Follow-up to ‘one day’.

“Tell me again, Nik: why did you drag me here?”

“I didn’t drag you here, Kol,” Klaus snapped, at his wit’s end between anxiety over his current situation – funny, how attending San Diego Comic-Con after years and years of waiting barely mattered when meeting Caroline occupied the other plate of the scale – and annoyance at his brother. “In fact, I specifically told you not to come.”

“Uh,” Kol trailed the curve of his chin with his left thumb and forefinger, “suspicious.”

Klaus whipped around, all but ready to lash out, only to find Kol with his hands raised between them in the trademark sign of peace.

“Sorry, sorry! You’re nervous about meeting your girlfriend, I get it.”

“She’s not my girlfriend!”

Even among hundreds of people cheering and laughing and talking, Klaus’ shout echoed, earning him quite a few curious stares.

He cleared his throat and repeated in a lower tone, “She’s not my girlfriend.”

Kol arched an unconvinced eyebrow. “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

“I’m not protesting, I’m stating.”

“Oookay. Well, let’s go find not-your-girlfriend, then.”

“Her name is Caroline,” Klaus growled, then deflated, “and I have no idea where she could be.”

“Ask her?”

“How?”

“Don’t you have her phone number?”

“Of course not. She’s someone I only know online.”

Kol’s chuckle almost choked him. “Nik. You crossed the bloody ocean to meet her. I’d say she’s a little bit more than that.”

That time, Klaus didn’t bother to correct his brother, as the latter wasn’t actually wrong. “Still no number. She… doesn’t even know I’m here.”

“Whaaaaat?”

Another round of curious stares.

Klaus pinched the bridge of his nose, exasperated. “Will you keep it down, Kol?”

“The first scream was yours!” Kol rebutted with an accusing finger.

“This is it. I’ve had enough. We’re going separate ways.”

Kol’s lips curved into a lopsided smirk. “Right. You probably want some privacy with your girlfriend.”

“For the last time, Kol, Caroline is not my girl—”

“Klaus?”

Later I will make a long ass post about how grateful and happy I am with this beautiful fandom, this was my first ever event and I can not be more happy with the result. Prompt: Candied yams

           “What do yams have to do with stripping?” It was a question Caroline had asked herself repeatedly ever since she’d agreed to Bonnie’s stripper version of a canned food drive.

           “It’s not just yams, Caroline. You’re going to be candied yams. Way fancier,” Bonnie quipped, helping Caroline into a rhinestone-studded corset screen printed with the popular side dish. “And you know I wouldn’t ask you to do this, but the foodbank is counting on us and Elena backed out at the last minute to deal with Damon’s…exhaustion.”

           Caroline snorted, reminding herself to check in with Stefan to see how much Damon’s latest episode of exhaustion was potentially going to cost their company. Despite being a wildly successful burlesque franchise in the south, it didn’t mean she shouldn’t worry about the slimy marketing president’s effect on their shares.

           Hopefully the rest of the board wouldn’t find out about Damon’s latest fuckup until after Caroline figured out the right spin.

           Too late. “What’s this about the elder Salvatore and some nonsense with a shattered plate-glass window of a car dealership and a stolen Shetland?”

Dances with Werewitches UPDATE

When Kol gets himself into trouble, Klaus has no choice but to reach out to the very same girl he’s been obsessing over for years. Little does he know that her plan to seduce him is already well underway. Klaroline smutty comedy written for Klaroline Fall Bingo, 2020. Prompt for this chapter: “The Reaping.”

Chapter Three - The Life and Death of Caroline Forbes

Kol scooted closer, finally taking Davina’s tiny palm in his larger one. She looked down at their intertwined fingers and bit back a gulp. There was only one way to fix this. “Surely, there must be something you can do, darling.”

The cursed creature looked at the crying witch and felt her heart constrict. She knew that pain. She turned to Kol, bracing herself. “There is, but you won’t like it.”

Klaus’ voice was a menacing growl as he held Caroline in his arms while she fell apart. “I don’t give a damn what my brother doesn’t like. If there’s something you can do, then bloody well get on with it!”

“Watch yourself, brother,” Kol snarled, flashing his vampire eyes.

“Remember who is the hybrid here,” Klaus growled, the low rumble in his chest vibrating through the sniffling blonde. “I could tear you both limb from undead limb. I don’t care what it is; just FIX IT!”

“Try it and I swear I will find a dagger that works on you!” Kol shouted angrily, getting to his feet and clenching his fists.

“Shut up!” Caroline sat up and pulled away from Klaus, crossing her arms over her chest. Both men were stunned into silence. Her emotions were all heightened and she suddenly felt a burst of anger shoot through her. “Would you both just quit with the macho crap and let the girl talk?” Turning to Davina, she lowered her voice. “What can you do?” The girl with the raven hair and piercing blue eyes sighed, wrapping her arms around her knees. She looked so young. Caroline speculated that she probably wasn’t more than sixteen when she died. When she was murdered by her own people. “Please, Davina. Don’t make me live like this.” A tear rolled down her cheek. She’d never felt so disconnected in her life, and the emotions were overwhelming wildfire threatening to swallow her whole.

Davina looked up at her and felt that pain. She remembered vividly when she’d woken up alone on the Other Side with no magic. She didn’t want to say goodbye again, but she couldn’t condemn another innocent girl to her fate. She braced herself, knowing everyone would go along with the plan.

           Blood spread across the floorboards of her classroom as she kept a hand clapped to her mouth, trying to quiet her breathing. Mercifully, Caroline had dismissed her students early that day; with harvest time nearly upon them, there was much work to do in the fields. She was fiercely protective of her children, and despite her being ‘fresh from the carriage’, she openly challenged the surly councilmen who seemingly turned a blind eye to the disappearances. The sickly went first — it wasn’t unusual in that community for one who sensed the end to suddenly feel the urge to commune with the forest that bordered Mystic Falls.

AU/AH. Klaus and Caroline don’t know each other as well as they would like. Yet.

“Turn left! Turn left!”

Surrounded by falling debris and with their enemies hot on her heels, the blonde eagerly followed the accented instructions and took the corner in a sprint.

Wrong move.

“My left!” Klaus screeched.

Caroline ground her teeth together in order to rein in the waterfall of insults threatening to break through. “That would have been nice to know before I were at a dead-end with an army behind me.”

“Apologies, love, for making one single mistake after the play I’ve just pulled off to save your arse!”

“Right. That. Did you have to upset the goblins?”

“It saved you from becoming an ogre’s tea break, didn’t it?”

“Just in time to become goblin dinner, it seems!”

Despite the dour situation, Klaus found himself chuckling. “You are so dramatic.”

Caroline scoffed around a smile. “Oh, like you’re one to talk!”

“That’s why we make such a great team, love.”

Caroline rolled her eyes but didn’t deny his statement.

She hit ‘pause’ on her controller.

           Why did she do this to herself? Caroline stabbed the makeup brush into the foundation palette a bit harder than necessary, watching a couple of the extras giggle and fawn all over Klaus. Despite his worldwide fame and countless industry accolades, he’d somehow remained the same generous, down-to-earth man he’d been when she first met him two decades ago. Not that he’d remember her. She’d made sure of that.

           One of her fangs dug into the tip of her tongue, pricking it just enough to sate her monster. Monsters shouldn’t have regrets. What they’d had together should’ve been a brief fling, but instead feelings happened, and she ended up compelling him to forget. It had been for the best — he was close with his siblings and he desperately wanted to be famous — that combination spelled disaster for her kind.

           But Caroline couldn’t stay away. Almost as though she was doing penance, every few years, she’d find her way onto the makeup team for one of his movies, feeling the need to check up on him. However, she hid behind a wall of cheerful professionalism, making sure not to let him get close again. Her heart could only take so much.
