Rummaging through the fridge had left him thoroughly uninspired. After months of living in the mountains and fending for himself, Kyo was adept at scavenging and cooking, but the kitchens supplies were sparse.

He’d grown complacent since moving in with Shigure, relishing in the meals that Tohru dished out without fully appreciating that he no longer had to prepare them himself.

Turning to her, he tried for a smile.

“We’re going out to eat. My treat.  Then we’re doing grocery shopping on the way back.”

Kyo was surprised to hear the sound of approach. 

His eyes searched out the source of the sound, this was private property, a part of the Sohma estate, and though it wasn’t adequately marked as such, it wasn’t easy for civilians to stumble upon.

Making the assumption the person was lost, he sought them out. He stepped out into the clearing the address the stranger.

“You know you’re trespassing, right?”

When Kyo rounded the corner and spotted the younger boy, his immediate thought was simply abort.

His infamous short fuse was certainly not compatible with Hiro. The younger Sohma liked to talk in circles and get a rise sometimes, at least that was often the perception that Kyo got.

He couldn’t say for certain why Hiro acted the way he did. Among the Sohma family there were few - if any - members who acted in what could be considered a socially acceptable manner at all times. Hatori was perhaps an exception, but even he could be uncomfortably aloof sometimes.

In any case, Kyo really wasn’t in the mood to potentially be spoken down to by a child. But, if he was caught actively avoiding him, it would simply give Hiro more ammunition.

Steeling himself for what he hoped for once would not be a confrontation, he continued walking.
