Donald R. Leich: Clouds in the Head (1985)
A bittern can assume terrifying positions to ward off predators. Their feet keep them steady while the neck extends to become one of the most horrifying shapes ever seen. Horrifying shapes are known to cause psychological distress and dehydration. This is how they survive so long, and become so long. Always be wary of powerful bitterns because they can poke you , but are too shy. but they could.
fuck it somwtimes i just sprinkle sugar on it
can everyone do me a favor and tell me your favorite thing to put on toast in the tags
i love this post so much. all the replies are like
"i'm so basic.....i just like a lot of butter or jam :(" (as though those are not god's best and most beloved condiments and his greatest gifts to mankind)
"FUCK health guidelines FUCK my cholesterol and most importantly FUCK diet culture i'll put a dumpster full of butter on my toast and not even GOD will stop me" (no notes. god would encourage this)
doxxing one's self by mention of polarizing regional delicacies (i am so curious about vegemite i must admit)
"does a grilled cheese count as toast?" (not for the purposes of this post)
"i don't like toast please don't kill me" (i appreciate the honesty but i fear this post is not for you)
people who put full ass meals on toast (based)
people who do not but eat toast as a full meal (based)
melty peanut butter (absolutely based)
"it's a guilty pleasure but...nutella 😳" (relieve yourself of fear and enjoy your dessert toast)
special shoutout to the pots-havers adding extra salt. also the one person who mentioned kaya. i see you and am in agreement
im starting to think i do write like a moid in spanish

it's natural for people to test their limits. especially people with unusual limits. eventually you meet them. that's called learning things the hard way
evoking bertholt brecht’s “the way people cast a play!” quote as a spell against prescriptive, stereotypical, fatalistic typecasting
idk what to tell you except go look at the fishwives

on my last island i was soo gutted when i got miranda like i wanted to kick her out so badly and i only kept her bc one of adrian's sisters liked her lmao but she’s just bwing a tourist in my island now and i think she’s cute lol
tbh "religious liberty" always felt like a uniquely weak reason that you should be allowed to do something. "I know it seems bad, but have you considered that I'm doing it because it's important for no reason?"
If people have freedom of expression, which they should, then they'll have the freedom to say, write, and distribute religious things. If people have freedom of movement and assembly, as they should, then they'll have the freedom to gather with groups of like-minded people and do religious things together.
So what is religious liberty adding here that goes above and beyond what those other liberties are already granting? Why does religion need a special carve out? And I feel like what's really being granted here is not additional freedom for religious people but additional privileges for religious institutions, and even more damningly special exemptions from the rules that ordinarily apply to other people or groups of people.
someone can't get denied or fired from most jobs or educational institutions bc they don't work on the sabbath, or bc they're jewish, or bc they have to wear a particular religious garment. things like that alone are kind of major. but religious institutions having more privileges to follow their earnestly held beliefs than like, mcdonalds, that's not a bad thing either. i definitely recommend looking into the historical context of the constitution for more answers. some of which have to do with how much the govt is allowed to control institutions which have so much influence over people's heartfelt choices. if you literally don't have any idea why ppl felt so strongly about it, there's definitely some more information out there to be had
i have that information and ive had this conversation before, mostly in a national context. my issue is i don’t think anyone should be fired because of the way they dress, whether it’s a religious thing or not, for example. on the other hand, how earnestly do these beliefs need to be held? all scientology had to do in the us was wage a years long war against the irs
you think you'll do away with jobs having dress codes of any kind? maybe
i think at my callcentre job at 19 i wasnt allowed to wear a knithat when i had a headcold but had coworkers wearing hijab with no problem. if a dresscode is necessary it follows that it’s necessary for everyone.
