kinds of pairings i’m all about
height differences
high contrasting designs like light and dark colors
happy one with the grumpy one
bonus points if
the grumpy one gets embarrassed by kisses
the short one is the grumpy one
the happy one’s presence makes the grumpy one really shy
holy crap, Mother of Shadows is long
Long enough to warrant
like
being its own book
Worldwide blog tour!!!
Tagged by lovedly Sorry its so late in the day!!! I had a busy one... I did like... All the things. So Britt says that the point of these posts is to talk about myself, so I guess I'll do tht!!! My name is Kieran Wisser, I'm 20, engaged to a rad dude, and I'm going to school for art and art history. I'm obsessed with European history and myth and trying to connect it to our wider worldwide understanding of our history as a species, blah blah lofty goals and world peace blah. I am typing this entire blog post on mobile for lack of wifi access since I just moved... So excuse any spelling errors! I I have published (and kept posted) one book, called Adamant, which is about a girl named Kate who finds out that her heritage is a little more divine than she thought. I'm currently working on the sequel, called Iron, which will be released in two parts on kindle this year, then as one book later on in print. Everyone else is talking about their current projects, so I'll talk about mine! These days I'm working on a novel that was initially called "Idaho is for Magicians" which follows the story of Gabe Solis, a Deaf girl who lives in rural Idaho. Gabe loses her dad and gains the hearing she has never had in one fell swoop, and resolves to get both back ASAP. The only problem? Gabe needs a teacher to get her through the secretive world of hermeticism, alchemy, and magic that her dad hid from her from all her life. She finds it in her cousin, Caelum, a "magical hipster" who attends college and volunteers at a natural history museum by day and flaunts flamboyant alchemical prowess by night. So... I guess that's it? I'm tagging authorelizabethrose, amnesiques, and cassandrajp
Kate Smyth has survived sea monsters, titans, and her own heavenly family. So what now? Well, now it's time to fight an irritated sun god...
Presented with minimal commentary :)
Hello! Long time no see…
Well, did you download Adamant only to find that it was pretty full of errors and that it was really hard for you to read because of it?
Well, I fixed it! Both the paperback and Kindle editions of the book have been edited, inside and out. They’re a lot less distracting and actually readable now :)
I can’t really help the people that have already bought the book other than to send you an updated PDF of the book if you really need a new copy and you’d like to give me and Kate another chance! Just go into the contact section of this blog and email me for a fresh PDF.

Possibilities
Today on medievalpoc we brainstormed historically accurate Asian women as Robin Hood in Medieval England, with possible Trotula the Medieval gynecologist as a Merry Woman, touched on 30 ways to become An Immortal from a non-Western perspective (including eating mermaid meat!), revisited the accurately diverse demographics of the Caribbean and possibilities thereof (including LGBT pirates), saw some average peasants of color from the Renaissance doing their peasant thing, learned about the legendary beauty of an enslaved man named Paul in Pre-Revolutionary France, attempted to clarify the sociopolitical nuances of terminology, religion and race in 16th century Spain and Portugal, and called out Gilgamesh for being a raging tryhard.
^ In one day. Which is kinda the point here-and why I can be pretty critical of how we see the same things over and over and over in Medieval style fantasy media.
No writer or creator is limited by history or “historical accuracy”.
Anything you can possibly imagine has a historical precedent.
I find that prospect absolutely thrilling, and I hope you do, too.
Agree 100% and thank you!!

Other: My favourite tragedy is Antigone and my favourite comedy is Lysistrata. My favourite Shakespeare play is Macbeth. I’m a huge fan of Proust and also Barthes, who wrote The Pleasure of the Text. I’m planning on tackling the ever daunting War and Peace this summer, along with Dante’s Divine Comedy. This and this helps me on rough days. Hope you enjoy them!

I got a REALLY REALLY helpful new review! I will definitely be taking it into account and actually just this morning wrote a conversation in Iron in which Kate's bisexuality is actually stated, word and all.
Kate identifies, like I do, as queer/bisexual, so those are the words that get used.
This is another case of me thinking that heavy hinting was enough (particularly for the audience I was shooting for), and it wasn't, and I apologize for that. As a queer woman myself, I know just how important language and terminology can be.
Also, to Lauren! (spoilers below for people that have already read)
THIS WORD IS INCREDIBLY NECESSARY

New Goodreads illustration! I enjoyed working with the limited palette, and always love painting books. Thanks Jade Change for the direction!
There is supposedly a downloadable poster version they’ll be releasing as well, so keep and eye on their site, if you’re a teacher or librarian or someone who likes books.
Also, Happy National Library Week!
Oh I love libraries.
How many pop references can I make in one post? It doesn’t matter because MY NEW BOOK IS OUT!
