Greetings. My name is Ghetsis. I am the ruler of Team Plasma, and will some day soon be the ruler of you also. Do look forward to it.

[There's a small twitch in his brow and he grits his teeth some.]  It's quite hard to fail at something that I never even attempted in the first place.  That horrible boy was raised by others, not me.

I learned that title was just a title, Ghetsis, but they offered and I took it. There’s nothing wrong in that— it’s called taking responsibility, you know. Something you’ll probably never do as long as you’re alive. Sad, that.

And I am quite the hard-working trainer. Already have my grandson on the same routine and teaching him the right lessons along with my own training.

Oh right, little Banjirou.  I've heard about that menace of a child.  Seems he's just like you when you were around that age.  Let's hope he doesn't make the same mistakes, hm?

Hey. Shut up. Just because I’m not the champion anymore, doesn’t mean I don’t work. I still train, I still battle, and I still keep my eye on you and your little neo asshole brigade. 

Whatever ‘important’ work you have to attend to is probably just you thinking up new ways to be a laughing sham of a man that you used to be. I hear most of the real work is handled by that pet scientist of yours nowadays.

So you say.  It's hard to believe the man who couldn't even earn the title of Champion himself knows much about work.  You weren't even able to handle my little 'asshole brigade' by yourself.  But I'll play along.  I'll believe that you're a hard working trainer if that's what you want, Alder.

[Ghetsis laughs at the threat, walking over to the large Bug-type Pokemon and petting it.  It automatically lowers its head, nuzzling against Ghetsis, who surprisingly doesn't seem to mind.] 

I think this does count as a present, if you think about it.  When he came here he was immensely weakened from the battle, barely able to move.  All he could do is pathetically lay there.  And what did I do? I healed him when I could have just let him die.

[He lets go of the Scolipede, who seems to be disappointed that the affection has stopped.]  Or maybe that's what you would have preferred, Akuroma?  Me allowing the Pokemon to perish when it's your fault it was in such terrible condition?  I believe that may have landed you in some extremely hot water with certain people...

Not someone I can replace.

For a moment, the machines monitoring him catch on his heart rate, which skipped and caused the beeping to hang. But quickly enough, it goes back to the usual steady, mechanical sound. Akuroma felt his face burn from a blush— hearing just that was enough to make him happy. It was honestly more than he expected from the man. And if he had it in him, he would have hugged Ghetsis, but instead, he was content to laugh in as bright a way as possible. He was sure he’d probably get hit for trying anyway.

Though very deep down, a part of him feels that paranoia creep in, that feeling of ‘it’s a lie, it’s a trick’ but it passed as he clung to the warmth those words gave him. It was enough. It had to be, considering everything he had been through. “T-thank you…for your answer, Ghetsis. You have n-no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear such from you…” He calmed down, settling completely into bed. After a moment, he shyly spoke up, “…though I may disagree with you…or say some sarcastic gibe or another…I do care and would miss you greatly if you were gone from my life, sir.” He said quietly, almost in a whisper, after a moment’s thoughtful pause, “…there would be no me without you.”

After that, he pulled the covers up, trying to fall asleep again. He was happy and felt tired enough to rest again, if Ghetsis would allow it. “If it’s all right with you, may I get some rest? I still hurt in an awful lot of places…”

It made Ghetsis happy to see Akuroma acting so overjoyed and excited around him.  How long had it been since he seen him act in such a way?  It hurt in some way to think about.  

Nodding at his request, he stands up, and smooths out his outfit.  "Of course, Akuroma.  Get all of the rest you need, I'll be back to check on you later."

He turns to leave but then stops, suddenly remembering something.  "Before I forget,"  Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a piece of wrapped up candy--a blue jaw breaker--and sets it down onto the table next to Akuroma's bed, smiling.  "It's your favorite flavor, if I remember right."

With that said, he leaves, letting Akuroma get to sleep.

It was strange to be like this with Ghetsis— calm, relaxed, none of the usual formalities or sarcastic jabs thrown between them. It had been such a long time since they had just sat in comforting silence or talked like this. And for a moment, the idea makes Akuroma sad, a realization hitting him that at one point, he had respected and cared about Ghetsis and appreciated his company. He wondered what had changed, when and how.

But he shrugged it off after a moment, giving up on recalling through the still dull haze of pain, hands folded on the blanket in front of him. He was becoming slightly uncomfortable again as he realized that he didn’t have his gloves on.

Quietly, he spoke up, smiling again, “Thank you…Ghetsis. I am sorry for my failing you and for putting up with me while I was injured. When I am well again, I will double my work to repay you.” He felt like falling asleep again, but he stared at the man for a moment, wanting to ask him something, “…what would you have done if I had died? Forgive me for asking, sir.”

Again he's silent, but this time it's out of shock.  The question was unexpected, though giving how he was acting now, it probably should have been expected.  He continues to stay quiet, not looking at Akuroma,  instead looking toward the window as the figured out how to answer this.

A few minutes pass and, after clearing his throat, Ghetsis talks again, looking to Akuroma.  "...I am honestly not sure what I would do, Akuroma.  For everything that I have ever planned I have made a back up plan on the chance the something goes wrong.  I am never unprepared for something when it comes to what I do.  But you...you're not someone I can replace.  Without you, I'm not sure if my plans can come to fruition.  There would surely be some panic and chaos among Plasma for a bit."

Pausing, he takes a moment to think of how to continue.  He finds he can't exactly look towards Akuroma right now, the usual confidence slipping away momentarily.  "And, of course...if you were to die, I would mourn over it.  You are important to me Akuroma, not just as someone to help complete my plans, but as a person also.  I would...miss you dearly."

It was a certain kind of embarrassed but welcomed relief to have Ghetsis put his glasses back on for him. His headache subsided just a little more as he blinked his eyes back into focus, finally able to see where he was and recognized the room he had been placed in. The explanation added onto it caused the scientist to realize, in his own way, that Ghetsis had been here, but was letting the matter drop. For whatever reason Ghetsis had, the younger man could respect it and Akuroma just nodded as he trailed off. 

But then that cold feeling hooked into him again. And he shied against the pillows of the bed, trying to hide from that glare. The yelling was a little much, but he expected it. Again though, he realizes something is off— this anger wasn’t because he failed, but because he had been reckless, almost killed himself. Akuroma stared at his hands for a time, not bothering to say anything, as he wasn’t sure what to say at all. He wasn’t used to Ghetsis actually being concerned or worried for his well being. Then again, he rarely gave cause for it in the past. Not in the usual way, at least.

Eventually though, his gold eyes catch Ghetsis’ from the corner of them, “I am sorry, sir. But I felt like I didn’t have much of a choice. The girl had me backed into a corner. She proved more…violent…than expected, despite my peaceful intentions.” He recalled with some tremor in his frame, the way the floor had given out under him from the Earthquake attack, but it passed. And he sighed, tired, sinking back against the pillows again.

“I didn’t think things through, I guess.” He tried to smile at that, hoping to take the wind out of Ghetsis’ anger.

For a moment, all Ghetsis can do is stare at Akuroma.  For once he isn't sure exactly what to do.  After that first initial burst of anger he was feeling oddly calm. He had gotten it off his chest. And now all he felt was relief.  Relief that Akuroma was fine.  

Eventually he sits down into the chair, sighing and rubbing his temple with a hand as if he had a headache.  "That's obvious," he mumbles, sinking back into the chair.  All the usual elegance and grace, the perfect posture, was gone right now.  Ghetsis seemed to be oddly relaxed, when he was actually just tired.  In the two days that Akuroma was out he hadn't slept a wink.

Leaning his head back against the chair, he closes his eyes, and for a moment it seems as if he's fallen asleep before he speaks up again. "...I'm disappointed that the mission was a failure," he pauses, moving to look at the younger man, a small smile on his face.  "But I'm glad you're alright, Akuroma."

There was that slight ringing sensation in his ears, but as he finally came to his senses, Akuroma felt some of the headache subside. But a cold, sinking feeling set in as he finally caught the voice behind the questions. He tried to move some, put on his best smile, look at Ghetsis with something close to confidence, but everything still hurt a little too much. 

With a sigh, he stared at the ceiling instead. The scientist lifted a hand very slowly and saw it was bandaged, blurry as his vision was, and he felt his forehead with it, finding another bandage there too. There was a question of just how badly he had been injured in that explosion, but nothing felt missing at least, not even his forelock of blue hair that was now slightly singed around the ends. He could feel it just barely under his fingertips. Finally, he answered in a tired voice, “…I…I can hear you, sir. Sorry. I didn’t mean to keep you waiting.”

He wondered if he should apologize for failing, purposefully as it was, in what he was assigned to do, but instead fell silent. He felt so nervous, trying to think of something else to say. Then there was another question that suddenly entered his mind and he turned slightly to stare at Ghetsis with a quizzical look in his gold eyes, “…how long have I been asleep? Have you been here this whole time with me…?”

Once Akuroma starts to speak Ghetsis breathed a sigh of relief, glad that he was at least well enough to speak.  The doctor that had treated him assured him multiple times that Akuroma would be fine, but he had to see it for himself before he believed it.  As Akuroma checks himself, he watches for a moment, then turned to a counter that was near the bed, ignoring the questions to pick up a pair of glasses off of it.

"Here, I know how you don't like not having them on." he holds them out for him to take, then frowns, seeing the man's bandaged hands, remembering the condition he was in.  "...hold still."  The older man mumbles, unfolding the blue glasses and careful putting them on Akuroma with a soft smile on his face as he does.

After that is done he sighs, moving to sit down in a chair next to the bed.  "You were out for about a day and a half, though I could be wrong.  It could be two days by now... " he trails off, trying to decide whether or not to answer the other question.  Ultimately he decides to ignore it, hoping Akuroma won't ask again, and instead chooses to glare at the man.  

"What the hell do you think you were doing back there?  Using Explosion like that.  Do you have any idea how incredibly reckless that was Akuroma?"  He shouts at him, standing from his chair.  All the worry he bottled up over the past two days was now spilling out in the form of anger, though it was obvious that the worry was still there. "You could have killed yourself doing that, you fool!"

“Good morning, Aku!”

A rustle of curtains opening could be heard close by. There was an incredibly bright glare against his face, sunny morning light right over his head. Instead of answering that greeting, he simply sank into the covers and hid himself away. He had a bad enough headache as it was and he was too tired to bother waking up. Just tightened his eyes shut and pushed his face down against the pillow. 

“Come on, Aku! You need to get up. Dad says he doesn’t want us mooching off of him anymore— you need to go find a job!”

At the mention of a job, his eye opens and stares straight ahead. Didn’t he still have a job? Well, maybe that was questionable at this point, but he knew he never ‘mooched’ off anyone in his life, let alone someone’s parent. Coming out of hiding, he stared over the edge of the covers and looked around the room, but the morning light seemed just a touch too bright for him to make out anything. Except for what seemed to be a familiar silhouette against the window near the bed.

“…Homika? What are you talking about?”

At first, it seemed like the silhouette heard him, turning to face him, but the voice that answered him wasn’t what he thought it was at all— it was confusingly deeper. And there was a beeping noise that was starting to make his head hurt a whole lot more than before, the more awake he became. He couldn’t see either, everything was still a bright, white glare against his eyes. 

“—re you awake? Akuroma, can you hear me?”

For Ghetsis, the past day had been spent in this room with Akuroma, alternating between sitting in the chair next to the bed, reading a book and occasionally glancing at Akuroma to chek if he was awake, and pacing around in front of the window.  Right now he was doing the latter and had been for at least an hour now with his arms crossed behind his back, mumbling to himself.

As for why he was spending his precious time in here instead of working  he'd never actually say.  Or allow anyone to ask either.  The room that Akuroma was set up in was a private one, one that most members of the organization couldn't get to.  It had to be the nicest hospital like room there was in the organization, and for good reason.  It was usually reserved only for when Ghetsis was in need of it.

The room was, for the most part quiet, if you ignored the beeping sound.  And Akuroma had seemed so calm, even in his poor condition, that it came as a shock to finally hear the scientist moving around, mumbling something.   Ghetsis turned from the window, heading over to his bed with quick steps.  

 "Akuroma, are you awake? Akuroma, can you hear me?”

[The pen made a long messy scrawl from the paper to the desk as Akuroma was spun back around. He shrank back into his chair at the glare, eventually being forced to glance elsewhere for a moment as he nervously bit down on his lower lip, Ghetsis effectively draining the defiance out of him. But as he listened, he slowly managed to stare back, eye to eye with the man, especially as the subject of types came into play…and the word ‘Steel’ was thrown out. And in a moment of sudden reckless emotion, at the mere mention of himself leading this mission, he gripped his chair, shoving it back and stood up, facing Ghetsis on even enough terms.] 

I ref— … [He was making a cutting motion with his hand, as if he was trying to reject the notion, but he froze. A thought crossed his mind, gold eyes glancing elsewhere as he contemplated the act of refusing this mission, something he hadn’t done before. Second guessing himself. Was it so wise to test these ‘consequences’? Was there no better solution than straight defiance? Surely he could use this mission to an advantage somehow…get through this logically instead of letting his emotions rule him. He was letting his personal feelings get in the way, endangering not only himself but everything he had worked on and the people involved in his life. Calming down, Akuroma smiled once more. There would be time to plan things out once this meeting was over.]

As you wish, sir. I will do what you ask of me to the best of my ability.

I'm glad to see you coming to your senses, Akuroma.  I was so afraid that you were about to refuse me.  That would have caused such terrible things for both you and the Gym Leader.  It would have pained me so bad know what horrible fates awaited you both.  [He feigns a sort of sad, almost apologetic look, before he starts to laugh loudly.]  

I'll leave this take over to you.  Schedule everything and assemble what ever team you need, if you believe one is needed.  [He starts to walk away, but once he gets to the door he stops, pausing a second to look back to Akuroma.]  And don't you dare try to cross me, Akuroma.  You won't like what happens if you do.

[He sat there in his chair, gloved fingers steepled in front of him as he listened to and watched, unmoving— save his eyes, as Ghetsis circled around him. He gave nothing away on how he felt about these ideas for hostages until the mention of ‘Roxie’ and the only thing that escapes him is a tired, pained sigh. As if he has a sudden headache, he frowns and rubs his temples before falling back on his usual expression of a very blank and vaguely burdened smile.] I see, sir. What a fine idea, indeed. Instead of recruiting the loudest and most potentially dangerous gym leader, we take her hostage instead. The little ball of violence will surely take so well to us invading her gym and taking her as some glorified prize to be ransomed to the public! I can’t imagine how this could possibly go wrong!

Did you honestly think this through? Who would challenge her, ensure her cooperation? You? Our grunts? I doubt you’d use anything less than absolute force, thereby damaging the ‘goods’ fatally, and our grunts would more than likely suffer defeat after defeat. Causing a dramatic loss in morale and supplies. [He adjusts his glasses as he goes over the flaws of trying to take this particular gym leader, never once stopping to frown. If anything his smile grows with bitter amusement.] No, sir, you should turn back around to the Trainer’s School or the supermodel. They would prove easier by sheer number of casualties and loss of sponsors or aesthetics respectively. They would be far more willing to give in than the musician.

[He turned back to his work, tapping the pen back into writing position and working on another set of plans.] If that’s all…I think I will get back to my work now.

I have thought this through.  [He grabs the back of the chair and spins it back around so Akuroma is facing him once again.] And do not turn away from me again until I am done speaking, otherwise you'll end up making me quite angry.  

[Ghetsis glares down at him for a moment before that usual 'nice' look he wears returns and he turns away as he talks.]  As you've pointed out, the grunts are incompetent and simply can not be trusted on a mission as important as this.  And of course, I could always challenge her, yes.  But that's something I would rather not do.  So there is only one way this can happen.

I'm sure you realize what her type specialty is, yes? Poison.  And what types are Poison weak to?  Psychic and Ground for the most part.  But there's also one other type that they have a disadvantage against, one that they can't even effect at all. [He turns back to look at Akuroma.] Steel.  

Poison Pokemon do no damage to steel. None at all!  And who is it in this organization that has a team made almost entirely of Steel types?  I'll give a little hint.  It's you, Akuroma. That's why it's going to be you who goes on this mission.  You who challenges her and takes over her gym.  You who makes sure this all happens perfectly.  And if not...the consequences will be dire.  Do I make myself clear?
