoped for. my walk of discipleship has been up and down lately, with more downs than ups - it’s been hard to really desire God and feel zealous for His kingdom. i can feel the usual apathy slipping back in - the days seem to just zoom by without me really taking hold of the time and opportunities God has given me. i was really hoping that spending some time away from the city this weekend would give me some time to gather myself and refocus on what should be important to me. but i almost feel like i’m walking out of the retreat with more questions and uncertainties than before.
part of it might be that it felt like we were away more so to have a good time than to recharge and reconnect with God. i think this is something i’ve mentioned on this blog before - it seems to me that a lot of people at church seem to have this sort of mindset on the day-to-day. we get too caught up in enjoying ourselves to keep in mind how our everyday actions can and should contribute to the eternal reality of God’s kingdom. i guess i shouldn’t be so hard on people - i fall into this trap all the time. but i also think this is where a big part of my discontent stems from - i can do sometime and have a good time, but at the end of the day i go home and it seems like what we did doesn’t really matter all that much.
it’s really hard to keep the eternal perspective in mind when so many things tug and pull at you every single day. God, help me to remember that you are working all things for good for me and for all else who trust in you. remind me every day of the work of Christ that purchased redemption for me and allows me to enjoy repaired relationship with you. open my eyes to see where you are leading me, that i may know how to be a good and faithful servant.
i had to collect a student’s exam today when he really wanted more time to work on it, because he was going through the problems pretty slowly. we had already been gracious and given him a little more time than everyone else, but he was really upset that he wasn’t able to finish.
he was really trying to convince me to give him more time. and he was crying after. it wouldn’t have been fair to the other students to give him more time, but it’s hard not to second guess myself when he was so upset at not doing well as he wanted to.
dear student, i really hope that you will not define yourself by your ability or inability to do well on a math test. i hope you can someday know a Lord and a Savior who loves you and wants you to thrive and flourish
teaching can really fucking suck sometimes
i think i’m actually really looking forward to going back to chicago. i’ll take that as a good thing
“fellowship time” is great and all but it feels like we need to do more than just hang out and have fun. there are so many ways we can help each other draw closer to God and there is so much work to be done.
but it’s not like i’m really pulling my weight when it comes to making it happen either. feelsbadman.jpg
i walk the narrow
i walk the line right through the door
i walk the tightrope
but i’m just like i was before
all these people need Jesus in their lives
but i don’t know how to tell them about Him
i need more Jesus in my life too
