Big Ideas and Philosophies
Installation
I am also creating an installation in the middle of the Waterloo station, which will be a black box with one entrance, to catch people’s attention; inside of which will be mirrored walls (for achieving eternal effect) and lights hanging from the sealing for recreating a background effect of posters.
One wall will have information of the play and hashtag ‘RJTRIP’ for the social media posts, so people can post pictures on social medias. The music will be played inside of the box as well, so people can again Shazam it and be redirected to the playlist.
Non just a still image
I also created a video that will be played on the digital screens, which contains sound, that is typical techno track.
The reason for those videos being made is that moving image attracts more attention Han the still one, especially if it is placed somewhere where it is rowdy and people are in a rush.
All moving images will be places on the train platforms and bus stops.
As you may noticed, in the corner of a video there is a Shazam symbol, as well as QR code placed on the floor. The reason behind is that as a part of my campaign Globe theatre will collaborate wit Spotify in creating a special “ROMEO+JULIET TRIP” playlist, that will be easily accessed either via QR code or with Shazaming song and being redirected to Spotify.
QR Codes and Shazam stickers will be placed all around the area of Waterloo, as well as Shazam sigh appears on a video. There will also be people giving out those stickers.
Spotify playlist will contain different techno songs, which is one of the most popular electronic music genre. It is also familiar with repetition, which is nicely links to all my videos and images.
WOW Screen
For the ‘WOW Screen’ I created a more simple moving campaign that will just contain the ‘star’ background with typography, and since people will see the posters on the way out from the train station, they will be familiar with it. To attract more attention I created a boomerang video.
Posters
For the main posters, I chose 5 out of all I experimented with. I chose the most blurred and, in my opinion, the most unordinary ones.
All of those posters will be allocated along the underground, e.g. on the escalator paths and on the platforms.
Chosen idea: Route 1&3
I realised that at the end, I still came to the Route 1 and idea about the distortion combining it with my Route 3 idea about the nightlife. So for this project I will be using a combination of nightlife and clubs atmosphere, which is bright neon colors and electronic repetitive music. I will also use a blurred image of a couple to create a more interesting picture, but at the same time relevant for contemporary London.

Besides doing our DA&D course, I am working on my own photography projects. One of them is to destroy the normal perception of the sky during most tense moments such as sunsets and sunrises. For doing that I am using glass prism, and recently I took pictures during really bright orange sunset and the city reflected in it, so I decided to give it a go and try to use those pictures.
I aslo sis a mock-up for the underground.
I personally like how it looks, but I think that my two last ideas not necessarily work together, so I decided to stick with the ‘stars’ background because they, in my opinion, present my idea about the nightlife and clubbing better, than the city images.

After receiving an advise from Derek, I found almost perfect image of a couple on Instagram, and since I still had thoughts about making a video on a rave party, my friend looks alike with a girl, which will make my two pieces relevant to each other.
I also did a mock-up of how these posters would look on the platforms.
During that day we had a tutorials and I was speaking with Steve. We both agreed that image of the couple doesn’t perfectly suits with the background, it is too dark, but if to make it brighter it would be clearly seen that the couple was cropped out of another image. Since my background is really blurry, Steve showed me how to make an object blurred in photoshop, which was really working for my idea; so I started experimenting with it.

Since I really wanted to create a video for my campaign, especially using boomerangs, I took videos of those neon trees, hoverer they have nothing relevant to clubs and nightlife, except being made out of neon tubes, so this idea would not even worked.
I remembered, that a year ago I went to a COSMOS (Cosmos Ilūziju Muzejs) back at home in Latvia, and the most significant thing there was a ‘star room’ as I call it. Back then I took a lot of different videos, so I decided to screenshot shots from it and create a boomerang for my campaign.
I also used it as a background for my posters and experimented with different layers.
When I showed this to Derek, I got an advise to actually use people on the posters, otherwise it won’t make much sense.

So after presenting our 3 Routes in a small groups, I decided to stick with my route 3 because I thought it is the most potential for me to create. I love playing with colours and I already had ideas in my head how I can do video, as well as I think I already created quite strong visual element via my typography. So I am just going to experiment and play around that idea from now on, until I will find something that will work the best.
I accidentally found an installation on the streets that can work for my idea. Installation was made out of neon trees, so I took few boomerang of it and close up pictures.
when I uploaded videos on my laptop, they all opened at the same time and created a repetitive patter, which I quite liked.
I decided to experiment and use this as a background for my posters. Images of the people I found on Instagram.
I also thought of creating a simpler poster that can work on horizontal screens, such as ‘WOW’ screen or long vertical ones.
Route 3
My last route is more focusing on actual night life and underground atmosphere of rave parties and club light. I decided to use kaleidoscope for giving more distracted and ‘rave’ atmosphere, repeating fathers and creating more than one dimensional things, as well as I thought about using really bright neon colours for the overall coloristic of campaign.
I also came up with an inspiration from Gaspar Noé’s movie “Enter the Void” of creating a moving campaign that will be made from Romeo’s point of view and show only Juliet, as well as different rave elements such as lights and techno music.
Route 2
For my second route I decided to make drug theme more obvious by using really strong psychedelic visual language, that was brought up by hippie movement in 1960s. I thought that can be a good way of showing emotions that happens between Romeo and Juliet due to ‘overdosage’ of colours and ‘movements’.
I love the range of colours, however it might be too obvious for people to think about 60s and 70s rather than Contemporary London due to such a strong link with that time and movement.
Route 1
The main idea of my first route is to use Distortion and Neon Signs Typography as the main elements of my campaign. Since I am focus on a contemporary London that is crazy about drugs and night life and is considered, in my opinion, as a ‘lost generation’, I thought that by blurring faces it can be linked to being ‘unconquered’ and ‘lost’.
After completing first examples for that Route I feel that I came up more with horror atmosphere and it does not really links to Romeo and Juliet.
