Before moving to LatAM I didn't know there were people who aspired to live at the bottom of the mountain. It makes sense in hindsight. The bottom of the mountain is surrounded by unexplored jungle, green landscapes, opportunity, possibility; any path you want to take is yours. You're close to stores and doctors, you're close to the earth from which you're made. The closer you live to the top of the mountain, the more limited your options become, the narrower your path gets, until you reach the top of the mountain, the peak, and this is where the path stops. It's only down from there. The view is high and heady and narrow. You have a 360 view of everything you left behind without being able to make out a single one of their faces. Once you're there, being there is your only option. Coming back down to earth is a mighty effort. Why do so many of us want to live at the top of the mountain?
