You know where the fandom disconnect is coming in with Marion? I think people are so used to stories of kids shoved in rooms while their despondent mothers entertain men leading to the kids growing up to be horrible, that they're immediately thinking that's what Jester's childhood was. Which it wasn't.
Unlike most depictions of mothers who are sex workers, Marion never hates jester or blames her for bad things. Marion never treats Jester like a burden. Jesters room is still vibrant and full of life in spite of it being more hidden away. She gets to see nicodranas from her balcony and her love of art is supported. Bluud was her babysitter and Marion encouraged her to take a chosen name if she wanted. Marion is the exact opposite of what you think when you think "mother hides child during sex work".
She's never demonized by Laura, Matt, or Jester. The understanding people are ignoring is that yes it's tragic that Marion hides jester. But also that Marion is aware this was wrong to do and earnestly just wants the best for her child. She's a scared woman who can't step foot outside the Chateau for most of the story. She's not just trapping jester and living it up, jester is living almost the same life as Marion, and while the life works for Marion, Jester is a different person. And Marion has to accept that so she can let jester fly.

I really love that trent had NO IDEA how powerful essek was. like trent was struggling while fighting essek and was actually starting to look scared but he probably assumed this was some random incredibly talented wizard from the dynasty. then he takes essek's helmet off and there's ofc the shock of essek turning against him to take back the beacon but also the shock of truly understanding that essek is not just some wizard. he is the shadowhand who just almost defeated one of the archmages of the dwendalian empire
mercy so bright it burns
