It is without effort that Hyebin returns her friendâs irritation with a bright smile of her own, not in the least bit bothered by his banter. In fact, all that she does is place her hands over her stomach and playfully jut out her lower lip. âRight on time before I starved to death. Seungho-yah, do you still have some leftovers in the kitchen? Please?â A rather shameless question to ask, but she doesnât think much of it. She cannot even recall exactly how long it had been since the pair of them had become friends, and neither can she recall much of her life before meeting him. Out of all her friends, she was positive that she had not only known Seungho the longest, but that she had also been the closest to him. Needless to say, did not think much about being a bit late and possibly having annoyed him just a little bit. After all, that was what friends and family were for.
Another smile on her part. She nods at him, eyes quickly taking in her surroundings. Four months, and yet she had only managed to visit him at his job twice. Cons of working at the police station, she figured. âI do, and you should have one too. We havenât talked in forever and I miss you.â Maybe she was exaggerating just a little bit, but her words had been truthful nonetheless. Spending time with Seungho had always done her well, and she was dying to catch up with him. âDid you know? I caught my first criminal!â Somebody who had not parked their car in a rightful place, but who really needed to know that? It was irrelevant information. They had broken the law, and Hyebin had been there to prevent it from happening again. Disaster prevention at its finest. âWe should celebrate!â
her little âI miss youâ was a key to unlock his heart, and seungho grew up and weak against it. he returned her presence with a smile and gentle rub on her head, despite acting like he was vexed of her being earlier. he loosened the apron and folded it. âthereâs no such thing as leftover for you,â he sneered, keeping the atmosphere playful. âUncle would gladly give you the premium one. Right, Uncle?â seungho looked over his shoulder, addressing the middle-aged man behind the counter on the very back of the room. he gave the youngsters a big thumbs up, suddenly all cheery because hyebin was stopping by. luckily, she brought in a good news tonight. at least for both of them, it was something worth to be celebrated. âcongratulations! I guess coming here is the best choice you made for tonight,â he pulled a grin, beckoning toward the empty table far from the front door. it was a good spot for them to shelter from the cold weather, even though it was already spring. the round metal table was clean, with stools stacked on one corner. he took three and lined them up around the table. âwait here, Iâll bring the food for you.âÂ
even though there was an absence of each othersâ presence for two years--because of seunghoâs military service--it was easy to pick up the familiarity between them again when they made time for it. there were many gaps he wished for her to fill them in, but too many reasons for seungho to stay quiet about it. how he gained more information of his fatherâs death, and how he took the opposite path of her to find the true justice. she was a police, the exact definition of fighting crimes and injustice. meanwhile, seungho decided to work under the shadow and seek for the truth with his own method--being part of the criminals. it was a secret and the very last thing he wanted hyebin to know; seungho was into his thoughts in the backyard, preparing a jar of burning briquettes for her late dinner. he used the pincers to clamp on the heated bowl and carried it to the table in quick steps, dropping it on the hole at the center and covered it with a tray. his uncle came over with a plate of raw meat, neatly sliced with drools inducing marbles of fat and fresh flesh of quality meat. side dishes, vegetables and two shot glasses were coming after.Â
seungho took a seat next to her and immediately filled their tiny cups with clear liquid of soju. âso, what kind of crime did you block today?â
