[OC] Back to Drawing (Part 6)

So after 3 or so months of inactivity with my digital drawing skill development, I decided to just sketch something and make a digital piece out of it.

The drawings on the left and middle are my base shadows filled in on top of the base colours. The right drawing is the re-done lineart.

My Thoughts: I got help from a friend on this drawing and they said that there was something off with the forehead and the eyes. After flipping the drawing again and again, I decided to scrap the lineart and redo it. I warped the forehead down and then moved the eyes up using the loop tool. I adjusted the eyes a bit more and changed the bangs and the other facial features. What I learned from this is that I should really pay attention to my lineart first before colouring it in. Not only does it save me time from re-doing the colouring but it helps me to keep improving. Instead of just being satisfied with what I’ve done, I should be more critical of my art.

So after 3 or so months of inactivity with my digital drawing skill development, I decided to just sketch something and make a digital piece out of it.

Left picture has base colours for the eyes while the picture on the right has the eyes completely coloured.

My Thoughts: I had trouble making the eyes in this process because I was following a tutorial that I have been using for a lot of my digital art. I changed it up by using a soft edge brush instead of a hard edge one to create these eyes. I also added a  gradient over instead of a singular dark colour which gave the eyes more depth. I think they fit the character very well, compared to these eyes on this character.

So after 3 or so months of inactivity with my digital drawing skill development, I decided to just sketch something and make a digital piece out of it.

Left picture has the character filled out with the base colours, while the right picture has white filled out for the eyes.

My Thoughts: There isn’t anything interesting happening here,but I was contemplating on starting the entire lineart again because it just looked very weird: I even flipped the drawing but I just couldn’t figure out what it was.

[OC] Back to Drawing (Part 3)

So after 3 or so months of inactivity with my digital drawing skill development, I decided to just sketch something and make a digital piece out of it.

Left picture has the character filled out with the skin colour from the colour palette I made from color.adobe.com. Right picture is the character filled out with the other base colours except for the eyes.

My Thoughts: I decided to change up my colouring technique by colouring the entire thing with any colour and then “clipping” (using the alpha masks on Photoshop) 3 separate layers which are the skin, hair and pullover. That way I don’t have to worry about going outside of the lines. I think this was such an unnecessary step to take but I think it as good that I explored this option with colouring in the character. My digital pieces tend to have black outlines which I liked at first but then I saw other artists on Deviantart whose art looked a lot softer when the lineart was coloured. So I changed the lineart’s colour to a grey I think? And then I set it to multiply or overlay to capture the colour of the material/skin/hair. I think trying that out turned out pretty well.

[OC] Back to Drawing (Part 2)

So after 3 or so months of inactivity with my digital drawing skill development, I decided to just sketch something and make a digital piece out of it. 

Left picture is me checking on any lines or spots that were left from erasing lines. The right picture shows more cleaned up lines especially in the bangs.

My Thoughts:  The lineart was adjusted around the chin and the bangs because I felt like they didn’t look natural. At this point I was contemplating on scrapping this and making another lineart as it did not turn out as cute as the drawing. I learned to really pay attention to the drawing/reference you are making your digital piece from.

[OC] Back to Drawing (Part 1)

So after 3 or so months of inactivity with my digital drawing skill development, I decided to just sketch something and make a digital piece out of it. The first picture on the left is the sketch that I liked out of the four I did. The right picture is the digital sketch. My Thoughts:  I think the sketch looks a lot cuter than what I ended up with on the digital side. It might be because of how the pencil lines are a lot softer and less rigid and clean like the digital sketch. I didn’t like the way her eyelashes ended up on digital: they were less delicate. I think I should pay more attention as to how the hair worked on pencil as this was very important to show her quite cute image. She looks more mature than cute now.
