I think a very strong argument can be made that "not all monsters do monstrous things" is in fact if not the thesis statement of teen wolf, at least one of the most significant of its thesis statements and it's fascinating to me that it's given to Lydia. Scott is introduced to the monstrous by becoming it, he faces the evil of it through the trauma of being turned but simultaneously he has to face the good because he is good, or trying to be, so it has to be. Stiles is introduced to the monstrous through his best friend, he learns about it through love, not fear, he falls asleep researching because he loves his friend. Allison is introduced to it through the boy she loves and that's almost not enough, the loss of her mother and Gerard's manipulation almost pushes her too far but the boy she loves was enough so of course she too has a foundation of trust there. Lydia is introduced to the monstrous through destruction after destruction and terror after terror. She is bitten and left for dead. She hallucinates, knowing her family has a history of psychosis. She is groomed and assaulted by the man who almost killed her before, and forced to raise him from the dead. She has to see her best friend die, her lover die, but more than this she has to see strangers die, even when she knows nothing she's the one who finds the bodies. For Lydia, a banshee with the history she has, the monstrous IS death. Yet the ultimate moment of faith is given to her, the story shows her mercy. She isn't destroyed by what she witnesses, she's saved by so much good. When Scott says to her get me the time and I'll do something about it, he's saying we can take your powers of a monster meant solely to lead to death and use them to save those people. She's given the grace time and time again that, by the end, she can look at everything, at everything terrible and terrifying that happened to her, and still say that's not all it is, that will never be all there is.
