so i need to plan and execute this thing in salesforce to comply with security standards, or something.
and it seems like everyone is approaching this salesforce dilemma slightly differently in ways that make sense to them, but none of them actually make 100% sense to me. i am trying to piece together our consultant's advice / advice from assorted internet strangers who may or may not be experts / official salesforce documentation / etc but instead of reaching 100% clarity i am mostly just confused (let's say overall 50-75% understanding at best). like someone is asking me to add 1/2 + 1/3 but i don't even know what a denominator is or how to use calculator...?
to expand on the math analogy, because it feels like a good one:
what i don't know: how to add 1/2 + 1/3
what i am hearing (which, to be fair, could be different from what our consultant is actually saying): just make the denominators the same
(... which seems easy to say for someone who already knows how to add fractions?)
things i am struggling with: what is a denominator? how do you make them the same? also why?
examples of things that would be helpful to hear:
the denominator is the number at the bottom of the fraction
btw mnemonic device: denominator starts with D, D is for down
the denominators need to be the same to properly add the numerators (numbers at the top)
otherwise it'd be like the phrase "apples and oranges"
what we want is the total number of pieces of fruit
to make the denominators the same, you need to find a common multiple
the simplest way to do this is to multiply the denominators by each other (i.e. 2 x 3)
but you can't just arbitrarily change the denominator while leaving the numerator the same; that would be unbalanced
you need to multiply the numerator by the same number => so for 1/2, (1x3) / (2x3) or 1/2 * 3/3
note that 3/3 is really just another way to write 1, and multiplying by 1 doesn't change the value of the fraction
