Monthly Report for June 2018

Item Implementation Done

It turned out that we needed a tiny bit more than what June had to offer to get the item implementation rock solid. So a few days into July, we're there. Check out the screenshots! If you need more details, go visit the dev log.

Early Access in July

We're currently adding more levels for the game and we're packaging everything together into a nice release that we'll make available on Steam as an Early Access title later this month. Stay tuned!!

Features

skills now require a minimum Tier instead of a minimum Level

heroes now reach Tier 3 with Level 9, Tier 4 with Level 12, and Tier 5 with Level 15

implemented item drop logic

tested, tweaked and fixed item implementation

The item implementation was the last behemoth feature to implement and of course requires thorough testing. Also, it was absolutely necessary to have items actually being dropped by some logic other than dropping at will for testing purposes. They now do by a secret logic that we will tell nobody about. But we can tell you that items rock and that there's already nice combinations of items that make your character extra strong.

This week, we actually made items available in Undead Legions. Some minor things are still missing, like gamepad support for the new screens, but everything works like a charm already. Undead Legions now comes with 32 items that you can find while fighting through the levels. Also, we're still (and continuously) working on our game object archictecture, slowly transorming it into a nice entity component system, which it should have been from day one.

blueprints can now be turned into real items in the Item Forge

implemented a terrific architecture for item handling so that nothing can stop us from implementing mind blowing item abilities

added an initial collection of items

redesigned the gui base that now allows for deriving more efficient gui elements

derived an incredibly efficient gui element that is used in the new Item Forge

Items, and thus blueprints, come in different rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary. The rarer an item, the less likely it will drop from treasure goblins. This never-before-seen approach adds much to the joy of collecting items. Most items only have stat effects, while Legendary items always have an additional unique power.

Current Status of Undead Legions - Resurrection

a campaign mode with 18 playable, well balanced levels, including 2 challenge levels with player rewards

difficulty settings that also affect the amount of gold (and later items) being dropped

17 different types of enemies, including 2 bosses

2 playable hero classes, the Rogue and the Gunner that can be played up to hero level 10

6 learnable skills for the Gunner, 5 for the Rogue

7 support spheres (2 support spheres, 2 destruction spheres, 2 fortress spheres, one unlockable bonus sphere)

the classic mode as known from the first installment of Undead Legions with new types of enemies

around 2 hours of gameplay in total

Early Access

Undead Legions - Resurrection will be released as an early access title on Steam this summer. As soon as the item implementation works rock solid, we will add a few more levels in the next environment and then head straight towards an early access release. More details about that at a later time.

Dev Log Week #21

Features

added game difficulty settings

difficulty affects the health and speed of the Undead and the amount of damage they deal

higher difficulty increases the amount of gold dropped and the chance of item drops

Dev Features

significantly improved the in-game debugging capabilities for game objects

Up until now, our goal was to leave difficulty settings away. Players who can't beat a specific level were to grind earlier levels until they become strong enough.While this sounds nice in general, the difference in skill between hardcore and casual gamers is just to great. Balancing this approach to everybody's advantage became an unsolvable task.

So here they are, difficulty settings! Barely implemented, it turned out that they are a great feature for all kinds of players. In a twist of fate, they actually make grinding more fun. Need more gold the easy way? Go play an earlier level in Ultra difficulty. 

Also, we can now debug game objects much easier, which really was about time...
