Happy National Donor Day!

Why be a Valentine when you can give so much more and be an organ donor? TODAY IS NATIONAL DONOR DAY! My papa is celebrating today at New York Presbyterian for one last day of testing before he gets his new kidney on February 26th!!!!!

That's right!! Papa is getting a kidney! His papa is giving him the gift of life AGAIN by donating his kidney. I have the best grandpa ever. We are all very excited and grateful! Especially me coz my best friend and treat giver gets to keep on giving me treats and love.

Hi Grandpa!

Hey everybody! My grandpa came to the city to visit me today!!! Ok he says he’s here for papa’s big doctor visit tomorrow but we all know it’s really because of me right?

I even got a haircut for the occasion. It’s a new do. Bit more trimmed than usual because I am getting more eye medicine than usual and need way less hair on my face.

What do you think?

Tomorrow is the first of many big and scary days for my papa. We would appreciate any loving thoughts and prayers you can spare. The whole family is working on getting the word out to find a living kidney donor for papa. A few months back, papa was at 17% kidney function. He is dialysis eligible by this point but we want to avoid complications and infections that can be caused by dialysis and give him a second chance at life with a living donor kidney. I’m treating everyday like it’s my birthday and Christmas and asking for only one gift and that is a kidney for papa.

Big Week

We have updates!!

This Thursday, I will be at doggydaycare because papa and mama will be meeting their transplant team at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. No. He does not have a donor yet. This is just to get the process started so when we do have a donor, we can tell them exactly what to expect and do in this process.

Hey everyone! Wow what a week! My t-shirts have been really getting around

I have been spotted in four different states this week! It’s been encouraging to see everyone wearing and sharing these t-shirts. I had to take a break from my schedule of napping and belly rubs to post an update and say thank you to everyone for their prayers and support.

Seeking someone with two kidneys and an enlarged amygdala

Snow days are the best!

Perfect time to snuggle up in bed and read up on kidney health and kidney donation amirite?!

Today I learned about the amygdala, the part of the brain that contributes to empathy. Fascinating.

I also learned that two kidneys have four times the capacity to keep the human body healthy and alive. So even one kidney means you still have double the capacity to stay healthy and strong.

I have concluded that papa needs to find someone with a kidney to spare and an above average amygdala. Problem solved. Can I get a treat now?

Hello MARCH!!

Happy March 1st everybody!!

March is a great month! Spring starts in March. More squirrels and birds are out for me to chase!!

There’s something called March Madness that humans get excited about

There’s the promise of 🌸cherry blossoms 🌸 and hanami which are fun flower viewing picnic parties with friends and lots of food! 🍱🥖🧀🍅🍒🍎🍓🍘🍙🍥🍤🍡🍢🥧🍰🍭🍩🍪🍻

But did you know March is also National Kidney Month?! I learned that because I’m boning up on my kidney knowledge for my papa!

My papa is just one of an estimated 26 million Americans to have kidney disease so this month isn’t just about him. Everyone should get tested and make sure you protect your kidneys!

How?

- Get tested ( go to kidney.org to find a free screening center near you)

- Reduce use of NSAIDS medicine

- Reduce processes foods

- Exercise ( easy! Just take your pup for lots of walks)

Today we went to the park to send grandma some balloons in her favorite colors up in heaven. It’s been two years since we said bye to my grandma. She has the same kidney disease papa has but was given an extra 20 years of life, love and laughter because of a transplant. Today I am wishing extra hard that papa is given the same gift of life.
