not to be rude but gen z have a troubling lack of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills which shows in how they interpret like books and shit and also shows in how they write and create content which imo means books are just gonna get worse and worse

everything is a soap box to them because they grew up on the Internet during a time where you have to be overly clear in what you say as not to get like sniped by the online thought police. I realise I sound like an insane old hag but like. Cancel culture, YFIP culture, "representation", identity politics and postmodernism has rotted the brains of an entire generation.

Books have to be black and white, childishly morally unambiguous, subtext is abandoned and everything is just so on the nose. Writing books or any other content means you HAVE to get on a soap box. If you don't try to morally indoctrinate your audience every 10 minutes you go to Problematic Jail and get death threats.

There's no metaphor or ambiguity or reading between the lines. You can't have your own interpretations because the author has something to say and you have to absorb it. Gone from death of the author to death of the reader.

Characters don't talk like people, they talk like a twitter PSA, a tumblr "listen up chucklefucks" condescending post about the rights and wrongs of the world and how you should think, talk, act and feel as a person.

At least in the past it wasn't so on the nose. At least in the past you had to work for it. There's no thought required, just consumption. Everything is a commodity. The market rules everything. People's attention spans have been whittled down to nothing.

We don't read/watch/listen, reflect, analyse and discuss. We are spoon-fed and that's it.

I know how this post sounds but damn it, I'm right. Not to be dramatic (and I know every generation says this about the next) but art isn't just dying, its being beaten to death.

The Internet has done irreversible damage to the youth tbqh.

And this isn't a dig on people liking "stupid stuff", I love stupid stuff!! But there's the hard stuff too. The difficult and frustrating and so on. My favourite movie is 1991s point break for crying out loud. I'm not gonna pretend I read Tolstoy before bed every night. But I try! Damn it do I try. And when I was younger you had to. You were supposed to. My teacher would drag me kicking and screaming through classic literature, pull a personal critical analysis out of me like teeth, force me to debate what I'd consider horrific ideologies and theories. I interact with human beings every day who aren't morally pure and I am forced many times to accept that I am not always a good person, or that there is no such thing!

Going from "hey don't use racist or homophobic caricatures in your works" and "learn to recognise propaganda" and "you know marginalised people exist too? And we should get to create our own works and see ourselves in them" has turned into everything being soooooooo toothless, boiled down, MARKETABLE. Gaahhhhhh I can't even express myself coherently.

"That character is a war criminal!" And you are banal and boring and not as thought-provoking as you think. You are a child and will always be a child because you are in a state of arrested development. You haven't been allowed to GROW UP and you never will!

69話読みました。読んだ後しばらく呆然としておりました。ケニーとウーリのくだりもグッと来たけど、これまでのケニーの回想と、リヴァイがクシェルのことを「母さん」と呼んでいたことから、リヴァイがちゃんと愛されて生まれ育った子だというのが伝わってきて本当に胸熱でした。そこからの最後のあの笑顔ですよ…！なんも言えなくなるよ… ケニーもまた、彼なりにリヴァイに愛情を注いでいたんだね。この人もある意味すごく不器用だ… アッカーマン皆不器用すぎる。愛しい。ケニーすごく好きなキャラだっただけに、予想以上に早い退場で残念でなりません。
