I am prefacing this post in saying I have not been able to reread the aftg series in a hot minute cause I got the books from my local library! Also wanting to say I did not know Kevin day was white and always thought he was a POC until I saw fan arts of him so...

Kevin day being a POC is so important to me but also in my opinion for the whole series itself. For one my hc is him being Chinese-Irish, and Native and Russian. (Kayleigh being Chinese and Irish and David being native and Russian very little Russian but it's still there.) I think him being Chinese specifically is a huge deal and to me makes so much sense as a whole. In my head canons list I pointed out that Riko would call him a mutt for being mixed (this may be canon but I'm not sure again it's been awhile since I did a reread) and the amount of dehumanizing behavior he had toward Kevin (this is canon). And historically the Japanese have a very long streak of very volatile racism to other Asian countries but the Chinese were almost always their main victims. (THIS NOT JAPAN HATE BTW I LOVE YALL) And with home toxic the nest was and how Riko and the other moriyamas see themselves as almost god like beings/people I would not be surprised at all if they kept this traditional racism going.

I also believe that Kevin Day being a POC also is just very powerful in itself. Kevin day is not the perfect victim. He is a very traumatized grown man who has made a lot of decisions and a lot of them have been bad. But hes the best. And he's earned to be cocky and confident because he beat the odds and saves himself. And him saving himself and running from the nest also saved jean the person he cared about the most. And I think his character is so much more powerful as a person of color because so many POC have had to go through similar experiences to keep themselves safe and those them love are able to save themselves too.

Idk if this made sense I just love Kevin day so much and this is basically just word vomit but to me Kevin day is not white and has never been white honest to God I always thought he was Chinese and then I saw the fanart of a little white boy. Also I cherish native wymack so close to my heart and it also makes Kevin so much sadder if he's also native because it's just another part of him that got stolen from the nest

(and also is maybe a bit of an explanation of why the people around him waters down or forgets Abt his trauma and seem to only focus on the white mcs?) NO HATE TO JEAN AND NEIL THEIR MY SONS MY BROTHER POINTED THIS OUT TO ME WHEN I FIRST READ IT AND WE THOUGHT HE WAS CHINSEE LIKE US

Kevins turn with HC's! Kevin day is a POC to me and as a POC I can do what I want! So, he's getting my issues and traumas projected onto him okay leave me alone. ALSO, it's very important for me to state the foxes (Including coach and Abby) are not evil in this SOCMED AU or this fic they are flawed people that make bad decisions that they don't always realize are hurting the people around them. They are lovely and they all love each other!

Chinese/Irish/Russian/Native descent (VERY IMPORTANT TO ME AND THE FIC AND THE WORLD IN GENERAL WILL BE ITS OWN POST PROB)

Riko would call him a mutt for being of mixed/unknown descent and had him completely convinced that Chinese people were genetically coded or proven to be genetically lesser than other people and that the Japanese were the superior race and did not find out otherwise until he got to PSU. (Historical Japanese racism alert.)

Does not know what 9/11 is will end up finding out in the SOCMED AU

Loves boxing but ONLY with Seth, it helps him a lot when he is first starting to get sober and its way for him to bond with Seth (and flirt) as well as get out some of that tension/stress in a healthy way

Him and Jean are friends and are trying to get to know each other. They're trying your honor (ALSO THEY'RE HEALING!!!)

Knows he has an alcohol problem and an eating issue, but he doesn’t really know what to do when the foxes, Coach Wymack and Abbey seem to be encouraging this behavior so now he's in a cycle where he doesn’t know how to stop/save himself. 

But Aaron is doing everything in his power to help him (it isn’t very successful at first) but when Seth comes back he's put in charge of both of them and this really leads to Kevin getting the help he deserves!!

Also, the three of them become roommates ;)

Beautiful green eyes and an anxiety disorder

Autism in lower case

Phobia of birds for obvious reasons (Cult reasons)

Becomes more laid back (or as laid back as he can be he is still Kevin day) when he becomes roommates with Aaron and Seth 

Has a growth spurt because of this and goes from 6’0 to 6’4 (freak)

Is always invited to girls' night

And looks fine asf in them like actually it should be illegal

Still has issues with control (so used to having others specially Riko choose everything for him) so he has some trouble with making decisions so sometimes he has Aaron or Seth make (SMALL) decisions for him if he really needs them too

But Aaron and Seth do make the decision for him to not go to Eden's or somewhere they know they'll be alcohol when he is first starting to get sober because they love him and care for him

Has very strained relationships with his older brothers (he’s the 4th oldest)

Has to unlearn a lot of behaviors from his childhood (some racism, homophobia and a little bit of ableism) this is mostly due to environment, taught behaviors and not being educated on those specific topics (And him being a bit to much of an asshole)

Loves his Mama SM and his Gramma, also loves his younger siblings and older sisters a bunch (And his dead older brother but he's hard to talk about)

Loved the Superman movie, sobbed through basically the whole movie but he’d never tell you that

After his coma he finds out or starts to realize how repressed he is and what he was doing/acting like was super not okay, so he does some DEEP reflection and then basically goes around to all the foxes and just apologizes to them. Many tears are shed. (Andrew also gets a little teary eyed but when Seth pointed that out he got stabbed so it didn't happen.)
