The player’s value is associated with their physical worth which could arguably also be a form of slavery..but that might be too provocative...
Using this gif again to reiterate the concept of self-inflected issues.
Athletes use their platform to promote change and expose inequality, but are often left to stand alone in their fight.
P.S. They won. It was a blowout, and no one acknowledged him!
Instead the response would unfortunately be: ”He should be grateful to play for such a team!” “He’s not even from this country.” “All the money he’s getting should be enough!”
If a POC, such as José Alberto "Albert" Pujols Alcántara of the LA Angels refused to wear the team shirt because it’s made in sweatshops, his outcome would be completely different and less supported.
They sacrifice time, money, and sometimes themselves, to be able to achieve that winning score and recognition.
Athletes often embody the team they are on; it is more than a game, it is life!

“The new uniform is great! I’m proud to be on this team! Let’s play!”
*Sends “favorite player” out to make a statement with the new team shirt* “Get him to distract the crowd with to the hair thing after every question too!”
“We are truly sorry for our actions! Thank-you!” -Team Spokesperson
Suspend him! We’ll report there’s ongoing conversation on what decision will be made, but we’ll bench him!
*BOOM* Team gets hits with public social crisis: “Mike Trout of the LA Angels refuses to wear team uniform; made in sweatshops”

Perspective Piece: Sports & Politics
Race and sports have traditionally been accepted as a politics free zone, but, as sports and politics have increased their public interaction, conversations around protest and social change have become the forefront of most sports related topics, and depending on which perspective you identify with, this could be a good or bad thing. Below, I identified two potential perspectives; the first being top-down and the other bottom-up. Tell me what you think. Enjoy! Share! Comment!
