Jerusalem on a Friday. The entry to the old city has been restricted for Palestinian worshippers. So they are forced to gather before the city walls. . Agfa Apx 100
Shuafat is dominated by concrete, let’s call it a concrete jungle. Playgrounds? Streets where children can play freely? I haven’t seen any. Often rooftops are the last hideaway to play. I chose to show you a b/w and a coloured picture to symbolize the emotional dimensios you find her. Free childhood laughter and at the same time hopelessness and Tristesse. In the backgrounder you can see the wall separating the Refugeecamp from the illegal Settlement. . #agfaapx100
„The imitation game“ Back in Shuafat Refugecamp. Wandering through the camp I found so many motives: children, adults, houses, trash, the wall… But what I want to show you today is nothing I could capture easily. It’s about what moved me most and not only in a good way. As you can imagine it´s the youth. 2016 was a crazy year. In the beginning of October 2016 there was something happening what I like to call „mini Intifada“. Something horrible occurred: a young girl got shot at a Checkpoint in Khalil/Hebron. After that there was a Domino effect and more and more horrible incidents attacks and killings occurred. For about a month it was kind of "en Vouge" for young 11 to 15 year old Palestinians to attack IDF Soldiers with knives, sometimes with a sharpened ruler or even with nothing but their fists. Most of them - I don’t want to lie but I believe all of them - got shot. I witnessed one of those killings myself and it was horrible! But let me get back to Shuafat. Teens started to fight back and if teenagers start something, kids think it is cool and start to imitate. When we were young, we played with our Water Pistols (Super Soccers), Sticks, or later on maybe also with a Soft-Gun (A Gun with plastic bullets). But during this period kids started to play with knives, imitating those martyr who lost their lives trying to fight Goliath. . . #FujiX100s

With this Post I will take you step by step into Shuafat Refugee Camp located in East-Jerusalem and explain you a little about the Situation of the camp in my next post I´m going to show and tell you more from inside.(Fro the full story go to: https://www.instagram.com/p/CSeF63qMCdb/?utm_medium=tumblr) Shuafat is part of East-Jerusalem and the only refugee camp located in Israel and not in the Westbank Areas. In 1965/66 many Palestinians were forcibly moved here from the Muaska Refugee Camp. In the Six Day war Shuafat and East-Jerusalem got annexed by Israel so the inhabitants could get the Israeli citizenship, many refused it due to the illegal occupation of the Palestinian land. (I will tell you more about the consequences in my following posts) Today Shaufat is a huge Refugee Camp, its highly overpopulated, the population is estimated between 70.000 and 100.000, there is no security, no police, a high rate of unemployment and poverty, no working garbage disposal beside burning it and still… no equality. There is a huge wall surrounding the camp, and there is only one entry and exit (Checkpoint) to Jerusalem. This causes huge traffic jams especially in the morning and evening hours when the inhabitant need to get to their Jobs outside the camp. Furthermore the Checkpoint is a place of frequent escalation and clashes between IOF Soldiers and the Palestinian inhabitants of Shuafat. Another disturbing fact is that those inhabitants having the Israeli citizenship or the blue Palestinian ID (yes there are different Israeli/Palestinian IDs connected to different rights) have to pay the same taxes as Israelis, but they haven´t got the same rights neither a police, neither a working social system or the normal things a state should provide to the tax payers.
Live behind the wall. You see: The wall surrounding Shuafat Refugee Camp, located in Jerusalem. Who decides where you can live? Who decides where you can go? Who decides where you are born? And who decides what rights you have? In our case, born as a Palestinian in 1948/Israel, Jerusalem, the Westbank or Gaza it´s Israel. A white colonial state who is able to determine the fate of human beings. Human beings who are not Jews, not Israelis but … yeah... still, human beings. But being human doesn´t mean that we are equal, that basic human rights apply for all of us. No! Being human in a political, white... colonial. The Knesset train off thoughts means: Different races = different status ; different religion = different rights. Which means: the color off your skin and/or your religion determinates the worth off your live. Just to make it clear! That’s racisms, apartheid and colonialism. . #ilfordhp5 pushed to 3600 https://www.instagram.com/p/CSZTAkxspzP/?utm_medium=tumblr

Today I would like to introduce you to Faiz (@faizaburmeleh ). During my stay in Jerusalem I met him and his friends. A group of young human right activists, photojournalists, human right lawyers and other human beings seeking for freedom. From time to time you gonna meet them in my blog. Faiz is a wonderful guy who grew up in Jerusalem’s old city and could tell me a lot about life there. He took me in like a brother and showed me around and evoked new viewpoints and insights and I could find some special spots to take pictures. Therefore I would like to thank him! Shukran Habibi! . How would it be if all people living in in the borders of Israel and Palestine could be free, move freely and be equal? How would it be if all Palestinians could visit the Dead or Mediterranean Sea? Wouldn’t that be fair? Imagine living in f.e. Nablus seeing and smelling the Mediterranean, heaving seagulls shitting on your car but not being allowed to go there, maybe not even once in your live. Knowing the world could be open to you but you are looked up in a huge openair cage. That’s reality. That’s apartheid that’s occupation that’s a situation we have to end we have to fight against. Let us be free! . #agfaapx100
