1. What does the word ‘family’ mean to you?

Family means a group of people who, unconditionally, love and support you no matter what— possibly even more than that. Blood related or not, family love is an unbreakable connection.

2. Do you have a healthy relationship with your family?

I do have a healthy relationship with my family! I wouldn’t know how to explain my relationship with my mother and father.. our relationship goes beyond family. We’re almost like friends— it’s weird but I think that’s something that I love the most.. I can feel comfortable and talk about anything with them. As for my younger siblings, we all get along great.. for the most part. My sister that is a year younger than me, we tend to butt heads sometimes because we’re much closer in age. But with my other sisters, we get along great and they’re always supporting me when they’re at school. ㅋㅋ Our number one luvies who always brag about Red Velvet with their classmates.

3. Do they attend concerts/watch broadcasts?  

My family does attend my concerts and watch Red Velvet’s broadcasts— especially our radio interviews. After our first concert, I will never forget how proud my parents were. Seeing them in the crowd and seeing them backstage, the first thing I did was thank them for accepting my dream and giving me that opportunity to audition. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have been able to be apart of such a great team/family and have fans like our Reveluvs. With broadcasts, my parents always find a way to embarrass/make fun of me. I remember when Sooyoung unnie and I were on V-Live and my mom sent in a comment saying, “Hey Ugly Squirtle.” I never felt so embarrassed in my life. Another time I remember is when we were on a radio broadcast and my members started laughing so hard. I couldn’t understand why until they pointed it out on the screen for me. It was my dad saying, “Yah, Kim Yerim, are you sleepy?”

4. Were they supportive of your choice to become an idol? 

My parents were very supportive of my decision. Like any parent, they were shocked at first but seeing how determined I was at a young age, they softened up to the idea and supported me to chase after my dream. My mom even did my hair for my audition! She wanted me to look my best and stand out amongst the others ~ ㅎㅎ

5. What sacrifices did your parents make for you if any? 

My parents made many sacrifices for me. Any parent wishes for their child to go after a stable career such as a doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc. but I was a child who set her heart on becoming a singer. At first, my parents were unsure because they wanted what was best for me and they feared to see me struggle later on in life, but after they saw the amount of research I did and how focused I was in practicing, they saw how much potential I had and admired their daughter for being so set on a career she finally found love in.

7. Do you enjoy speaking about your family to the public?

As much as I wish to speak about my family to the public, I am also very protective of them and I wish for them to have their privacy.

8. Are you someone who is ashamed of your family, or accepting?

I am someone who is never ashamed of my family. From the bottom of my heart, I love my family so much— no matter how embarrassing they can be.

9. Has there ever been a huge conflict between any of you?

Aside from my mother constantly reminding me to take better care of myself, there’s nothing that comes to mind.

10. Have your members met any of your family members? What were your families first impressions?

My members have met my family members, yes! My parents loves my members like they are their own daughters. My mother, especially, has a deep respect and love for Joohyun unnie for always looking after me and taking care of me since I was young. My sisters.. they also love Joohyun unnie because she is the only one who spoils them often.

11. If you don’t live with your members, do you live with your family, or alone?

No, I do not live with my family or alone. I live with my members in our dorm but on holidays, I do go back home and spend time with my family.

1. What do you see your fans as?

To me, Luvies are more than just our fans. They are our family, our number one loves, our happiness. Whenever I am going through a difficult time in my life, I remember that I have luvies by my side, supporting me with their words and reminding me that they will always be by my side. That it is okay to rest if I’m tired, to not get sick, to always be happy. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be the happy, healthy, and positive Yerim I am today. 

2. Are you thankful for them?

I am more than thankful for them. If there is anything more stronger than being thankful, that is how I feel towards Reveluvs. I find it really adorable though.. I think luvies are the people who know me better than anybody else. Although I am not very good at expressing how I feel, they understand that I am forever grateful to have them in my life and continue to cheer me on. This relationship we have.. it goes beyond words. We are connected through our feelings and this bond is something I will dearly cherish for the rest of my life.

3. Do you lurk on your tags online much? (if you do) what is something you’ve seen your fans do while lurking on social?

Luvies know that I am a social media fanatic! ㅎㅎ I do nothing but scroll through all the social media apps I have downloaded and, of course, how could I not scroll through my own? I love seeing how creative and funny our luvies are. Whether I am having a dull or slow day at schedules or just resting in my bed at home, their posts always make my day so much brighter. As for what my fans post on SNS, it always consists of memes from my lives or interviews, how I always bully/tease my members, and their beautiful art of myself and/or Red Velvet.

4. What do you think of fans that put down other artist to raise you up?

I have seen some Luvies who send those sort of mean comments and I would like to tell that it breaks my heart to see them say such things. I know that they would do anything to support me and it means the world to me but those other artists support me as well and some of them are either my close personal friends or seniors/juniors that I have so much respect for. Instead of supporting me in that way, it would make me even happier to see my fans support both myself and the other artists.

5. What is something that annoys you that your fans do?

I would never say that Luvies annoy me in any way, shape or form. Instead, there is only one thing that worries me that they do and it’s putting me before themselves. Just like how they want me to take care of myself, I wish that they do the same. There are some situations where some of our schedules clash with Luvies’ schedules and we aren’t able to meet.. but I want them to continue to focus on work and school and put that first. There will be many other days where we can meet each other and have fun. Please keep working hard at your job or focusing on your studies and I will continue to work hard with you! The number one priority for me is our Luvies’ success! ^^

6. Many companies do not allow their artist to engage in fan-wars between two fan-bases, if you had the chance to - what is something you wish you could say to them? especially if they are fighting your friends group, fan-base?

Like I stated in the previous question, I wish to tell them that although it means the world to hear that they will do anything to support Red Velvet, the other artist group support Red Velvet as well and some of them are either our close friends or seniors/juniors that we very much respect. Both groups love and cherish our fanbases very much and it breaks our hearts to see them fighting and putting us against each other. While supporting us, it makes us even happier to see our luvies cheer on the other group and their fanbase as well! 

7. What is something memorable your fans have done for you?

There is a certain time a fan has done something for me and I will never forget it. A fan left me a long comment of Instagram one day and I remember how touched I felt that day. It was as if my wall that tried so hard to conceal all of my worries and concerns came crashing down and I couldn’t help but tear up while reading it. All the things I thought about, all the words I wished to convey to someone.. it was like they read my mind and it brought me instant comfort. They were the exact words I needed/wanted to hear. “Yerim-ah, I love you. More than a hundred hurtful words, I hope one beautiful word touches your heart more. I want to give you pretty and nice things only but there are a lot of bad people in this world. But more than those people, please know that there are more people who love you. Please, I sincerely hope you only see the pretty and wonderful words. We are careful with every word we say and it's really hard but I think there are still people who talk easily in this world. I want to say more things to you but I'm scared I might unintentionally hurt you, Yerim-ah. I will always love and support you always, anytime, anywhere, in any moment, in any place. I love whatever you do. Just like now, do whatever you want to do, eat lots of delicious food, sleep well, have good dreams only. I'm thinking about you a lot. Always, in every moment. 8. Do you care much about how big your fan-base is, or could you care less?

It doesn’t matter how big a fanbase is. What matters is that we’re all together, loving and supporting each other no matter what. A fanbase is much more to us than just a big group of our fans. They are people who have been with us since day one— they are our family.

9. If you had something to tell your fans right now, without any restrictions, what would you say?

I have said all I wanted to say to Luvies. As if restrictions can stop Kim Yerim.. ㅋㅋ But there is one thing I want to remind them and I will continue to do that until the day the world ends: This is not a one-sided love.

10. Are you the type to take gifts from fans? (if not) why not?

Of course I am! There are many types of gifts that Luvies have given me at fansignings or at the airport and I always cherish them! 

11. What is something you could do for your fans to thank them?

I wish I was able to take everyone out and spend time with them on my free days. Like regular friends, we could go to the movies or spend time together somewhere— maybe at a library, cafe, or park. Some place where we can all get to know each other personally. I wish I could do that and thank each and every one of them individually.

Ideal/Celebrity Type?

Right now, I don’t have a set type. When I was younger, there were certain traits I would hope my significant other would have but I just never saw the point in having a set ideal type. However, if I ever would date someone, I would want them to be very gentle, wary of my feelings, and have lots in common with me. As for celebrities, the only celebrity crush I ever had was Jo Insung. I consider him very handsome. ㅎㅎㅎ

Tall or Short 

I never thought of height as an issue because I am pretty short myself and just about everyone I know is taller than me, aside from Chaeyoungie. But if I had to choose, I’d want them to be taller— just not too tall. 

Cute or Sexy 

I wouldn’t want my partner to be too sensitive and I find it cringeworthy when people are too sexy. Is it possible to answer in between? Having a little bit of both would be nice!

Long hair or Short hair

It varies. I don’t like hair that is too long, nor do I like hair that is too short. Again, I’m going to have to answer in between. 

Hoobae or Sunbae 

Status and age don’t matter to me when it comes romantic preference. If we have genuine feelings for each other, why does it matter?

Long Legs or Pretty Smile

Pretty smile. Like I said earlier, I wouldn’t want my partner to be too tall. I would rather feel my heart flutter when I see them give me a smile that they only give me.

Commoner or Celebrity

Again, it doesn’t matter to me. As long as we have genuine feelings towards one another, that is all I care about.

Banmal or Jondaetmal  

Banmal. If my partner and I begin to speak informally to each other, it makes me realize how close we really are and, truthfully, it would make my heart race like crazy. I already love it when my loved ones call me Yerim-ah than Yeri or Yeri-ssi.. what more when I have someone I have feelings for?

Does this mean traditional or modern? I would prefer traditional dating/relationships but with the exception of working and finances.

Independent or Dependent

I would want my significant other to be independent. I would want a interdependent relationship where we’re on the same page and good together, while also being good on our own. I don’t find it healthy (nor does it sound healthy) if one person in the relationship relies on the other for every one of their wants/needs.

I have many reasons why I consider my career path to be fun but if I had to choose one, it has to be getting the opportunity to travel all over the world. The members and I get to visit countries we’ve always dreamed of visiting AND we get to meet/be with all of our international luvies.

I wouldn’t want to change anything about my career path. Yes, there were times where I often struggled but those troubles made me stronger. I learned and made mistakes throughout the years since I’ve debuted and I don’t regret them. I’m proud to say that I’m happy and satisfied with who I am today. In the process, I received the greatest gift in the world— our dearest Luvies.

A place you really want to perform at

I would like to perform in Europe. Even if we visited Europe for Level Up, We haven’t gotten the chance to have a tour in Europe. (Besides, I would like to invite my boyfriend, Eric too)
