Korean Mythology: Ungnyeo
Associated with change, peace, devotion, inspiration and patience. Two friends, a tiger and a bear, lived together in a cave and prayed to the divine king Hwanung to be made human. Hwanung heard their prayers and gave them 20 cloves of garlic, a bundle of mugwort and ordered them to stay out of the sunlight and eat only this food for 100 days. Due to hunger, the tiger left the cave after roughly 20 days, but the bear remained inside and after the time had passed, she was transformed into a woman.
“Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”
- Stephen Hawking
For Halloween, you may well be making use of fake blood as part of your costume. Blood’s always red, right? WRONG. Here’s a look at the range of different colours of blood in different organisms, and the chemicals behind them. Larger image and more info here: http://wp.me/p4aPLT-Fc
when i say “white people” I don’t literally mean white people, I mean the systematic white supremacist oppression of black people that ALL white people DO in fact benefit from.
Tavros finally got confidence and did something productive for saving his friends. It is just a shame that he is still a jerk. His lack of confidence is what made him seem like a pure and sweet cinnamon roll, but it has been proven in the past that he can rival Vriska in being cruel, and more wth people he hates (Vriska and John). I must say that I am impressed at how good he is as a leader, and I approve of his methods, but I disapprove of his showing off, even if Vriska deserved to see the truth. Hussie did a quite a good job animating this upd8.

Writing About People Different from You
People will tell you that there’s no secret to writing characters who are different than you. “Just write them like people!”
Well, those people are full of shit.
The thing is, people of different races, sexual orientations, gender identities - they all have very unique ways of living, approaching different situations, and thinking. So writing them “just like anyone else” often comes across as writing them as straight, cisgender, and white.
Every community has its own culture, its own values, its own style and rhythm. And that’s not just true for different ethnicities and races, but the queer community, as well. People who are marginalized, especially, have ways of doing normal, everyday things differently than those who are not. They do these things to keep themselves safe, to not draw attention to themselves, to fit in.
So if you decide to put someone in your story that’s somehow different from you in a major way, you’re going to need to do some research. The best thing you can do in this situation is read books written by the people you’re trying to write. If you’re straight and want to write a book with a bisexual female character, read books by bisexual women about bisexual women. Find the blogs these people write and follow them. Talk to them. Ask them if you can talk about their experiences.
What you should not do is get your research from people who are not part of the community. While the information may be valid, it’s the difference between a secondary and a primary source. It’s much better to get it from the people who live it than the people who (maybe) talked to those who lived it.
Writing about people different than you can be intimidating, but don’t let that stop you from doing it. You will get flack no matter how you write these characters, but all you can do is research and do your best to be accurate and respectful.

JUST EFF ME UP
She is made of glittering eyes and lithe lines. She commands a fire so bright, it could set the whole country ablaze. She never sat right beside your throne; there was no room for her to pace, no chance for her to roar. She leads pharaohs into battle, and you can hear her war cry, as you sit and rule, so still you fear you may become stone. But she will come back to you, and she will stay for quite some time. You should not trap a lion. A goddess made to hunt does not deal well with confinement. She leaves when you cannot, proud and harsh and beautiful. She leaves, and it is too hard to watch, so you turn away.

Faroe Islands by Julian Calverley
From the Artist: We recently spent a wonderful week on the Faroe Islands, shooting for Land Rover. These beautiful islands have an atmosphere all of their own, so when I’m asked to describe them, it’s hard to make a comparison to anywhere I’ve been previously, the only one I can come up with is a vague cross between Iceland and parts of N.W Scotland, but really it is quite unique.

The coercion and abuse that occurs to sex workers is not a symptom of the supposed inherent wrongness and depravity of sex work, it is merely a more detestable form of the coercion and abuse that occurs to all laborers under capitalism. Due to the nature of sex work, it is crueler and more violent than most other sorts, but it is the same cause. The solution is not to criminalize sex work, as we have done and continue to do, but to eradicate capitalism.
alien: wow human, you don't have a skeleton and yet you manage to stay in a fairly consistent shape. what's your secret?
