Hi everyone, Happy Valentine’s Day! 💗❤️💗❤️💗

I created this animation to celebrate one of my favorite childhood love stories. (Please watch “There She Is!!” to meet the characters! Spoilers ahead❤️)

This film leaves me crying every time I watch it. When I was younger, I only interpreted Doki and Nabi’s relationship as an allusion to interracial relationships. After a decade of discovering my true self, I become overwhelmed with emotion every time I re-watch “There She Is”

While I believe it’s still an allusion to race, I also interpret Doki and Nabi’s relationship as undeniably queer in a society where their love is forbidden. They are publicly shamed, harassed, and physically assaulted by hateful strangers.

“I thought that, if the world won’t change, we would never reach happiness. But she…”

…with the help of their close friends, and despite the violence and hatred thrown their way, they choose to love one another unapologetically. And I love that story so much.
