orm marius. you’re the product of a loveless union. not that love has ever mattered in the face of duty. your mother was queen atlanna, a woman with a tender heart ---- but some things were harder to love than others. your father, orvax marius, was a decorated mariner captain of the atlantean naval fleet. brought together to solidify the bonds between royalty and sea force, your parents just barely made it work. atlanna was kind. she dotted on you with a mother’s touch. the king raged on. he kissed with his fist and no one was spared, not your mother ---- and certainly not you. when he was not raising his hand to his blood, orvax abused his military status to raid and sink surface ships. he would kill thousands and with their blood he wrote stories to fill your head. a world so terrible. a lesion, festering and sick ; the surface world.
one day you’re older. older, but in the eyes of some, too young to lose your mother. atlantis was many things --- but merciful she was not, neither was your father. the king was colorful in his speech but he’d come to favor the term BASTARD. your claim to the throne perhaps not as legitimate as originally believed. an older son --- of land. they’re not rumors in your household. they’re accusations. fuel to your father’s fire. you don’t say much of it anyone can see the way the king’s eyes spark with rage and madness at the mere mention. however, as the child you were ------ you wept. ravaged by the very idea of kin chained to a world as unforgiving as the surface.
and soon you weep for your mother. the queen. sentenced to death by her own partner. a TRAITOR condemned by your father’s jealousy. her light snuffed out and your days thus forth are long. long and dreary. without the queen’s interference, your father paints you in HIS image. young, impressionable, and the splitting image of a madman - you were just as doomed as your mother.
the humans would have you sentenced to death. when you yielded the throne you lost diplomatic immunity and due to the nature of your crimes against the surface world you were sentenced to their prison. belle reve, they called it. built to handle dangerous individuals such as yourself. to complete the lavish experience ----- those confined alongside you fix you with the title “ NEW FISH “. you don’t fare well on the surface. a body unequipped to handle long periods of time away from water means you begin to fall ill. a keen eyed guard picks up on this and it is your first experience with human kindness. he brings you water, albeit bottled, it is a small act that keeps you from coming apart at the seams.
when the prison is attacked and the prisoners freed - you repay his act of kindness with death.
there was no loyalty among thieves. you strike down your fellow inmates as easily as you did your guard. atlantis was beckoning and the call of the sea was strong. but the land was still foreign, the sun hidden, and you’re easily put off-track. it is there that you meet her. erin shaw. in time you learn there’s more of your mother in you than you cared to believe. the prison being empty meant the prisoners had to go somewhere and there was no better place to turn to then the neighboring town. there she worked, a diner, where you stopped but not only you. two clad in orange jumpsuits torment her until they torment you for intruding. they raise a hand to you and so you return the favor --- fatally. erin shaw pleads, first for her life, and then for her boy. she wants to make a hero out of you. save her son, he’s only eight. at a babysitter’s and if the prison is empty, he’s likely in danger. this doesn’t concern you --- informing her that at eight the boy should be capable of handling his own, it was what YOU had to do. what was expected of you. you return to the sea.
eight. eight was too young.
atlantis would wait. you’re embraced by the sea for no more than a minute when you part once more. to her, to her son. it is them and only them that you save. stand guard at their home until all passes over. they give you shelter despite your status as terrorist. you saved her and her son and that was good enough. the days pass and you grow quite fond of them. young tommy shaw, you tell him stories like your father did. but yours carry no venom. no hatred. you speak only of kings and queens, of atlantis, her history and countless adventures. it becomes ritual, a story every night.
then one night he says it. he calls you DAD.
you were going to get MARRIED. yes, you, to a surface dweller. your mother would be proud. then IT strikes. no-one can say for sure what it was, but one day you’re cut off. you’re suddenly more man than atlantean. you leave a note for your family. you must leave. it will break their heart --- but you have no choice. new york may hold the key to returning to your kingdom and you must make sure atlantis is safe. it was never about what YOU wanted - atlantis would come first --- and she could no longer wait.

in the comics his attack on the surface world is pretty severe and MUCH more public. in the films we just see orm yeet some ships and trash back on land and it’s kind of seems like it’s chopped up to an odd phenomenon ----- however, in the comics orm breaks out the atlantean war plans and just floods gotham, metropolis, and boston, before leading a full attack on boston. it’s bad. he kills thousands and goes toe to toe with the justice league -- and does pretty well for awhile may i add. good enough to be labelled an alpha-class threat. 👀 👀 👀
in the comics, orm only attacked the surface because he believed they’d bombed atlantis ( in actuality vulko bombed atlantis to stir the pot ). whereas in the movies it is orm who orchestrates an attack on atlantis in order to get backing for war on the surface. but there’s a big difference in how comic orm was raised versus movie. in the comics atlanna kills orvax when orm is approx 12, and then she also “dies”. whereas in the movies, orvax has atlanna killed and we can assume movie orm probably grew up in a much more toxic environment than comic orm did. which could explain why he follows in his father’s footsteps a little more.
comic !! orm !! has !! a lot !! of heart !! when he found out he had a brother on the surface ( as a child i’d assume ) he wept because he honestly believed it was a horrible place to live and FOR YEARS he begged atlantean guards to go to the surface to retrieve arthur !!!! but no one would go because it fucking sucked up there. then when arthur went and found atlantis this bitch cried AGAIN because hE LOVED HIS BROTHER. ,,,, but then arthur was loyal to the surface so shit didn’t really work out.
what im trying to say is,,,, he’s not an asshole through and through. he thinks he’s doing the best for atlantis,,, his methods are just godawful. he was actually a pretty good king. his people liked him. he had a statue. i mean his dad probably didn’t set the standards v high but. he had loyalist who wanted to free him from prison and upon his initial defeat in the comics the army he was leading still wanted to take arthur out even after orm yielded the throne.
plus in the comics this b*tch didn’t even want the throne. but he has duty so ingrained in his head. atlantis all he got,,, being king ???? that’s all he knows how to do. his LIFE was atlantis. this leads to bad decisions.
he went to PTA meetings for tommy’s school. that’s canon. thanks DC. no one writes villains like u do.
