We will be exploring the art of animated filmmaking. I will share my works in progress, look to discover other interesting animated works and works in progress. Together we can learn, give feedback, motivate each other and simply enjoy the art of animation. LAIKA Moving Forward With 2D Film, Adding 150 New Jobs (x)

“In July 2014, we learned that LAIKA’s CEO Travis Knight hoped to make a hand-drawn animated film at some point in the future when he spoke at San Diego Comic-Con. Today, Knight has revealed that future to be sooner than expected.

The studio has created critically-acclaimed and visually stunning stop motion films including ParaNorman and Coraline, and is currently releasing its fourth film Kubo and the Two Strings on August 19.

Knight explained in an interview with Variety that LAIKA will begin adding more than 150 new jobs over this year to prepare for the hand-drawn film. He also mentioned that the film’s script will be written by Chris Applehans, a concept artist who has worked closely with the studio on their previous films.

You can expect to see new postings on LAIKA’s career page within the coming weeks.”

In 1970, a teenager found a hand-made album in a pile of trash in Springfield, Mo. Inside, there were 283 drawings of trains, cars, animals and portraits of people with haunting, circular eyes that stared dead ahead. The album had no name or signature, and each picture was drawn on stationary that belonged to State Hospital No. 3, an old mental institution in Missouri.

The album eventually made its way to an art dealer who discovered the artist’s identity and has now published the works in a book called The Electric Pencil: Drawings from Inside State Hospital No. 3. The book explains that the artist, James Edward Deeds Jr., spent most of his adult life as a patient at State Hospital No. 3, and the story of how he got there goes back to his childhood.

Nickelodeon Animated Comedy ‘The Loud House’ Sets Premiere Date – Get a First Look

“Nickelodeon has set a premiere date for its new animated comedy The Loud House, which will debut Monday, May 2, at 5 p.m.

The series, which centers around 10 sisters and one brother, is inspired by creator Chris Savino’s life growing up in family of 10 kids.

The 26-episode series follows 11-year-old Lincoln Loud and his 10 sisters (Lori, Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lucy, Lola, Lana, Lisa, and Lily) as he gives an inside look at what it takes to survive the chaos of a huge family. With his best bud Clyde, Lincoln always comes up with a plan to stay one step ahead of the chaos, but whether or not it works is where the adventures begin. Viewers can get a first look at full-length episodes from the series during previews on April 1 and April 15 on Nick.com, the Nick App, and Nick On Demand.”
