Atemu had been sitting across the street in a book store, reading one of his new purchases in the little coffee shop attached to it. But for about three hours, his attention had been constantly divided. It all started when the young man had walked by and crossed the street to go to the eatery there.
Nothing was amiss with that of course. It was just that the spiked hair so similar to his own and the big violet eyes had caught his attention and hadn’t let go. Try as he might to get back to his book and forget about the other male, he would still find his attention being drawn back to him again and again.
There was even a few times when he didn’t realize he was looking again until he snapped out of whatever daze he found himself in and forced himself to look back at his book.
Now here it was three hours later and he still had only managed to get through another few pages. But he told himself the reason for that wasn’t so much the other man himself, but the fact that he seemed to be getting more and more distraught as time went on.
There could only be one reason for that, that he could tell and judging by the faces of other people he saw through the window of that restaurant, they knew it too. He’d been stood up. Poor guy.
And he could tell that the other male knew it just like everyone else and yet he still sat there. Likely from humiliation or something and if that was the case..well he couldn’t just sit there any longer and do nothing about it. If he could somehow turn the young man’s evening around too, then that made what he was about to do all the better.
But one thing at a time, he had to get people to stop looking at him with pity. The boy looked - understandably so - uncomfortable thanks to those stares. So the Egyptian male stood from his seat, put his book in his satchel bag and stored them in his car which was parked in front of the book store. He quickly made his way across the street after, into the restaurant and to the table the other unknown male was sitting at.
Now hopefully I don’t come off as a creeper by doing this.
Atemu shook the thought from his head though and made his breathing quicker as if he’d been rushing before sliding into the seat across from the paler of the two of them.
“Hey babe, sorry I’m so late. It got hella busy at work. Boss cracked down on all of us and wouldn’t let us leave or use our phones. I was only just now able to get free.”
As he was scooting his chair up, he used the opportunity to whisper to the other man.
“Sorry if this is awkward but I saw your predicament. My name’s Atemu, just go with it okay?”
To say he’d been looking forward to this evening for a bit now was an understatement. He’d been so excited to have this little date, he’d dressed in something brand new and had even worn a new cologne for this. He had really outdone himself for this.
It was cold outside but the place the date was to take place was nice and warm and full of people with a lively atmosphere, it only made his mood for the evening skyrocket. That happy and excited mood that had been son high did not stick around for the entire evening, his evening actually went sour.
His date was running late. A few minutes at first which he could excuse, then thirty minutes, then an hour. He texted and got no replies, just saw the nice little read icon on the text. Maybe the other was busy but he really knew it wasn’t the case, deep down inside he already knew he was being stood up. Still, he’d give it a few more minutes.
Two hours in and he felt absolutely humiliated, so humiliated that he feared even getting up from the table and being looked at with so much pity so he sat there even longer, another solid hour longer and the pitying stares were becoming so overwhelming, he thought it’d get better as time passed but instead it go worst and there was still no texts back or any kind of calls.
His cheeks were burning with embarrassment over his situation. He felt like an idiot. He should’ve known it’d come to this, this was something that had to do with him after all. He wanted to leave, he wanted to go home and pretend this never happened and delete that number right out of his phone but he just couldn’t move because then someone would approach him, would be pitying him and that’d only make him feel worst.
Head snaps up at the sound of the voice, his eyes going wide and searching this complete strangers face for a long moment as the words fall from those unfamiliar lips. Was this...A stranger that really wanted to help, that wasn’t full of pitying glances and hushed whispers about him? He takes in a shaky breath and nods his head at the second set of words.
He pushes a smile to his face, though it hasn’t quite made it to his eyes. His voice is a little shaky at first as he finally speaks. “That’s alright, babe. It happens. Your boss is a real jerk sometimes though. Knowing people have plans and holding them up.” He played along, hoping people’s stares would stop, hoping the hushed whispers would stop. Though that ‘babe’ rolled off his tongue a little awkwardly.
He leans in close so he too can whisper in return. “T - Thank you. It’s not that awkward, I’ve been in more awkward situations as you just saw before you showed up. But seriously, thank you. My name is Yuugi. Nice to meet you, Atemu.”
