Hey guys! How’s it going? We are back again with another post. As you all may know, Monday 4th February marked the beginning of Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) 9th season of NYFW: Men’s.
We kicked of this season at New York Men’s Day (NYMD) For those of you who never heard of NYMD, it’s where twelve (12) emerging menswear designers showcase your latest collections for the season. Founded by Erin Hawker, NYMD has become somewhat of an entry point into New York Fashion Week for young American designers. “It’s so, so, so important to support young, emerging talent. This is where global trends come from; this is where eyes from all facets of fashion and lifestyle look to. If no one is supporting these young designers, they wouldn’t be able to afford to showcase their collections” says Erin.
This season one designer stood out among the rest of wide eyed newbies. David Hart a veteran in his own rights, made waves during this seasons showing. While other designers decided to stand out and feature over the top designs and pieces. Hart chose one of minimalism, classic, and traditional designs. Unlike his collection last season which featured nineteen looks, Hart chose to play it safe with a simple collection of five looks.
Hart opted to take the attendees back to where modern menswear was at the forefront of fashion; with a neutral colored suit and shape classic tailoring. Deciding to stick with two colours made the collection more define, which translates well on a retail level. Keeping with the current trend in menswear at the moment, the fit of the suits were more relaxed but still had that formality about them.
This collection was true outside of the norm, to what we are accustomed seeing from Hart. In the past Hart has been known for his outstanding, maximalist collections, featuring bold colours and patterns. This truly shows that Hart is a multifaceted designer, being able to attack any trend and make it his own. Maybe in the future we may even see other color tones feature in the collection.
