At– some hotel. I’ll ask Charlie. It’s one of those fancy gala things. I don’t know how fun it’ll be, but I’m supposed to wear a really nice dress, and there’ll be lots of champagne.
Any chance Charlie’s plus one gets a plus one? As in, any chance there’s something in it for moi?
Honey, if you think the morning after three guys will be pretty, think again. I’ll have to loan you my yoga membership.
I thought you’d never ask! You won’t believe the party Charlie invited me to.
Ohhh, a party! Where? You know how much I love to dance.
What’s more depressing than being single for the holidays? I’ll take the book if that means having a rich date.
Being single means fucking three guys on Christmas eve and still getting to sleep in the next day.
By the way, what are you doing on New Year’s Eve?
My gift? He’s lucky to get a handjob at this rate.
See, that’s why you should always end it before the holidays start. Before they have time to fuck up your Christmas break.
This fashion photography book– or something. I was confused, because it wasn’t sparkly and it didn’t look gold or silver, so…. He said something about ‘limited edition’. Whatever that means.
Oh my god. Bubbles, you’re terrible. I’m sure you made up for it giving him your xmas gift.
Wait? What did he get you for Christmas?

At the airport, Kimi flips through a magazine in the gift shop, Valentine's Day decorations adorning every shelf, table, and face of the store. Red hearts, white ribbon, sparkling pink letters strung together to spell 'Be Mine?', and all the works. Though the holiday was usually one of her favourites, it went without saying that her feelings were quite the reverse this time around. Love was not in the air, she thought bitterly, nor would it be again in the foreseeable future. She sighed, placed the magazine back on the rack, and checked her phone for the time.
Some things ended in fire, some things in ice, and then there were others that managed to end in both. Her time in Fontana, it seemed, had fallen into the latter category. She'd left the shambles of her life here right where they had fallen, walked away from one of the only men she'd ever loved, and she was moving on. She told herself she was, at least, but that had been before she'd gone to the clinic with the money he'd given her. She'd meant to do it, she really had, but she couldn't. No matter how angry she was, how lost she felt, she loved the child. And she believed she could figure it out.
Kimi had called her brother, then her dad, eventually having a stiff conversation with her mother. They'd got her a plane ticket, agreed that she would stay with Enoch until she...figured out the rest. It was odd, Kimi felt; she was returning to the place she had run from, and of her own volition. Maybe it had taken a form of tragedy in her personal life to push her to this point, but it was where she was now, and she couldn't deny that she was happy to be returning home.
She boards the plane a few moments later; coach as opposed to the first class flights she was used to. Kimi didn't mind. She was shedding all of that from her like a second skin, and she felt rejuvenated, like she'd been held under water for too long and was just now coming up for air.
The plane took off, as did her plans. She was moving farther away from her problems, moving towards her absolution.
He didn’t know who V was, but he already didn’t like the asshole. He didn’t understand. Any man would be lucky to have a baby by Kimi. Not only because of how beautiful he or she would turn out, but because she was a great person. He felt himself getting protective over her. “And what did he make clear? That he would hurt you?” He asked, believing that this was something he could solve easily. “You can still take care of it here. Find a new place, hell, I’ll help you look. You can still disappear in this town. You don’t have to see this.. V anymore. ” When he finished speaking, he swallowed hard. Finding the selfishness of what he was saying. Having a baby and hiding, away from family. It seemed hardly the life to live.
"It's not that," she says, trying to explain something she didn't truly understand to someone who would have no way of grasping what she was saying. "I'm not afraid of him. Not that way, at least." She pushes some hair behind an ear and says, "He told me he'd take my baby." She lets the words sink in before sighing, "And he'd get away with it. On paper, he looks better than I do." She fixes her eyes to Warren's now and adds, "But only on paper."
"I get what you're saying, Warren, I honestly do, but it just won't work," she shakes her head, elaborating on all that she's already thought. " I don't have a job, or an income. Everyone who would've looked after me won't when I'm in this state. I don't even have an address. There's nothing here that would make my life or this child's any easier. Only more difficult." She gulps, wipes a tear from her face, is determined it'll be her last until she gets back to Philadelphia. "I ran away once before. Here. This was my escape." She shakes her head now, " But I'm not running away this time. I'm running towards something. I'm running home." She looks at him, "Do you understand?"
"What?" He said even though he heard her loud and clear. He cracked a small smile to lighten the mood. "This is good news, Kim. That doesn’t mean leave". He looked at her. "You can stay"
She laughs mirthlessly, shakes her head. "No it's, it's not like that." She clears her throat, tears rolling down her cheeks. "V...he, he doesn't want it. And he's...made it clear what he'll do if I go through with it." She shakes her head again, wipes at her tears. "I was going to...take care of it, but I...I couldn't. So, I'm just going to get gone."
"It's not like there's anything left for me here, anymore."
"What, Kimi?" He asked, looking at her, hoping for an answer that he knew he would be able to solve.
"I..." she pauses, tucks a lock of hair behind her ear, and says it out loud. " I'm pregnant."
Warren looked at her, standing in front of her to get a good look. Making sure he heard her right. “What?” He exclaimed. “Why? Where are you gonna go?” He looked down. He didn’t understand.
"Something's come up," she says with a disheartening shrug, her eyes glossing over a little. "I'm going back to Philly, staying with my brother there until I..."
I bet you’re the life of the party. My reputation? Oh, you should know those aren’t always accurate. Please, enlighten me, what are the whispers of the town saying this time around? [Cue the arrogant smirk.] Then perhaps you should have kept your mouth shut in the first place?
Nothing you haven't heard before, I'm sure. But that doesn't really matter; least of all to me. [Kimi's face brightens with a faux, overly-enthusiastic smile of her own.] Never been one of my strong suits.
