he listens as she rambles out more turtle facts, his lips curled into the faintest of smiles. he can't help but admire the way that she seems to glow from the inside out. he loves the way her smile seems to chase away the ever present fog in his mind, bringing him a clarity that he hasn't known in so long. his gaze lingers briefly on an errant strand of hair that falls into her eyes and his fingers twitch in his lap, wanting nothing more than to reach out and gently push it back.

but then her question about demons and skin snaps him out of his thoughts. his brow furrows slightly, head canting to the left as he thinks it over. "i...don't know. personally, i never have." his shoulders lift into a slight shrug. "can't answer for the others, though." he watches her warily, a part of him scared that she would be upset that he didn't know. he hadn't really had any friends before the saja boys, so he didn't know about the other demons and what their skin shedding abilities were.

zoey  nods,  eyes  sparkling  as  he  talks  -  she  feels  like  they  know  so  very  little  about  demons.  any  bit  of  information  is  more  than  she'd  had  before  (  not  that  it  matters  much,  not  when  turtle  facts  are  on  the  line;  besides,  he's  probably  harmless  right  now.  probably.  hopefully?  )

“  well,  there  goes  my  theory  that  demons  are  just  turtles,  ”  she  jokes,  giving  him  a  slightly  awkward,  sheepish  smile,  her  fingers  catching  in  the  back  of  her  hair  before  settling  on  the  back  of  her  neck.  “  obviously,  unlike  turtles,  demons  can  change  their  appearance  …  i  don't  think  turtles  can.  if  they  can,  we  definitely  don't  know  about  it.  maybe  tortoises  can  …  those  sneaky  lil  guys  …  did  you  know  tortoises  are  the  longest  living  land  animals?  i  guess  that's  kind  of  off  topic,  haha.  ”

she  pauses,  something  apologetic  crossing  her  features.  “  sorry,  i  keep  talking  all  over  you,  i'm  sure  you've  got  a  lot  of  things  you  know  a  million  facts  about  that  i  don't.  ”

she's  been  stranded  for  hours.  really,  it  IS  her  fault,  she  should've  charged  her  phone  before  she  left  -  but  she  didn't  think  she'd  be  out  this  long  (  …  )  how  could  she  have  known?!  okay,  sure,  her  phone's  died  before,  but  like  -  do  you  really  expect  the  car's  gonna  break  down  in  the  middle  of  nowhere? 

zoey's  eyeliner's  smudged,  her  bucket  hat  the  only  thing  shrouding  her  face  from  the  blistering  heat  of  the  sun.  she's  stuck  on  the  side  of  the  road,  the  only  thing  the  driver  had  managed  to  do  before  the  car  engine  had  gone  kaput.  and  of  course  her  driver  had  bounced  (  or  more  accurately,  he  went  to  search  for  the  nearest  town.  )  but  she's  starting  to  run  out  of  water,  &  out  of  patience  to  wait  for  help  (  …  )  soooo,  what  if  she  just  …  goes  looking  for  help  herself?  or  at  least  a  place  to  charge  her  phone?

which  is  how  she  ends  up  down  a  winding  path  &  ending  up  in  front  of  a  beautiful  little  farm.  bad  people  don't  usually  live  in  farms,  right?  only  one  way  to  find  out,  she  supposes,  &  heads  up  to  the  door,  steeling  herself  before  raising  her  hand  to  knock  on  the  front  door.

fresh  off  the  success  of  a  massive  world  tour  &  5th  idol  awards  win,  the  announcement  of  HUNTR/X's  very  own  rapper  &  songwriter,  zoey,  coming  out  with  her  own  SELF-TITLED  SOLO  ALBUM,  came  as  a  bit  of  a  shock.  HUNTR/X  has  confirmed  that  the  band  is  not  breaking  up,  but  that  some  of  them  are  trying  out  solo  projects  to  keep  things  interested.  we  all  look  forward  to  ZOEY,  out  8/8.

she  looks  down  at  him,  pupils  blown  wide  with  lust  -  his  hair  is  mussed  up  from  when  her  hands  had  been  tangled  within,  her  own  surely  matching.  zoey  grins  to  mimic  his  smirk,  straddling  him,  her  thighs  bracketing  his  hips  as  she  gently  grinds  down  against  him,  a  quiet  noise  slipping  through  her  teeth  (  she's  never  been  very  quiet.  )  heat  swells  within  her  belly,  low  but  steadfast,  &  she  looks  at  him  through  the  shroud  of  her  eyelashes.  “  i  wouldn't  lie,  ”  she  says,  as  if  the  idea's  ridiculous  to  her,  as  if  she's  almost  offended,  but  the  grin  spread  across  her  lips  is  proof  enough  that  it's  bordering  on  a  joke. 

“  i  know  what  i  want.  ” one  of  her  hands  moves  to  cover  his  own  for  a  moment,  fingers  splayed  open  over  his  hand  against  her  waist.  she  could  be  quick,  get  herself  out  of  her  clothes  -  he  doesn't  even  have  to  be  fully  naked  for  this,  does  he?  there's  something  about  that  thought  that  shoots  a  jolt  of  electricity  through  her.  no,  he  has  a  good  body,  she  wants  to  see  it.

“  you  have  too  many  clothes  on  ...  ”

he's sitting on the sofa near zoey, long legs tucked beneath him as a documentary about turtles plays on the television. he's been sitting there in perfect silence for a little more than an hour, contentedly watching the documentary and barely even moving. he's been paying close attention, finding it interesting because zoey is interested in it. he tries to remember through the haze that has clouded his mind for so long if human him had liked turtles, but it was no use. the information consistently evaded his grasp just as it always does. the documentary comes to an end and his gaze shifts over to zoey, a sudden feeling of awkwardness seizing him. he finally says, "that was a good documentary. i-i didn't know that turtles were so interesting."

zoey's  sitting  criss-cross  applesauce  on  the  couch,  leaning  forward  &  watching  the  tv  screen  -  her  eyes  keep  flickering  back  over  towards  mystery,  checking  to  make  sure  he's  still  interested.  her  heart  feels  like  it's  beating  a  million  miles  an  hour  (  …  )  augh,  damn  demon  boys  being  cute.  but,  well.  here  she  is.  how'd  everything  in  her  life  line  up  to  get  her  here?

“  yeah,  did  you  know  they  have  super  good  color  vision?  ‘cause  their  eyes  produce  this  special  oil  for  their  retinas.  and  a  turtle’s  shell  grows  with  them  -  they  can't  actually  leave  it,  like  how  we  can't  really  leave  our  skin.  wait,  can  demons  leave  their  skin?  can  you  just  walk  out  of  it?  ”

they've  been  talking  about  themes  for  the  comeback  album  for  hours,  &  the  only  thing  zoey  is  sure  about  is  that  it's  going  to  be  about  ‘  uncovering  who  you  really  are.  ’  probably.  maybe.  if  they  can  get  past  the  concepts  (  …  )  which  feels  impossible  right  now!

“  okay,  okay,  rumi,  what  if  …  what  if  we  did  like,  a  stained  glass  motif?  or  something  angel-y?  like  we  have  fluffy  white  wings  &  the  concept  is  like,  we've  ascended  because  of  how  good  we've  been  protecting  the  world  …  ” 

she  pauses,  looking  over  towards  @hunteridol,  &  zoey's  voice  goes  a  little  softer.  “  are  you  okay?  i  don't  think  you've  said,  like,  anything  in  the  past  hour.  ” / ♡
