Hello friends and followers,

As most of you have probably realized, I have not been active on my Phantom of the Opera blogs much in recent weeks and months. I love the characters I have played in the Phandom and – more importantly – I love the friends that I have made in this community. However, my inspiration has waned of late. A combination of writer’s block, insecurity, health issues, and reorganized priorities has made maintaining my Phantom of the Opera RP blogs stressful. I am also set to go on a road trip at the end of July and to begin my post-baccalaureate studies in August. My time is about to become my most precious commodity and I would like to invest it wisely: in blogs with active muses. Moreover, I do not want to leave my wonderful roleplay partners waiting for threads that may never come to fruition. As such, I am taking a break from my Phantom of the Opera blogs indefinitely. I would like to stress that this decision has been a long time coming – despite my attempts to combat it – but also that it is not a permanent decision. My love for Phantom of the Opera has been a lifelong passion and the characters have invariably found their ways back to me over time. They will be back. I will be back. I do not know when.

For those wondering, semihiatus in this case will be defined as:

Largely inactive. Replies will be slow. I am asking my RP partners to be patient.

I am not taking on any new roleplay partners for the time being. Exceptions to this rule only include those mutuals with whom I talk OOC but haven’t RP’d with yet and any new RP blogs close friends create..

Being extra choosy - even among current roleplay partners! - with what I devote my time to. This will stand even once off semi-hiatus.

Threads will be dropped if I am overloaded or uninspired, but I will do my best to give notification.

I will no longer greet new followers, as I have been doing on Erik for the last two years. If I’m not taking new partners, there is little point in making it seem like I am.

The only reason these blogs are not going on a full-blown hiatus is because I do not wish to sever ties with the Phandom or with my Phandom friends. I do not want to let them down. I also have a few plots and relationships that excite me between characters. I want to reiterate that these blogs, despite only being on “semi-hiatus”, will be largely inactive. i will block anyone who pressures me to respond or who complains about my lack of activity. It’s hard enough to maintain these blogs in any capacity, even without criticism..

For those wondering, hiatus in this case will be defined as:

A full lack of activity until the end of hiatus (whenever that may be).

Not taking on any new roleplay partners for the time being.

All threads in my drafts will be dropped.

This hiatuses may be staggered, depending on when/if my inspiration returns or when/if I have time

These blogs are going on a full hiatus because I have either lost muse for them entirely (ex. Raoul), or I am struggling with maintaining inspiration for them long-term (ex.Meg), or I never managed to get them off the ground and I no longer have the time to do so (the Khan family multimuse blog). I don’t know when these characters will upgrade to a semihiatus status, much less come off hiatus status entirely.  I will block anyone who pressures me to respond or who complains about my lack of activity.

I am a human being and I ask that my followers - and most especially my friends - respect my decision and respect me.

I am NOT giving up roleplay or Tumblr altogether. If you would like to roleplay with me or keep in touch with me, your best bet is to contact me on @actofgenius – my 2015 Victor Frankenstein blog, or what I call his “auxiliary” blogs: @hunchbackedphysician​. and @trxpeze​. I plan to keep Victor and my other “Frankenblogs” active or semi-active, even during the school year.

Thank you all so much for the fun, the acceptance, and for challenging me creatively. I hope that my lovely friends and mutual followers will stay in touch.

Headcanon Dump: Modern Darius: 5/26/16

Of all the siblings, Darius (ironically) looks the most like Ismael.

Darius is 5 months younger than Nadir (and the product of Ismael’s affair with Rayka Hashemi. Darius is the second oldest sibling.

Despite the circumstances of their conceptions, Nadir and Darius became best friends. They grew up in the same, close-knit Persian community in Great Neck, New York.

Rayka never married, but instead funneled her energies into the Hashemi family business: Royal Cleaning Company. It was her father’s company and inherited by Rayka and her sister, Ziba.

Darius’ aunt Ziba married a man named David Bertucci. They had two daughters. Their eldest daughter is named Azar, who was considered the family maverick. Their youngest daughter Sahar was significantly younger than Darius and Azar, so Darius never grew very close to her.

Darius’ maternal grandfather passed away when Darius was fifteen and his mother and aunt inherited Royal Cleaning Company, which had a strong presence on Long Island. Darius and Azar both started to work for the family around that time, but it was Darius’ dream to pursue culinary school some day.

Instead of pursuing culinary school, Darius got a degree in business and marketing with intention to take over Royal Cleaning Company. Azar, at this time, dropped off the family map. When she would turn up intermittently, she always had a place to stay with Darius and a job at Royal Cleaning Company.

Darius slowly took over the family business and grew it to service the greater New York City Area, including Long Island and the five boroughs. When he was thirty-five, he inherited the business altogether. His mother retired.

Darius eventually sold the family business for an undisclosed sum of money… enough to put himself through culinary school and buy a restaurant in Brooklyn, where he serves innovative halal dishes alongside traditoinal Persian fare.

Darius is Reza’s unofficial godfather. It is in Nadir’s will that if something happens to him, Darius gets Reza.

Darius is asexual. However, he is a total romantic (heteroromantic) and he dates somewhat frequently. His mother has high hopes that he will marry someday and have a family of his own, but Darius really just wants someone to kiss, cuddle, and cook with; someone who is happy to see him at the end of the day.

Darius keeps an herb garden in his apartment and grows vegetables on a rooftop garden at his restaurant. 

Darius loves farmers’ markets, Instagram, and antique stores. Pari says he’s a total hipster. She’s probably not wrong.

Darius is devoutly religious. But that’s Kay canon and true for him in all verses.

“Of course we’re incredibly attractive,” Pari quips before Sogand or Darius can say anything. “We’re Khans. It’s practically what we’re known for.”

Sogand shoots her sister a disparaging look as Darius looks at his feet and smiles to himself, perhaps too embarrassed to speak. When Pari makes no attempt to defend her position from her sister, Sogand turns her gaze to Rookheeya and she smiles.

“As is our sister-in-law,” she says. “Our entire family is blessed with Allah’s favor, praise be.”

Darius peered at his former mistress in confusion. To be him? The fatherless son of a cook? A personal steward whose master was imprisoned? He would have laughed, but it wasn’t funny. Darius had known Rookheeya for half his life, but he would never have guessed that she wondered what it was like to be him.

Even now - perhaps especially now - as they awaited the day Nadir was released from prison. Darius now worked in Sogand’s kitchen, but his new mistress treated him with the same kindness that Nadir had extended to him. Under the pretense that he was visiting his aunt, uncle, and cousins who worked for Rookheeya’s brother, he was allowed to accompany Sogand and her husband, Ali, to Rookheeya’s home and occasionally, everyone turned a blind eye to their conversations, as they did now.

Rookheeya and Darius strolled through the garden while others were at dinner and Darius found himself wondering the same thing. What is it like to be you? She had endured so much loss, but endured nonetheless. She was still brilliant, bold, beautiful. He wondered sometimes if she, too, cried out in anger at night sometimes. If she, too, thought Nadir’s sacrifice had been in vain and that they would have all been happier if Erik had been marched to the gallows and their family left alone to carry on as it had for all those years before the magician cast his curse over them. She seemed so much more forgiving. Perhaps she was in a position to be. She had family to return to, instead of being snatched up like property before the government could confiscate Darius along with Nadir’s signet ring and livestock...

“What it’s like to be me? I wonder what it must be like to be you,” Darius told her. “I don’t think there’s a person on this planet I admire more except my mother and...”

The unspoken name was clear even without Darius’ saying it. Until Nadir was released from prison, his place was green.

“But Reza made the cute face. He knows we’re both suckers for the cute face,” she hummed, looking through the fridge. She knew she’d used maple syrup here before. She grabbed it, triumphant as she added some to the mixture, tasting it and grinning. 

“Yes. Thank God I made pancakes here once. Next time, we will. Because I haven’t cooked here much. But Reza was here and he made the cute face. I’m sensing a pattern…”

“We really need to be strong when it comes to Reza’s cute face,” Darius said.

He watched Gwen with confusion as she looked through the refrigerator for maple syrup. He’d never seen anyone keep it there, although if anyone was going to do things a little (or a lot) differently from everyone else, it would be Erik. 

He turned back to his pie crust and the impeccable lattice strips he’d made. He couldn’t help but to smile at his handiwork. Maybe blueberry pie wasn’t traditional, but it would certainly be delicious with his and Gwen’s combined prowess. He wondered - not for the first time - why they didn’t just go into business together, catering events or running a restaurant. 

“You at least haven’t had time to build up an immunity,” he said. “I’ve known the kid his whole life and I’m a goner when he gives me those sad-puppy eyes.”

“We’re both so stubborn.”

“Is that so?” Darius asked. “I- er - hadn’t noticed, mistress.”

Of course he’d noticed. Everyone in the household had noticed how often Rookheeya and Erik clashed with one another. Neither yielded and most often, Nadir was left to intervene. Which left Darius to listen to Nadir’s frustrations about the whole mess. He averted his gaze. He knew Rookheeya well enough to know that she’d know he was lying. He just hoped she knew him well enough that he was doing so to avoid inadvertently insulting her.

“Good Lord, did you walk here?”

Pride and Prejudice Starters

Darius chuckled and brushed snow off of his shoulders. 

“Not the whole way,” he said. “But... someone has decided it’s better for our health to walk rather than hire a cab. ... He’ll be up in a minute.”

The carriage had dropped Darius and Nadir off about a mile back, where the snow was too deep to ride through. Nadir had paid the driver in full instead of arguing and insisted it would be good for them to walk. The man was going mad, Darius thought. Just a little. He spent his waking hours writing furiously in those damned notebooks of his - as if he was running out of time - or penning letters to Christine with more fervor than either lover or father and though Nadir claimed he slept, Darius had his doubts. His master, his dearest friend grew more eccentric as time passed. Sometimes Darius thought it as grief - losing Rookheeya, Reza, and Erik had taken its toll on him - but other times, Darius simply thought Nadir had always been idiosyncratic and it was easier to notice when it was just the two of them alone in Paris. 

“It’s good to see you, Christine,” Darius said. “Where are the children? I have sweets for them... and you, of course.”
