Something caught my attention this afternoon hanging in a row of elderberry shrubs. Upon closer inspection I noticed this massive and amazing swarm hanging a few feet off the ground and about 10 yards from the hive where they came from. Thy left an 8-frame hive body that I had used as a swarm trap. It was strapped to a tree overhanging our creek. This colony had moved in last June. They have never been treated for varroa mites or even inspected for that matter. Just bees living in a small hive 12’ up in a tree and thriving. What a blessing of abundance.
