part two of six sentence sunday. you got the au you know and love. now you get the bullshit for like ten people. this is also more than six but it's entirely for my own benefit. have you guys heard the good word about deadsea

“Are you alright?” Maruu asks. 

“Oh, I’m great,” he says, and he laughs. “I’ve always said I look best in red.”

He takes a few steps closer, stopping at the bounds of the farm. He stands in the wheat, half grown, and watches Maruu still at the water’s edge. 

“Syyrin’s still making her way back,” he adds, “But with how that godawful strip mine is, it’ll take her a while. For now, it’s just us.”

Lew isn’t sure if Maruu will think that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Maruu is more than familiar with what he’s like on red, but it’s one thing to share his fever and another thing entirely to suffer the brunt of it. 

Maruu takes a purposeful step out of the water. Her hands are clasped behind her back, and when she steps, the muddy ground squelches under her shoe. She makes a face, and Lew snickers, but it doesn’t stop her from closing about half the distance. 

That little red life instinct rears its ugly head again, a coiled snake ready to strike. 

“You should already know by now,” Lew says, the closest thing to a warning he’s willing to offer, “what I’m going to ask you.”
