Finally, we got more Varian! And finally, they addressed the rocks again! And Cass finally got to be a guard! I remember watching this episode and getting this strong impression that it was like a classic fairytale. Cassandra is the heroine, and she has this Thing She Wants to Do, but before she can do it, she must complete and endless list of tasks. It seems like sheāll never get it all done, but then her Special Helper arrives and offers assistance in exchange for a favor, which she agrees to. However, even after getting what she wants, she backs out on the deal. Later, though, she learns her lesson and helps the Special Helper, the antagonists get their comeuppance, and they all live happily ever after. Or would, if they didnāt further the overall plot in this episode.
The B plot of Rapunzel trying to invent things, but only coming up with thing that had already been invented, was also delightful to me. This showcased how living in a tower for eighteen years had really stunted her social development, that she wouldnāt know about things that most people learn about as children. Plus, Eugene being there to help her out and encourage her every step of the way while clearly adoring her creativity was so sweet and special.
