गुजरात में जीवा-दत्ता नाम के परमात्मा में आस्थावान भक्त रहते थे जिन्हें तत्वदर्शी सन्त की तलाश थी। उन्होंने एक गमले में सूखी टहनी डाल दी और तय किया कि जिस सन्त के चरण धोने के पश्चात जल से गमले की टहनी हरी हो जाएगी वह सन्त पूर्ण तत्वदर्शी सन्त होगा।

एक दिन कबीर साहेब पहुंचे और उनके चरण धोए। जल से वह टहनी हरी हो गयी।

संत गरीबदास जी का जन्म गाँव-छुड़ानी, जिला-झज्जर, हरियाणा में सन् 1717 (विक्रमी संवत् 1774) में हुआ।

सन् 1727 फाल्गुन सुदी द्वादशी के दिन के लगभग 10 बजे परमात्मा गरीबदास जी को नला नामक खेत में मिले सर्व ज्ञान कराया सतलोक लेकर गए और पृथ्वी पर वापस छोड़ा।

तब गरीबदास जी ने बताया कि काशी में जो 120 वर्ष कबीर जुलाहा की भूमिका करके गए वह स्वयं परमात्मा हैं।

जिस कूं कहते कबीर जुलाहा । सब गति पूर्ण अगम अगाहा।।
