I've decided to do another random choices run! Everyone meet my high elf necromancer, Mardon!

I rolled to determine race and class (and subs) this time, and it was like the stars aligned. This is a tav I created some time ago by pushing the randomize button a bunch (mostly, I changed the face model, removed gold "graying," and added piercings), and I loved his look (he even has green and teal heterchromia not visible here), but I didn't know what I was gonna do with him. So I already had him in mind, and then I rolled elf, plus his green hair is perfect for necromancy. (I know the flame sunglasses are not very necromantic, but I like them, and they were already part of the character I had in my head before I started this run lol.)

I rolled for background and got Guild Artisan, so that's interesting. I guess he has a secret artistic skill that I don't know about.

Lastly, I semi-randomized his stats. So he has 10 CON and 12 DEX, which is not ideal. He's a feeble, somewhat charismatic necromancer. I might change it, but I'm seeing if I can make it work.

The real problem is trying not to get too attached to him (too late lol) because random choice runs can end very abruptly 😅

I installed a mod that adds a few necromancy spells that seem pretty balanced. I also have the EA Restored mod, so I'm sure that will add some extra surprises. And of course my 500 other usual mods or whatever lol.

I'm still trying to figure out if/when "Leave" should be a valid option, how to decide the order of things, etc. I went with Tactician, and I'm reloading if I get a TPK in combat. TPK in dialogue will be game over.

I've done most of the grove and have already seen some new things with decisions I've never made before. I'll keep posting updates about how it's going!

Actual thoughts I've had while playing BG3 (Part 5):

Is everybody done being on fire?

I can't decide if "Leave" should be a viable option in a random choices BG3 run. It feels like a valid option in some situations but sort of like a cop out in others.

I also can't decide if I should just choose my own stats (since I randomized class), or if I should stick with the semi-randomized ones I have. Playing as a wizard with 10 CON and 12 DEX is gonna be rough lol.

I finished my Halsin duo run! Here's how it wrapped up.

I did every boss fight, so the city is saved and cleared of villains. I used a mod to let Halsin get kidnapped by Orin for the dramatics of it, but that fight was miserable, and I did not even feel heroic by the end of it lol. Despite saying I was going to switch to Explorer, I think I only did that for part of the Orin fight, Cazador, and Ansur, the rest was Tactician, though sometimes it took reloading.

I actually discovered a new strat for the brain battle. Going invisible Round 1 and just walking around the side to the back, then using a darkness arrow for the stone channeler. Meanwhile, the non-illithid enemies were all the way on the other end looking around where my party first went invisible and wasted their turns dashing once my party become visible. Don't know how it would work on HM, and the mind flayers could still be a problem, especially with lower wisdom party members, but it worked beautifully this time. Got into the portal Round 4(?) with everyone at almost full health.

Other than that, nothing particularly unique about this run. I still don't feel like I know how to play a ranger 😅 Is it just shooting arrows? Because that's all I did. He was doing decent damage, but it didn't feel exciting. I enjoyed having a swarm of moths though, and being able to use them for extra damage or teleportation was handy. They also looked cute in pictures, though I'm bummed I couldn't figure out how to make them show up in dialogue. (My moths are edited because I wanted them less glowy, more real.)

Oh! My tav snuck into the Zhent hideout but then dipped and never went back, and I forgot until I got to Act 3 and went to Jannath's house. Got to attend her art gathering and save some guy's job. I also met a mind flayer hunter I've never met before in a random house in the city.

Mostly I got to hear a bunch of Halsin dialogue/reactions I hadn't heard. And I got to see his romance again, which was very sweet! I also just really listened to his lines and voice acting, because I haven't in a while (I skip a lot of dialogue after playing so many times), and it really is great.

I almost just looked at the dialogue files instead of reloading to see Halsin's responses to other conversation options. Glad I didn't because I would've missed this 😄

My tav had to stab Halsin to save him from mind flayer domination, because taking damage triggers a saving throw to break the domination, so now my tav has the "reeling" condition because of Halsin's armor, and idk how to explain this, but. I love little things like this in the game? How there are so many ways to solve problems, or to counteract things that go wrong, but sometimes also consequences, and it makes even combat and sneaking around and non-story elements feel like they have a story to them sometimes, just one that you are creating yourself.

Apparently there was a recent bug in Project Zomboid that made all the animals female, including things like bulls, and now they've fixed it and some animals that were female have switched to male, so either way you look at it, Zomboid created trans animals. Perfect start to Pride month 😂

I've switched to Explorer for my last few fights because I just want to be done with this playthrough, but going back to Explorer after playing the game as much as I have, including on HM, is wild lol. Almost killed Ansur in one round with just Cone of Cold and four undead arrows. And good news, I finally got the achievement for killing him mid-air 😅

In typical BG3 fashion, my Gortash fight was... interesting. One enemy kept casting Phantasmal Killer on themself (though they were immune to it, so it did nothing). One of them attacked one of Gortash's summoned things. My tav kept getting dominated, but one time he just did nothing on his turn, and the second time he cast Feather Fall, and he didn't even drop his concentration on Spike Growth. At one point, one of them already had Spirit Guardians going, and then just cast it again. Gortash needs to hire better people.

I was in the middle of picking out new armour for Halsin, got distracted when I remembered I had this wolf head cape, wanted to see how it looked in dialogue, forgot Halsin didn't have armour on, and this is certainly a look lol.

I didn't do a very good job of saving the Gondians in the second room of the foundry.

In my defense, this one? Not my fault. He got pushed into the blast radius of a steel watcher.

The one who died because I failed to disarm the motivator in time? He was the only one left, and he was probably gonna die anyway. On the bright side (?), I got dialogue that I don't think I've ever seen.

Well, chin up, at least your daughter is alive. Also, do your friends from the first room not count? I'm not sure they'd appreciate knowing that 🤨

I thought it would be a great and funny plan to give Halsin the Armour of Moonbasking (which increases his HP in wild shape), the Shapeshifter Hat (which gives him one additional wild shape per long rest), and the Amulet of Greater Health (which sets his constitution to 23), so that he would effectively have 549 HP for one fight each long rest, perfect tank!

In practice, not working so well lol. When there are a bunch of enemies and they mostly attack just him with his low/mediocre AC, it doesn't really matter how many wild shapes he has because he doesn't even get to use them all 😅

Anyway, it led to this situation, where Halsin died, Viconia and 15 other Sharrans were still alive, and my tav had to run back into the hallway and create a gauntlet of spikes and fire for the them to run across. Good ol' Spike Growth!

Arcane S1 spoilers

I can't stop thinking about the scene when Jinx lights up the smoke flare. She kept that flare for like seven years. She thought Vi was dead, and still she kept it. Probably because it was the last thing Vi ever gave her and was a memory she didn't want to forget. And then, when she was told that Vi was alive, she actually used it. Almost immediately, as if it were her first thought. Despite how long it had been, despite the fact that their last interaction was Vi calling her a jinx and walking away, she still trusted that Vi would see it and come to her.

The amount of love Vi must've had for her and how much she must've been there for her, for Jinx to have that kind of trust in her 😭

My current run is just Halsin and my ranger tav, so Halsin gets the Markoheshkir because he's the only one really casting spells. And neither of them is great at lockpicking. So Halsin uses his gorgeous, fancy staff to beat doors and chests open, and that's funny to me.
