She fell silent. What was the point? He had made his choice. Chris let her hands down and turned around, leaving the stock room. No, she couldn’t demand he return her feelings, it would be humiliating and pathetic. Getting back in the bar, she gathered her things and finished her drink.
Integra had overheard something she shouldn’t have. She could believe it, how could she be so stupid. How could he father be so dense. But it made sense. She just had to prove it. She spotted Chris and quickly went to her. “Chris thank God I found you. I need your help.” She pulled her outside and looked around before speaking in a hushed voice. We have a witch hiding among us, and not the good kind. I think my dad’s under a spell. I don’t trust that we aren’t being listen in on.”
Chris felt absolutely defeated. She thought if she cleared things with him and fought for him that she had a chance but he didn’t want to have anything to do with her. Still, Integra’s urgent tone intrigued her and after grabbing her bag she followed her outside.
- What? Wait… -she looked around, no one- let’s go to my jeep, it’s warded, no magic can listen to us inside.
She lead the girl to her vehicle and got inside with her, closing the windows and pressing her hand to the wheel, symbols and sygils all over the interior glowing for a second.
- Alright, what’s going on?
“I heard Emilia talking on the phone when I was coming back from the kitchen. Big Mamam had a bad feeling. I heard her talking about that she would have the books shortly.” She should tell Chris why that book bag was so important. “Or friend that was killed by that pack, he was translating an old book that has some pretty nasty magic. I think Emilia did something to Alex.”
That wasn’t really what bothered her. “Alex has been wanting to settle down for years, him and Emilia were close when I was younger. But something went down and that’s why we moved to the States. She mentioned that Alex was stupid, one mention of settling down and he was wrapped around her finger...”
When young integra first used a high powered pistol, instead of a 22. Revolver. As soon as she shot it, it flew right out of her hand and hit Alucard square in the face.

Chris clenched her teeth so hard it hurt, her fingers digging into her arms until they were white. Settling down…
- I was just away for a month and you’re already thinking of settling down with someone else… God, did I mean that little?…
Her voice was calm, disappointed. She kept her eyes on the cigarettes but took none. If she looked into his eyes now she knew she would start crying again.
- I… I thought… I’d finish this one mission and then settle down, find a real job, actually get a place of my own… I don’t want to die like my dad and be forgotten, I… -she felt a sob trapped in her throat and covered her eyes with one hand, angry that she was breaking down again- I thought I could do all that with you -she got up, shaking her head- I’m sorry, this was a terrible idea. I shouldn’t mess your life up like this.
“We agreed that if it didn’t work we wouldn’t be sad. You’re younger than me, I thought you found some young guy. Emilia mentioned it. Yes I want to settle down. But Not get married. Honestly. I just want to disappear and be forgotten.” He was so done with this life. He just wanted to find some farm and just be a hermit. “You deserve someone better than me. So does Emilia for that matter.”

She followed him and sat down when he did, rubbing the back of her neck. Finally she noticed the poor state of his knuckles and felt a pang on guilt.
- Look, I… I was in a hut this entire month, watching a pack, waiting for a certain someone to show up… and when I got in a fight my cell phone broke. Sure, I should have bought another but I couldn’t just… leave -she sighed- still, I… should have bought a spare or something, it wasn’t right, leaving you without news…Â
She folded her arms, looking straight at him, trying hard not to look angry but visibly hurt.
- I thought “I gotta do this, I gotta stay alive and go back to him” -she blushed slightly- and when I was done I was so happy to return and then…Â
Chris went silent, not knowing what else to say. She wanted to pour her heart out but it was so hard, specially now that it seemed she had lost him for another.
“I waited, I had to call in favors to find out where you were and if you were safe. Emilia came back from Scotland and we started to talking. We were engaged at some point. When you didn’t call back I thought you didn’t want me anymore.” He passed the pack of cigarettes and matches to her. He took a long drag. “She was talking about settling down. I’m getting to old to be a hunter. Hunters like you and Integra are taking my place…”
Chris clenched her teeth so hard it hurt, her fingers digging into her arms until they were white. Settling down…

The vampire cat glared at the priest before whipping out his claws and starting to scratch the furniture with a happy purr. /Serves you right, Judas Priest!/
The priest raised his brow and pushed the cat away from the couch. “Stupid cat. I don’t remember bringing you home. Did you sneak in?” He grabbed the cat and brought him to the kitchen placing a bowl of goat’s milk on the floor. “Here.”
The black cat let out a meow in protest and glared at the milk but sniffed it. He had the sudden urge to drink it so he started to lap it up. After he had his satisfaction of the goats milk he purred and rubbed himself against the priest’s legs, stretching and digging his claws into the pantleg of the blond. /Pet me!/ “Meow~ rrrr~”
The priest was eating a sandwich when he felt the claws. He looked down and picked up the cat. “You are a terror.” He sat down at the table so he could pet the cat and eat.
/Tell me about it! You’d never let me get this close if you actually knew!/ The black cat purred and licked the tip of the man’s nose. /You smell nice~/ “Mrr~” He got on the man’s shoulder and walked to the other before sitting down and licking his paws. A little bit of grooming didn’t harm anyone.
The paladin finished his food and softly petted the cat’s head before going to the sink to rise off his plate and the milk bowl. He should contact Maxwell before he got too relaxed on vacation. That man always had an extra job for him, be it a hunt or paperwork.

The girl thanked for the food and drink as usual and ate quietly while taking notes on her journal. But when she saw Anderson leaving to the back, she got up and quickly got in there as well, taking a deep breath before walking closer to him.
- Can we talk? -she spoke softly- I’m… sorry I made such a drama but when I got inside and saw you with that woman, I just… -she frowned and held her arms- can we sit down and talk? Please?… I don’t want us to be upset with each other, we spent such a good time together…
“I suppose.” He sighed and put the box down and looked over at her. “This way.” He lead her outside to where the staff smoked. There was a small table and two rickety old chairs. He sat down and started to light a cigarette. “Well, you start talking, because I really don’t know what to say right now.”

Chris paused, slowly processing the woman’s words and tone of voice. She was mocking her?… right as Chris was at her lowest?…
“…oh bitch, you did not just do that”
She took a long deep breath and looked herself up on the rearview mirror. Good thing she never wore make up. All she needed to do was comb her hair, make those twin braids she knew he liked and calm down with a cigarette.
As evening settled, she walked back into the bar, as calm as a monk about to achieve nirvana. Sitting down at her spot, she waited for either Anderson or Integra to come ask what she wanted while she casually played with her braids.
Alexander came back to the front of the bar carrying a box and wear a very tight tank top. He took off his flannel so he could actually do work without getting too hot. He smiled a little when Emilia started to flirt. But he was still not in the mood. He saw Chris and didn’t talk. He just handed her usual food and drink. He looked like he had been punching a wall by the bruises on his knuckles. He walked back to the back of the bar to get more stock. Emilia huffed. “Well this is goin’ poorly.”

Christian was startled by the knock on her window, trying to clean her tears as quickly as she could with her hands before she realized who it was. Pausing, she stared confused at the redhead before pulling the window down.
- Lady, I’m sorry, I know this is none of your business and you got caught in this shit but right now I rather not… talk to you -she rubbed her forehead, feeling an oncoming headache- and there’s no way in Hell I’m going back in there.
She couldn’t stand look at him, it just hurt. Seeing him like that, all dumb and smiley with someone else… just thinking about it made her feel sick.
- M’sorry, I’ll just go back to my place and get out of your hair… obviously I expected too much, it’s my fault…
“Well now lass, Ah’m truly am sorry. Ah guess Ah’ll leave ye be. Ah understand that a child’s heart is a fragile un,” Emilia smiled and walked back inside. Alexander needed a real woman not a child hunter. Pity, Sawney had been in such a good. Especially after she said she was reconsidering his offer. But the blond was a hopeless romantic. One mention of marriage and he was wrapped around her finger.
Chris paused, slowly processing the woman’s words and tone of voice. She was mocking her?… right as Chris was at her lowest?…

- My phone got fucked during a fight, you… you moron!!!
She yelled back at him, every single patron in the bar watching the fight going. Fights were nothing new but this was Anderson and the new girl and it looked really serious.
Chris felt horrible. Flustered, tears running down her cheeks and her hair falling over her face. Humiliated and hurt, she left back to the jeep, getting inside and struggling to get the key in place before quitting and hitting the steering wheel with her hands.
- Stupid, stupid stupid stupid!
The red head and heard the fight and now understood. She snuck away to go speak with this woman. She found the poor girl crying in a Jeep. She knocked on the window with a small smile. “Lass, Ah’m terribly sorry. May Ah speak with ye. Ye are so upset, let meh explain. Come inside and we can speak over some tea.” Emilia smiled and tried to be civil, for Sawney’s sake.
Christian was startled by the knock on her window, trying to clean her tears as quickly as she could with her hands before she realized who it was. Pausing, she stared confused at the redhead before pulling the window down.

“That would be great, thank you so much.” The platinum blonde smiled and started to talk to the hunter about her research on different demons.
Alexander smiled at the two woman and looked at the priest. “You said you just came back from a hunt. You look like you went to hell and back, what were you hunting?” He handed other patrons their drinks and helped Big Mama with bringing out some food.
Ambrosine sat there, listening and nodding intently to Integra talking about her research. She was very impressed by all of it. It was almost as good as her father’s. She also enjoyed the passion Integra had for it. It made her smile to see someone to dedicated to the job.Â
The priest scratched his head and sighed. “Yeah, well, we were on the assumption that the changelings were in small numbers. But, we were not so right on the numbers…And the mother was-” He cleared his throat, trying to restrain himself from saying anything too foul. “Quite the challenge.”Â
“That’s never good.” He looked at the priest and reached under the bar to pull of the first aid kit. “If you need it. How about I get you two a Po’Boy.” He went to the kitchen at request an order from Big Mama.
“Oh, well thank you.” He was taken by surprised by the blond’s hospitality, for it was like he wanted to kill them earlier. Strange guy. He took a gulp from his beer before turning to his partner.
“Okay, kiddo. Damage report.”
Ambrosine perked up at attention and looked over at the priest. She nodded before turned back into Integra.
“Just give me a second.” She sat closer to Dimitrios as he opened the first aid kit, pulling out gauzes, tape and rubbing alcohol wipes.Â
“Let’s see the hands first.”Â
The blond hunter looked up and threated a few patrons that were getting a little too aggressive. He grabbed the two hunters and threw them out. He made sure they went safely in other directions. He came back to the bar and looked at the other patrons, who all calmed down.
Ambrosine and Dimitrios watched the display, seeming unphased by the violence, as they seen this before. Shrugging, the priest takes his partner’s hands, inspecting the busted and bleeding knuckles.
“I told you to wrap up before you use your brass knuckles.” His brows knitted together as inspected her face intently. Nothing too bad, a couple of bruises here or there but nothing too bad.Â
“I’ll check the rest when we go to the hotel.”
He looked back at Alexander, cocking a brow. Strong guy. It was kinda impressive. It was actually hot- Wait, no. Not this- well actually let’s just roll with it this time.
“Got it covered there?”
“Yea, don’t worry about it. I don’t tolerate this sort of thing.” Fighting was normal, but when it came to putting others in danger he had no tolerance for it. It was immature at best. He smiled at them and sighed. “Well if you need anything, let me know.”

She stared at him in disbelief. He was acting as if they had never dated in the first place! At least that’s how she saw things. Getting up, she threw the keys at him and slapped her hands on the counter, literally fuming, her eyes glowing.
- Really?! All it took was me leaving for a bit and you forget we were dating?! I know what we agreed on but it didn’t take you long to move on, now did it?!
She hated him so much right now, she felt so hurt, so disappointed. Grabbing her journal, she shot him the nastiest glare she could muster.
- Â I really thought you were special.
And with that she stormed out of the bar and stood by her jeep, kicking the back wheel a few times before the tears finally came out.
Alexander walked out, yelling. “Why the hell are you so pissed?! I get no phone calls, no replies to my texts. And you have the nerve to say I forgot.” He turned and went back to the bar. He was silent, not even talk to Integra or the red haired beauty.
“Sawney?”
“Nae. Ah don’t want teh talk!” He growled. She had some nerve. He had tried to keep in contact. He guess the life of the hunter was more important than he was.
