I'd like to think Joker's intimidated by dante. Well, if not intimidated, he's atleast irritated by him.
I think that dante is, and was proven at times to be, the strongest and most powerful clone. The clone that's power comes close to the joker's level of power, and makes him feel threatened. If developed enough, he could equal or even rival the joker's powers.
That's why he tries to get rid of him several times in Joker's presents, but every time he survives--until the last episode, of course.
What if dante was the shield that kept joker away from the other clones temporarily. What if his presence alone intimidated joker so much that he needed a plan before he attacks. Or an energy that kept him sealed from the other clones.
What if this whole time dante was saving up energy just in case he comes back. He knows dante is going to protect them, that he's able to stop him if it was for the sake of the clones.
Maybe that's why he was asleep under fedors bed in the 9th episode? Maybe he could sense the joker card, and wanted to stay near fedor just incase he appears, surely that beanbag was more comfortable than the floor under the bed <(more of my headcanon, ik they probably just put it there for comedic effect)
Joker couldn't figure out his weak points. For kuromaku, it was 'for the greater good' he'd sacrifice himself and bargain if it was for the sake of everyone else. But not dante, he didnt die in felix's place--didn't take the blame when he was being ridiculed.
He didn't even notice zontik tugging on his clothing and flew away instead. Would he traded his place with zontik if he had seen what happened to him?
He's not idealistic like felix, it's not easy to turn his values around to push him on edge.
He's not 'weak' and lost like zontik.
He doesn't focus on his image like romeo.
He's not stubborn and individualistic like pik.
He gets back up everytime the joker tries to push him down, but why?
Because the clones needed him, needed someone to protect them, he needs to be there for them.
Felix dies even after how much dante tries to warn him, but who knows? Maybe he still has other clones to protect, and he won't make the same mistake he did with felix.
Dante didn't notice zontik, what if he tried to escape so he can save the other clones that hadn't been pushed down to that void.
So joker gave up for a moment, that's why we don't see dante in the romeo episode.
But then he figured it out, how to get rid of dante! Make him watch the other clones dissapear despite his efforts.
'There is nothing you can do, you can't protect them.'
There is still fedya waru and gabriel, but look at their efforts to get fedya's attention. He's never escaping, and there is no reason to hold on, everyone's gone.
Which I see as poetic in a way, dante only disappears after he've lost all hope, since everyone's gone, there is no one left to protect, so he might as well let go. He only dies after he accepts death. Joker only won because dante decided to step back.
