I introduced myself and told him that I adored his movies, his contributions to film, because he was the first guy who really started making films about the reality of the vacuity between people, the difficulty in traversing this space between lovers in modern day ... and he never gives you an answer, Antonioni – that's the beautiful thing."

"Per quanto riguarda l’educazione dei figli, penso che si debbano insegnar loro non le piccole virtù, ma le grandi. Non il risparmio, ma la generosità e l’indifferenza al denaro; non la prudenza, ma il coraggio e lo sprezzo del pericolo; non l’astuzia, ma la schiettezza e l’amore alla verità; non la diplomazia, ma l’amore al prossimo e all’abnegazione; non il desiderio del successo, ma il desiderio di essere e di sapere."

“Let’s celebrate/This faithful/ long flirtation

They shall give us

Perhaps/ we could build

Marguerite Yourcenar (June 8, 1903 – 1987) was a French novelist. She was the first woman elected to the Académie française in 1980…

Vittorio Gassman and Catherine Deneuve are stately couple Fabio and Sofia, who live in Sofia's crumbling ancestral home in Venice.
The arrival of their teenage nephew, who is staying with them while he attends art school, brings their dysfunctionality to light: Sofia is a nervous wreck for undisclosed reasons, and her domineering husband clearly detests her.
The revelation that Fabio's insane brother lives shut in an attic room is unnerving enough - but that's only the beginning of the horrors that await the young art student.
This study of neurosis and the structures we create around it in order to function is fascinating and disturbing, and while not focused specifically on female neurosis, Catherine Deneuve's character is the perfect pallid vision of the 19th century-style 'Angel of the House'.
