This was a piece done by Kris graves called “Shashin”.This was one of the many pieces in his Testament series.What I really enjoy about this piece is the color,the use of the blues,pinks,and reds make the picture really pop.As for what the piece makes me think of is someone in a club.As they are looking into the crowd of people,you don’t hear the noise of the club.So all you are left with this is solemn image of man peering into the distance.For me the colors on the portraits is what I really like about Kris’s work.They add a new layer to the shots that would be missing without the color.I also like how the each piece has it’s own story other than my interpretation.I think it’s good that people were able to lift off some weight off them selves with these self portraits.Overall I think Kris Graves has a interesting line up and I would like to see the work of his future endeavors.

Amber hawk Swanson is quite the intriguing person.Her artwork has shaped her life as well as her experiences starting from her first real doll till now.I find her quite interesting as person but I’m not too into her art,it’s just not my cup of tea.If I had to pick one from the many it would be the piece called “Shower Curtain Kiss”.I enjoy the composition of the picture and how she is behind the curtain to showcase more of the doll in the front.If it was done the other way around it wouldn’t have carried the same impact.The fact she is kissing the doll makes me wonder if this was one of the many photos people took of their dolls.Amber talked about how many real life doll owners would sometimes recreate famous photos.So I’m curious to know whether that was the case or not with some of these of these pieces like this one.

Ali Miller

So the work by Ali Miller I quite enjoy.I really enjoy the use of color in the piece.Like most of her work the surreal nature and colors are the biggest eye catcher.Such as in this piece you have the women standing in this floor made of and not water.Also The various interconnecting piping and metals add some more visual interest to the piece.Since with the more linear and more defined pipes it helps create a contrast  to the very water like visuals.Another I like is how it seems to be a symbol to anxiousness.Since I you can see what looks like a pool with a dive board,so this women must be peering over and looking at the pool below.The wreckage behind her could be the world around being destroyed as she peers over the edge.Her work over the many presentations I have seen thus far has been my favorite of the bunch.

Stormking

This was one of the sculptures I saw in Stormking. Among all the green the bright red metal really popped.From what I drew was at a different angle but as you look around the sculpture you see new little details from other pieces of metal jutting out of various places.I might not learn what was the intent of the piece but I like the repeated use of “A” in the sculpture(various parts look like an A if you look at it just right”.As I was drawing I was able to take in more of the details of the sculpture. In how everything intersects from each beam to the other,that is one of the benefits of seeing in the person for all those angles.Overall seeing Stormking was a interesting and refreshing experience.I would recommend if you have the time to check it out and see the other sculptures on display there.

Kelsey Elder

The work of Kelsey Elder really pops off the page and really stand out.I really enjoy how the art tries to capture that ideas of buzzwords.With the Gasoline,Jalopy,etc.The contrasting words also help with making them stand out.The other aspect  of this piece that reminds me of those commercials where they just throw words in there face.It makes you feel overwhelmed without the amount in your face.I also like how the font changes into various styles from bold to squiggly and very erratic.I find it cool how he combines his work with his passions.He has a love for cars and typography,so seeing him meld the two is really cool.It interesting to see people blend there backgrounds with there art.It offers a new perspective that you wouldn’t normally see.Overall the work of Kelsey is bold and in your face.It assaults you with color and brings you back to those TV car commercials where you can also smell the gasoline coming from the screen.

Eric Gottesman discussion

This photo was taken by the photographer Eric Gottesman called “ "The Last Days of Baalu Girma “.The black and white photo is quite exceptionally,I like how he managed to keep the window in middle of the background contrasting with the people in the foreground.The figures pop more as a result,which leads into what the figures are doing.It comes off as showing how your speech is limited in the US as supported by the man saluting in the back of the photo.Also I have to say I do quite love ways of using shadows creatively.So using the man with the pen on his head as a man saluting I quite enjoy. As for the hand since I didn’t talk about it much,it most likely meant to be the US choking the the throats(thus stopping there speech).Overall I quite enjoy this piece and find it to be a quality piece of political commentary.

I quite enjoy this piece from Rob Swainston.The first thing that caught my eye was the reflection,it adds so much more life to the piece and energy.The wood also gives some nice texture to the reflection.If gives off a more natural vibe that if it was just the reflection it would look too flat and lose a lot of the charm.So with the blue wood you also get this nice contrast to the warmer colors of the sun on more mellowed blue wood.Giving a sense of calm to the piece and makes it seem like you are watching the sun rise from dusk in the wee hours of the morning.I do wonder if he planed this set up or did he stumble on the idea while leaving his wood prints around in his studio.This piece makes me want to experiment with using natural light in unconventional ways to enhance my art.
