"Generate a digital wireframe of the electromagnetic transmission and chemical aerial distributor, I need a holographic projection pronto." commands a fair-skinned woman as soon as she steps into the room, a hint of alarm is present in her voice.
The flickering of lights in the tech laboratory and slight delay in computer response seem to not be products of what she assumed as a slight power outage. Rather, the wide eyes and rushed movements of the scientists who were previously demonstrating a genetic patterning technique, blatantly suggest otherwise. As one of the trainees participating in this comprehensive seminar, she doubts she the only person curious as to what is happening.
"This activity will be canceled for today. We will be sending alternative schedules as soon as possible. You may vacate the area. Thank you." the lady announces, before pulling out her a touch-screen communicator. "Delegation A03 are operational." she speaks into the device, before turning her back to the group of adolescents.
Shoving her tablet and communicator into a rucksack, she exits the premise along with seven other individuals. The hallways are more crowded than usual, as guards position themselves along the walls, almost as if readying for an attack. Only her mind seems to pick up this sense, as two boys in front of her speak loudly of the "hot" woman from earlier.
Kira rolls her eyes. иГиоŃ.
A pounding of footsteps stops her internal rant. Glancing sideways to find the source, something else catches her eye. An open, unguarded door from across the hall displays live surveillance streams on large screens. Her instinct tells her this is something she needs to see.
Nonchalantly separating from her group, she makes her way inside the room and shuts it quietly. The blindingly bright screens show endless amounts of live footage. Soldiers were scattered all around the area, however, the faces don't seem familiar. Plugging in her personal, self-made thumb drive into the computer, she begins decrypting the software. Accessing these files proves to be harder than her previous hacking situation. Nonetheless, she gets past the military grade firewall without encountering problem.
Accessing a facial identification system and applying that on all screens, she sets up a data patterning chart. Lechner, Annalise. Human. Niemi, Draco. Human. Varga, Gavin. Human. An obvious pattern emerges amongst the black-clad individuals. They are all human. This was odd. Usually, many GEARS are stationed alongside one or two humans. However, not a single genetically engineered soldier is present. Based off the surveillance, they all seem to be situated in one area.
This strange occurrence sends her mind racing. So, this panic must be related to these organisms. It is highly unlikely for this to be a training exercise gone wrong. That would not require a tremendous amount of security. A non-responsive or rogue soldier would not entail this much of a threat either.
Suddenly, the door behind Kira slides open. The noise makes her hand instinctively dive for her USB and slip it into the pocket of her bag.
"What are you doing here?" the soldier demands, his eyebrows knit in what must be either confusion or anger.
Decisively, she queries back in the most authoritative voice she could muster. "Excuse me, who are you? Get me a commander or someone more qualified. This information is vital." she crosses her arms and tilts her chin to the door to exaggerate her point.
"I apologize, officer. They instructed us to clear all rooms and assess if there are any possible threats."
"Do I look like a threat? Leave now, your superiors will not be pleased with your questioning of authority."
"Right away, ma'am." He salutes before exiting the door. Close call.
Waiting a few seconds before leaving the room, she secures the premises and walks out with all the information tucked into the seam of her bag. This was unusually easy. A bit too easy. Everything is too easy. She can't help but feel suspicious, but shakes off the paranoia before she over thinks things.
Thankfully, the hallway even more crowded than before. So, she easily slips into the sea of people just hoping that there is no target on her back.
It is only later that she realizes, there has always been one.
