Western yellow pond lily in a high alpine lake that I went camping to. They are also called great yellow pond lily. They are often used by fish to hide from birds and the hot sun, they are also edible, with the seeds being made into an oatmeal by many Native American tribes. Mostly it meant I could no go swimming without getting tangled up with them lol.

Dwarf coneflower native to North American meadows and grasslands, I found this one at a local park.

Western Tiger Swallowtail on a showy milkweed plant. These cool guys can survive through hash winters by freezing or, well, by not;using antifreeze that they create in their blood. Glycerol is what they use to stop from freezing. They can feed on a variety of plants and as caterpillars they feed on cottonwood, aspen, cherry, and others. I found this one on the side of the trail.

Nesting American coot before and after the hatching, taken about a week apart at the same location. These chicks are between one and 6 days old because their orange color has not faded to white. Coots sometimes lay eggs in others nests, so all the chick may not be biologically related to the parent. However, coots are monogamous and mate for life. Their nests as pictured are built on water and sometimes are just floating.

Photos were taken on a 300mm and 200mm lens. Make sure not disturb nesting birds.

Spotted a white faced ibis out in the algae. Looking for some bugs to eat, most likely. The insects we out in swarms today. They also eat small fish and frogs along with cabs. White faced ibis live along the west cost up to southern Oregon on the cost and down Central America, and as live as far east as west Louisiana. Cute birds though. You can also see the little trails they leave in the algae.

The western grebe I watched at my local lake, swimming around and hunting for some fish. The western grebe can be told apart from Clark's Grebe by their white around the eye of Clark and Black of the western. Their red eyes are assumed to help them see under the water as they hunt for food but give them a very stark appearance.

Tipi in the reeds, red flags flap from the tips of the poles. Blue Wyoming sky stretches above. Tipi's are the traditional dwelling of some native peoples of the great plains, being strong enough for large snow pack and big enough for a fire in the center. They were also easy enough to dissemble and pack to follow the migration of bison and other game animals. Tipi being a Lakota and Dakota word.

Male red winged Blackbird I found on my nature bike ride. The female black birds are a dark brown and the red winged blackbird are sexual dimorphism. Really pretty bird in my opinion.
