Makes a soft noise.
one night cuddles || wingspiked
A bout of indecision descends upon him almost immediately before the door flies open, and he wishes heād given himself a little more time to stand and reconsider his life choices, but the moment he sees the person standing on the other side of the threshold the rest of his gnawing worries fly away from him. Kageyama - itās definitely Kageyama, itās not been so long for the recognition to be anything but instantaneous - appears as stunned as he feels. The first thought that lifts over the shock is that Kageyama is his cuddle buddyāsĀ (the phrase still makes him want to cringe) roommate, making for a reunion which would be just shy of mortifying if he has to explain his reason for being here in any detail at all. But then he recalls the tone of the e-mails heās received, the sense of, if not familiarity, then a decent amount of ease after the initial awkwardness of arranging their plans passed, and he realizesā¦
Theyāre here for each other.
Somehow thatās not as mortifying as meeting up with a complete stranger. But still.
The right words to say donāt come to him quickly, and he fills the lull by going through the motions of walking in and toeing his shoes off by the door, letting his gaze travel around the immediate vicinity before landing back on Kageyama who looks⦠much the same as he did in high school. Not much time had passed at all.
āI didnāt know you lived this close to me,ā he eventually says, letting the elephant stand in the room for a while longer. Would they even go through with it now? He never thought Kageyama would post an ad like that. Never imagined heād be answering it like this either. āIt didnāt take me long to get here by foot. The circumstances are a little, umā¦ā He smiles. āBut itās good to see you again. How have you been?ā
Kageyama had a few things heād imagined in mind when he was trying to picture his ācuddle buddyā. From the tone of the emails, it had to be someone... warm, if he could describe someone as such. Even though the ad heād posted on craigslist had been very bizarre, this person still answered him calmly, no questioning why he put the ad up, even agreeing to set a time and place with him; as if the person he was contacting was no stranger at all.
Well, he thinks, that person is definitely no stranger.Ā
Ennoshita Chikara, his former upperclassman in high school and in the volleyball club. Of all the people... He imagines Sawamura-san turning up, and shudders a little.
Besides, it wasnāt unpleasant.
He tugs at his t-shirt self consciously as he watches Ennoshita survey his living quarters. He hopes he had been thorough enough in cleaning everything up. Nothing looks out of place, and then his gaze rests on the coffee table, where the frying pan heād brought out to hit any hostile person rested. He cringes.
āAh. Well.ā Kageyama clears his throat awkwardly, shifting where he stood near the door (only barely remembering to close it).Ā āI... yeah. Thatās. Well.ā Does he explain why he put up the ad? Does he explain he was only half sober when he did that?Ā
Hey, haha, long time no see, funny how it took a half-sober ad for a reunion.
Heās not smooth with conversation, but even he knows that thatās not what you say.
He walks into the living room next to where Ennoshita is standing, and settles with a āItās good to see you again, too. Iāve been well. And you?ā

A lot of ghosts influence the world around them to capture someoneās attention. Moving objects around (perhaps waiting near a pile of beams isnāt the best idea, but safer options are limited on a construction site), leaving messages of all kinds, whispered words, toying with electronics, visiting oneās dreamsā¦Ā Many people donāt wait to figure out what kind of entity theyāre interacting withĀ before trying to contact them, unaware or uninformed of the risks an amateur could face by sending invitations into the paranormal world. When seeing an opened door itās only natural to want to pass through and see what might be on the other side.
Ennoshita doesnāt have to wait long at all before he feels something, that indescribable something that always prickles his senses, akin to the feeling of someone entering a previously empty room or a chill that raises goosebumps over the skin, and heās already swiveling around when a voice comes from behind. He sees the ghost before him, young and semiopaque around the edges, standing right where stated. Just a boy. Itās a disarming sight, all the more so because he canāt pick out a single speck of trauma on the otherās body, no visible clues as to help piece together what may have caused his death. He looks totally human.
Ennoshita tells himself that heās prepared for this outcome too.
(Never gets any easier, a small voice answers. Thereās salt and sage and a handful of other harmful things tucked into his bag, ready to be used at a momentās notice.)
Talking comes first. The construction worker wasnāt the type who wanted the ghost gone. He just wanted itā¦. gone, away and somewhere else, a task thatās definitely easier than getting rid of a spirit altogether.
āI actually need some help from you too,ā he replies steadily, moving so that the beams arenāt between them anymore but staying a safe distance away. āSo maybe we can try to help each other. What do you want?ā
Kageyama is pleased to see that the other person isnāt running away; he looks calm, in contrast to the construction worker who ran off screaming. Maybe that had been a good idea, after all-- not suddenly coming up so close to them.
Heād been worried that this person would have run screaming too; what would he have done if the other man had run away too? Heās going to probably have to wait ages for another person to come by, and heās not really keen on having to wait for that long.
Slowly-- because if he moved too quickly, he fears that the other man might run away again-- he maneuvers around the pile of beams and moves closer, stopping at a distance before he speaks again.Ā āI guess thatās fair,ā he murmurs,Ā āhelping each other.... Well, I was going to ask help from someone, earlier.ā Kageyama grumbles,Ā ābut he ran away screaming. I havenāt even said anything, I just said hi. All I want to know is how I can get out of here.ā
āI mean, I know how stupid that sounds, because I could just walk out of here, but itās...ā he scrunches his nose and frowns, trying to think of the right word,Ā āscary? Trying to leave was scary. It felt weird. So I thought I was going to ask someone to escort me back.ā
āWhat do you need from me, though? I donāt think Iāve ever seen you around before.ā
kingsets liked for a short starter
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ć Kageyamaā, I donāt think glaring at the game over sign Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā is going to change anything, you know. ć
Well, it wouldnāt, but thatās one way to get his annoyance out.
ā...Letās play another round.ā
āIt means that youāre not as annoying as usual of course! Or maybe itās because youāre learning your place~.ā Oikawa responds and it feels natural to slip insults towards Tobio; however, he doesnāt make any motions to stop Kageyama from moving closer to him, from trying to take refuge in his presence. Oikawa can see the way that many alphas look at the omega and he canāt help but be amused by the fact that they truly believed that they had any chance with such a simple minded idiot. Besides, they were doing nothing but looking and that fact merely fueled his ego really.
If anything, he would make sure no one fucked with Tobio for his own sake. What kind of alpha would he be if he couldnāt keep other alphas away?
āIāll ask for whatever I want when the time comes Tobio-chan. Donāt worry about it~.ā He laughs, āMaybe Iāll have you wear something absolutely atrocious.ā
āLearning my place? ...You mean, as an omega?ā Kageyama begins to frown. Heās heard that a lot already from all sorts people on the streets; not towards him in particular, but the sentiment is there.Ā āIf thatās what you mean, I donāt have anything to learn.ā He scowls.
Regardless, they continue to walk down the street; he can feel the alphas eyeing him, a young omega out so late and in this kind of neighborhood, but he figures that the fact that Oikawa is next to him really didnāt make them make any moves. Heās grateful for that; at least they know enough not to mess with another alpha.
Soon enough they come to the end of the street, and Kageyama breathes out a sigh, annoyance traded away for relief.Ā āDonāt ask for anything like that.ā he grumbles lightly,Ā ā...thank you, though, Oikawa-san.ā
āAre you getting sick or something Tobio-chan? Youāre awfully agreeable today.ā Oikawa questions in that too-sweet tone of his. Itās surreal watching Tobioās behavior, watching this person that heās labeled as Ā a threat act so unlike himself. He watches as Tobio nearly comes into contact with him and for a split second, he registers the otherās scent with a furrow of his brow. Heād frown if he wasnāt hellbent on keeping up a semblance of normalcy between them.
However, it wouldnāt do if another alpha noticed his weariness towards Tobio. Oikawa stuffs his hands into his pockets and does his best to keep his stiff shoulders relaxed. Slowly, casually, he shrugs and flashes a smile down at Kageyama, the edges ever so sharp, āBesides, I already told you that I wanted a favor. You wonāt know when or where or what but a favor is a favor. And donāt think you can change my mind on that Tobio-chan~.ā
āWhat do you mean Iām awfully agreeable today?ā Tobio tilts his head in confusion, but the confusion doesnāt last too long as the alphas begin to come into sight. He instinctively shifts to stand closer to Oikawa, reminding himself they canāt touch him; not while heās with another alpha. He can feel their stares on him, like heās a piece of meat; he feels slight distaste for his secondary identity begin to uncurl in him.
āIām not planning to change my mind.ā Tobio huffs,Ā āJust donāt ask for anything unreasonable.ā
my head hurts, so off to bed with me. ))
Well, the world was full of surprises today. Oikawa clicks his tongue as he eyes Tobio, his smile dropping off into something a little more thoughtful when the omega bowed. It was true that this street was full of alphasāunmated alphas at that and for a moment, he feels a ping of protectiveness for Tobio. How unpleasant. Oikawa shrugs it off before lifting his hands in a nonchalant gesture. Really, if only there was a way he could record Tobioās plea for prosperity sake. Heād like that.
āI suppose I could walk you home Tobio-chan. Letās just say that you owe me a favor in return~.ā Oikawa replies as he settles his hands on his hips. That seemed like a fair trade off to him, āLead the way Tobio-chan. We donāt want the big, scary alphas looking at that scowl of yours for too long.ā
Itās relieving that Oikawa didnāt question him any further. He raises his head in gratitude and instinctively shifts closer towards Oikawa. The action alone makes him feel so much safer, and again he is grateful that Oikawaās not making so much of a fuss. He almost leans into Oikawa, but catches himself in time; is it just him, or does Oikawa smell really nice?
āI thought you wouldnāt come with me.ā Kageyama murmurs,Ā āIām... uh, Iām thankful you came.ā
āWhat can I do in return?ā Kageyama asks, looking at Oikawa as they begin to head down the street.

The construction site is eerie at night, all looming flood lights and deep shadows thrown across the skeletal building rising from a mass of metal and concrete. Gravel crunches beneath Ennoshitaās feet as he slowly walks around the areaās perimeter, passing beneath the arm of a stationary crane that makes him keenly aware that he probably should be wearing some kind of safety helmet while on-site, even after work hours when everything is quiet and unmoving. He glances up at the machine warily, relieved when it stays as still as before.
At least this location doesnāt seem to be a hotbed of paranormal activity. His quick research hadnāt revealed a lot (thereās only so much digging through news articles that he can take on such short notice) Ā and heās never quick to make assumptions before going to a site.Ā The construction worker who contacted him told Ennoshita he had been too āspooked outā to do anything but run when the ghost tried talking to him, and that any past creepy occurrences had never been quite as bold as that instance, easily passed off as oddities in the busy work day to be rehashed as entertaining stories between the workers. The man couldnāt provide anything close to a good description of what heād seen other than Iām telling you it was a ghost,Ā a male sounding voice, the feeling of someone or something being nearby. He had certainly sounded frightened even during their phone call, but Ennoshita learned two important things about the one heās hunting: 1) that the ghost is articulate 2) that it is actively seeking to engage with people, suggesting that it could be rather sociable or craving attention and 3) that it has an unknown temperament.
Despite all preparedness Ennoshita is really hoping not to encounter a malicious spirit.
He picks his way deeper into the construction site and pauses by a stack of beams, figuring itās as good a place as any to settle. If the ghost really is seeking to communicate with someone he may be engaged without needing to do a thing. And if not thenā¦Ā Well, weāll handle that when it needs to be handled, he thinks.
Kageyama canāt remember how he got here.
One moment, he was in this construction site, and the next-- was there a next at all? Kageyama canāt remember anything but black. Or what he was doing here, for that matter. He likes this place; he knows that much. It feels nice to be here; it feels as if he comes here often. There is a comfortable familiarity with this construction site.
Heād woken up on the ground, with beams towering over him-- how long was he out, is his mother worried? His first thought was that he should definitely get home to her, but when he tried to leave the place it feels like there is something that keeps him rooted, something that screams no, you canāt leaveĀ and frankly, it was scary; the way it makes him feel pure fearĀ sends him running back to the midst of the construction site. Only then did he feel safe again.
Trying to ask one of the construction workers if he could maybe escort him home so heād feel safer had resulted in said worker screaming and running away, and Kageyama had had no chance to ask him why or what it is he saw. A cursory glance over his shoulder showed that there was nothing at all, and so he is left to wait for maybe someone else who would talk to him.
He hears the crunching of the soles of shoes on ground and thinks, just his luck, maybe this person wonāt run away. He follows the source of the noise and finds a young man nearby a stack of beams. Last time he tapped the person on the back... Maybe that surprised the worker. Not wanting to spook the only other person heād seen in-- well, a while, he calls out from afar instead.
āHello?ā he begins, slowly,Ā āUm, can you help me? Ah, Iām behind you, near the stack of beams.ā he adds as an afterthought; maybe if the other person knew where he was it would be less of a surprise.
āCould you please walk with me? I donāt feel safe here- too many alphas aroundā¦ā
Well that wasnāt something Oikawa had ever expected to come out of Tobioās mouth, especially towards him. His eyebrows edge upwards before heās breaking out into a large smile thatās filled to the brim with artificial saccharine, āIs Tobio-chan asking me for a favor of all things~? What do I get out of this? I have things to do and people to see after all!ā
(He didnāt mention that he would likely help out Tobio. He wasnāt heartless, he just liked to mercilessly press at the otherās buttons and watch him squirm. Endangering Tobio wasnāt really at the top of his list.)
Being an Omega sucks, Kageyama thinks as he averts his eyes and stares down instead of at Oikawa.
He can smellĀ it; this entire street reeks of alphas. Alphas that are sure to quick to recognize his scent and potentially jump him. Heās heard of all sorts of horor stories. Really, he should know better than to wander around alone at this hour, but heād been practicing volleyball and he... completely forgot. He can already hear his motherās advice echoing in his ears: donāt stay out late alone, Tobio, youāre an Omega.
āYouāre the only one around here.ā Tobio mutters, more to the asphalt beneath his feet than to his senpai,Ā āYouāre the only Alpha I know.ā
He bows down, ninety-degrees, and repeats his plea.
āPlease accompany me, Oikawa-san.ā
