Me and the Paper Jam Comics Collective are part of the Urban Fictions exhibition at the Holy Biscuit, Newcastle. I’m really proud of the work we all put together so if you’re in the area, come and check it out! It’s up until 31st May.
Copies of Newcastle And That, our latest anthology featuring works from Urban Fictions plus more, are also available at the gallery, Travelling Man and through all the members of PJCC.
i'm trying to get more organised in regards to my Wider Bridge trip comic.
these are some colour thumbs for title cards. i want to use all the colours i'd use in the comic on the front!
top left - i love pomegranates as my trip mates could probably tell from hearing my 'look!! a pomegranate!' chirp every five seconds, because Israel is obviously fairly fond of it as an icon. one day i was exploring and i found a pomegranate tree that was at the end of it's fruiting and i haven't been able to get the image of those cracked open fruits since
top right - probably my favourite, but this is not really my style and it doesn't give you much insight into what the inside's going to look like. all over Israel the juice bars had these fishbowls of carrots in, actual fish bowls except i guess instead of goldfish there was ice. i'm assuming it was to keep the carrots cool before they got turned into juice, but it was a fantastic little thing to see.
bottom left - on the road up to Masada me and a fellow AWBer got left a bit behind, and by the time we caught up we rounded a corner and saw the group at the bottom of the road doing yoga. it was another weird little moment, seeing them stretch up with the Roman Road winding up behind them
bottom right - this is a section of the wall at Masada, the black line symbolises the point at which archaeologists found it and started to build back up. i love the imagery of this, but i come from a community of not-Zionists and while when i hear of Masada, i hear a story that presents a complex discussion point, i'm given to understand that people might see it used and only remember IDF part.
(feedback always appreciated).
I sing in a shape note group and we recorded this song for a rad album that's been produced by the Holy Biscuit.
You can get it here!
MAN OH MAN i've been busy! my time at Bloom is up, there has been a wedding, a death, and a comic launch.
GET SPOOKED!
i'm hella proud to have work in this anthology. Weft is a story that I wrote and is being illustrated by my pal Liz Edwards, and follows what happens when you try to do chores while battling brainghosts. We hope you like it! it features Liz's sister's staircase, which was bought from a NUNNERY.
the incentives for pre-ordering are red hot. i can't believe nobody's gone for Ainsley's top-tier offer yet! GET IN THERE, how often do you get the chance to have a bug named after you.
I was hired to draw this cover for this upcoming The Sleep of Reason anthology. It features buddies like Emily Carroll, Gabby Schulz, and many others, and is also one of the rare indie anthologies that actually pays its contributors (although typing it out now, it is a little depressing that indie anthologies treating their contributors ethically is not just, like, the norm? Anyway, I am very eager and happy to support editors and publishers making good choices like that.)
Soon, y’all.
Although I feel I should mention that, unfortunately, Emily had to bow out due to time constraints. The lineup is still god level, though. You’ll see.
We’re latecomers to the Sleep of Reason anthology - while Katie Goode toils away at the script for Weft, I’m enjoying some low pressure sketching before I have to draw it all ha ha ha this will be awesome.
