Fun day walking the Kapalua Beach Trail with a midway stop for lunch at the Four Seasons. We spent the rest of the afternoon swimming, snorkeling and people watching in Kapalua Bay - my favorite beach next to Hamoa Beach.

Caught a lovely sunset in Laihana, our home base for the rest of the trip.

We spent two nights glamping at Camp Olowalu, on the west side of Maui. The camp was beautifully maintained with beachfront access.

We had a great time kayaking and snorkeling the Olowalu Reef! I swam with a sea turtle and saw tons of fish. Our guide took us to as area with reef sharks; several black and white tipped sharks zipped right by our kayaks.

10/10 experience!

We spent the day hiking 10+ miles in the lunarlike volcanic landscape at Haleakala National Park. The drive up to the summit is one of the fastest ascending roads in the world with 33 switchbacks passing through several climate zones.

Our second day on the Road to Hana brought us to the southern end of Haleakala National Park. The road was narrow and curvy, but the final destination worthwhile.

We hiked the Pipiwai Trail, through a bamboo forest and to Waimoku Falls. We made a quick stop to view the Oheo Gulch.

On our return drive on the Road to Hana we stopped at Wailua Falls for a swim, Hamoa Beach for body surfing and Coconut Glen’s for their famous vegan coconut ice cream.

We spent two days road tripping 105 miles RT on the famous Road to Hana, from Paia to the southern end of Haleakala National Park.

The Road to Hana has approximately 600 curves and 54 one way bridges, traveling through lush rainforest, rugged ocean vistas, countless waterfalls and pools.

Our stops on the first day included Twin Falls, Waikamoi Nature Trail, Keʻanae Peninsula, lunch at Hana Farms, Hana Bay and Waianapanapa State Park. We spent the most time at the state park, hiking the dramatic coastline trail and a visit to the Black Sand Beach

We stayed in Hana that night and learned the town closes at 7pm, even on a Saturday! Dinner that night was gas station snacks, hopefully we’ll have more luck tomorrow as we continue our road trip adventure!

We made it to Maui, HI! Hard to believe I hadn’t been on a plane for over a year!

We began our stay at Mama’s Fish House Inn outside of Paia. Delicious cocktails and snacks followed by some time at the beach on their property.

We walked to the neighborhood health food store for dinner items and enjoyed the rest of the evening on our patio.

Off to tackle the Road to Hana tomorrow!

Sometimes life is like a fairytale...3 days, 40 miles backpacking Enchanted Valley to Anderson Glacier with great company. A historic chalet, bear sightings, perfect weather and epic views made this a 10/10 trip.
