Little Bobby in a Halloween costume
John F Kennedy with friends in Charleston, South Carolina, 1942
"All through the service, Bobby Kennedy stayed right with me," Charles Evers recalled in his memoir. "I'll never forget how hard he tried to console me. I needed every bit of Bobby's help to keep from going crazy with the pain. He could have just come to the funeral, given his sympathies to Myrlie [Medgar Evers' widow] and left. Men less important than Bobby would have done just that, but Bobby wasn't built like that." Robert Kennedy continue to reach out to Evers. "Bobby Kennedy not only urged me to call, day or night - He called Me. That was the difference between Bobby Kennedy and John: John told me to call when I needed him; Bobby didn't wait," Evers recalled. According to Evers, Robert Kennedy called him at least once a week for months after Medgar Evers' death and would take his call at any time, "sunrise or deep in the night, whenever I had the need," he says.
.
Five months later, Evers would rush to Washington to be near Robert Kennedy when the president was assassinated. —Delta Epiphany, Robert F. Kennedy in Mississippi .
