Forest Prayers | Christian and Indira
Indira had spent the evening listening to one of the maids trying to convince her to dispose of her saris and wear the fashions the noblewomen wore. She knew the girl meant well, but she had her own reasons. Her clothes were a reminder of who she was,her armor, and that she was only a visitor in this country. On one hand she was a foreign widow, a little girl without a country,a home or a protector.
Yet on the other side of that half truth, she was a little girl with a large sum of money, gifts that came from her gods, and no true ties to any ruler. So little girls like her without a country would build empires in the dark and build up and beyond, never crumbling.
The cost of such an empire was allies and blood which was why after shooing away the maid, Indira retreated to the woods and performed a protection spell to ease her mind by shedding her blood. During the ritual she heard voices, pagan prayers that brought her peace. The voice sounded familiar… Indira pulled her sleeve down over her bleeding arm, waited for a moment before following the voice all the way to the stables. She was taken by complete surprise to see that it was King Christian. Was he a pagan? There was only one way to find out.
Indira put down her hood and bobbed a quick curtsy." Your Majesty. It is a beautiful night is it not? I was on my way from a walk in the woods. I could have spent the whole evening there except I heard the strangest thing, but I will not burden you with my silly talk."
Christian was startled to see the grand duchess up at such a late hour and in the stables as well. Her words were more alarming. There was something about the way she had said about her walk in the woods made Christian's heart briefly stop. "The blood woods?" Christian asked as he put his horse back and took off all the equipment. "Its not a safe to venture out to, even more so at night." He wanted to ask about the words that she had heard but if he had pressed her too much then he would make it clear that it was possibly him that had uttered those pagan prayers.
"I doubt a woman like you has ever had something like silly talk." He wasn't flirting, or charming her, he was simply trying to compliment her but given the situation, it probably wasn't the best thing to do. Christian moved closer to the grand duchess and noticed a bit of blood hitting the floor. "Grand duchess Indria are you hurt? You seem to bleeding." Christian was more cautious now. He had heard that the blood pagans were possibly in the castle but he could not even think that a grand duchess was one... "Why were you in the blood wood and why are you bleeding?"
