The thick frame of Ed’s glasses slid down to the crease of his nose. Ed had grown accustomed to being surrounded by ignoramuses, but relished in the notion of someone intellectually balanced to him; much like his former best friend Oswald, whom he had no memory of. Ed’s riddles and fascinating facts he held, had always gone unnoticed, especially at work. Lifting his right hand, Edward pushed his glasses up to rim of his nose. For several days counting, his mind seemed muddled, as if he were missing immense pieces, like a riddle that had gone unsolved. Ed’s coffee-colored eyes turned their glance towards the other whom was standing adjacent to him. A perplexed expression stretched across the bridge of Ed’s face while listening to other, but he found himself speechless for a moment. “ Some may call this Déjà Vu but did you know split-perception refers to a phenomenon in which a person’s attention to an activity is divided into two separate perceptions by a distraction, which may be as fleeting as an eye blink?” The words fell from the brim of his mouth in a proud tone,
For a split second, Ed felt conflict rise within his mind, as if this person held great significance to him, but brought him much pain as well, which was befuddling. Ed was certain he’d never seen him previously.Ed’s gaze lingered on the male for an extensive moment. Washington was his home, or so he believed, but as of recently the scientist felt more misplaced and disoriented from the world than he even did growing up. He tried not to think about it, but he would forever be taunted by what his parents did. The unknown man standing before him, almost brought Ed a sense of comfort, comfort he had not felt in the last days. The corner of Ed’s mouth twisted into a smile, with his eyes still holding a unmoving gaze on the other. “ My name is Edward, Edward Nygma.” He introduced himself awkwardly. Extending his hand outward towards the other, Ed’s smile stretched with both bridges of his teeth touching.
no matter how hard he thought on this, no matter how much he tried to figure out just where he had seen the man before, oswald turned up blank. there was only the dreams, the brief images that he tended to get. none of this made any sense, and it was enough to frustrate him. something strange was occurring around here, and he was determined to get to the bottom of it. oswald raised a brow at the words, more than a tad bit confused by the statement, that had certainly been the last thing he had expected to be said. “fascinating,” he remarked after a brief moment of silence. “i can’t say that this entire feeling is split-second, however. i can’t say i’ve really ever felt this way seeing someone.” oswald wasn’t sure if he even liked it. this feeling was just... confusing. “i know we’ve never met before, yet it feels like we have.” perhaps he was losing his mind. those images of an insane asylum certainly didn’t help him any.
a part of him just wanted to leave and pretend none of this had happened. another part wanted to stick this through to see if something could be figured out. oswald’s gaze flickered down to the offered hand, frowning a bit at the name. it sounded familiar. ed. shaking those thoughts off again, he reached out to grasp the offered hand in his own. “oswald cobblepot,” he stated. “some people around here call me penguin. i own the iceberg lounge here.”
